Après deux EP sortis en 2016 et 2018 et un album en 2020, les français de Sins Of Shadows sont de retour en ce début d’année avec leur deuxième album intitulé Imperium. L’album sera disponible le 16 janvier prochain.

L’album commence avec des riffs de guitare de grande qualité portés par Nicolas Jacon. Sur cette nouvelle sortie c’est Eric Castiglia qui se charge du chant, et c’est clairement un très bon choix tant sa voix colle aux compositions du groupe. On est face ici à un heavy métal de très bonne qualité qui alterne entre des influences proches des classiques du genre er d’autres plus proches de groupes comme Symphony X. Le deuxième titre de l’album a été dévoilé par le groupe il y a quelques temps, et le mieux est de vous laisser le découvrir par vous même:
La section rythmique de cet album est redoutable d’efficacité, grâce aux talents combinés de Sébastien Normand à la basse et de Rodolphe Plachesi à la batterie. Le thème principal des paroles de cet album est l’imperium de Spinoza. Dans ses textes Spinoza en distingue 3 types: la monarchie, l’aristocratie et la démocratie et cet album cherche à illustrer ce propos dans les compositions via le morceau titre mais aussi des titres comme « This Is War » par exemple.
Cet album est l’occasion pour le trio d’inviter deux autres voix en plus d’Eric: tout d’abord la voix de Vedbolina sur les titres « Tears Of Shadows » et « My Empire » puis celle de Nicolas Cuvilly de Protogonos également sur « My Empire ». Dans les deux cas, les voix viennent parfaitement rejoindre celle du chanteur principal. Tout au long de l’album on se laisse porter par des compositions variées mais toujours impactantes où les soli de guitare sont nombreux. On sent que le trio cherche à transformer l’essai après un premier album où certains des titres étaient des refontes de démos plus anciennes. On a là leur premier album totalement composé d’inédit et on sent que on a passé un cap dans la composition.
Le petit bémol que j’ajouterai est que certains des titres semblent être composés sur le même moule, mais ça ne gêne en rien l’expérience d’écoute de cet album. Le dernier titre « The Sands Of Time » vient clôturer cet album avec encore une fois de belles performances de chaque musicien impliqué dans le projet.
Sins Of Shadows signent avec Imperium un album de qualité qui n’aura aucun mal à plaire aux fans de heavy métal. On peut saluer le travail de toutes les personnes ayant participé à cette nouvelle sortie qui laisse présager un bel avenir sur scène au groupe. Amateurs du genre n’hésitez pas à aller découvrir ce groupe très prometteur.

After two EPs released in 2016 and 2018 and an album released in 2020, French band Sins Of Shadows are back at the beginning of this year with their second album entitled Imperium. The album will be available on January 16th.
The album starts with great quality guitar riffs carried by Nicolas Jacon. On this release it is Eric Castiglia who takes care of the singing, and it is clearly a very good choice so much his voice sticks to the compositions of the band. We are facing here a heavy metal of very good quality which alternates between influences close to the classics of the genre and others closer to bands like Symphony X. The second track of the album has been unveiled by the band some time ago, and the best is to let you discover it by yourself (video available up in the french part).
The rhythm section of this album is very efficient, thanks to the combined talents of Sebastien Normand on bass and Rodolphe Plachesi on drums. The main theme of the lyrics of this release is the imperium of Spinoza. In his texts Spinoza distinguishes 3 types: monarchy, aristocracy and democracy and this album tries to illustrate this in the compositions via the title track but also tracks like « This Is War » for example. This album is the occasion for the trio to invite two other voices in addition to Eric: first the voice of Vedbolina on the titles « Tears Of Shadows » and « My Empire » and then the voice of Nicolas Cuvilly of Protogonos also on « My Empire ». In both cases the voices come perfectly to join that of the main singer.
Throughout the album, we let ourselves be carried by varied compositions but always impacting where the guitar soli are numerous. We feel that the trio tries to transform the test after a first album where some of the titles were remakes of older demos. We have here their first album totally composed of unpublished and we feel that we passed a course in the composition.
The small drawback that I will add is that some of the tracks seem to be composed on the same mold, but it does not hinder the listening experience of this album. The last track « The Sands Of Time » closes this album with once again great performances from each musician involved in the project.
Sins Of Shadows sign with Imperium a quality album that will have no trouble pleasing heavy metal fans. We can salute the work of all the people who participated in this new release which suggests a bright future on stage for the group. Fans of the genre do not hesitate to discover this very promising band.
