Quatre ans après la claque When I Have Fears, les irlandais de The Murder Capital sont de retour avec leur deuxième album. Intitulé Gigi’s Recovery, il est disponible dès maintenant via Human Seasons Records.

L’intro douce accompagnée de la voix reconnaissable entre mille de James McGovern nous plonge dans l’univers de ce nouvel album. Le premier frappait par l’impression d’avoir dans les oreilles des poèmes chantés. Et « Crying » confirme que cet album sera du même acabit. Les irlandais maîtrises leur post-punk à merveille, les parties de guitare de Damien Tuit et Cathal Roper se mêlent parfaitement au chant de James, en allant vers des sons distordus du plus bel effet.

Le morceau « Return My Head » est clairement plus sur le format d’une chanson classique mais fonctionne lui aussi à merveille avec le rythme de la batterie de Diarmuid Brennan qui donne clairement envie de bouger dans son salon. Chaque titre est une nouvelle porte d’entrée dans le monde de The Murder Capital, et on y entre aisément vu le niveau des compositions proposées ici.

« The Stars Will Leave Their Stage » est une pierre angulaire de cet album, où chacun des musiciens s’illustre pleinement en nous proposant une composition hypnotique qui reste en tête dès la première écoute. La noirceur lumineuse de ce titre est un pur bonheur et gagne pour le moment le titre de morceau le plus impressionnant de cette nouvelle sortie.

Après le très doux « Belonging », qui donne toute la place à James pour s’exprimer accompagné seulement d’un son de claviers, on repart de plus belle avec « The Lie Becomes The Self » où la basse de Gabriel Paschal Blake se fait très présente et nous emporte complètement avec un son encore une fois totalement hypnotisant.

Les deux titres suivants continuent à nous enchanter totalement. On est face à un album, qui même s’il est différent du premier, confirme le statut de The Murder Capital comme groupe majeur de la scène post-punk actuelle. Nous arrivons ensuite au titre éponyme qui est encore une très belle illustration de la puissance d’écriture des morceaux. On ne se lasse pas de se repasser ces compositions fortes qui touchent au cœur dès la première seconde.

Le dernier titre tout en renvoyant à l’intro de cet album, est parfait pour clôturer cet album. Encore une fois on sent que chaque membre de la formation irlandaise a mis tout son talent au service du morceau. Une pure merveille!

Ce nouvel album de The Murder Capital confirme tout le bien qu’on pensait du groupe. Gigi’s Recovery est encore une montée en puissance par rapport au premier album. On sent que le travail a été différent sur celui-ci, mais le groupe livre une nouvel fois un album inoubliable qu’on a hâte de découvrir en live.

Four years after the smash hit When I Have Fears, Irish band The Murder Capital are back with their second album. Entitled Gigi’s Recovery, it is available now via Human Seasons Records.

The soft intro accompanied by James McGovern‘s recognisable voice plunges us into the universe of this new album. The first one was striking by the impression of having sung poems in our ears. And « Crying » confirms that this album will be of the same kind. The Irish have mastered their post-punk to perfection, Damien Tuit and Cathal Roper‘s guitar parts blend perfectly with James‘ vocals, going towards distorted sounds of the most beautiful effect.

The track « Return My Head » is clearly more in the format of a classic song but also works wonderfully with Diarmuid Brennan‘s drumming that clearly makes you want to move around your living room. Each track is a new gateway into the world of The Murder Capital, and it’s easy to get in given the level of songwriting showcased here.

« The Stars Will Leave Their Stage » is a cornerstone of this album, where each of the musicians fully illustrates themselves by offering us a hypnotic composition that stays in our heads from the very first listen. The luminous darkness of this track is pure bliss and earns the title of the most impressive track on this new release for the moment.

After the very soft « Belonging », which gives James all the space to express himself accompanied only by a sound of keyboards, we start again with « The Lie Becomes The Self » where Gabriel Paschal Blake‘s bass becomes very present and completely carries us away with a sound that is once again totally hypnotising.

The next two tracks continue to totally enchant us. This is an album that, even if it is different from the first one, confirms the status of The Murder Capital as a major band of the current post-punk scene. We then come to the eponymous track which is another beautiful illustration of the power of the songs’ writing. We never tire of replaying these strong compositions that touch our hearts from the very first second.

The last track, while referring to the intro of this album, is perfect to close this album. Once again, we feel that each member of the Irish band has put all his talent at the service of the track. A pure wonder!

This new album from The Murder Capital confirms all the good things we thought about the band. Gigi’s Recovery is still a step up from the first album. You can feel that the work was different on this one, but the band once again delivers an unforgettable album that we can’t wait to discover live.
