Après un premier album en 2019, la chanteuse/guitariste rock française Laura Cox revient en cette année avec son deuxième album. Intitulé Head Above Water, il est disponible via Verycords et earMusic.

Dès le morceau éponyme, Laura Cox revient nous montrer tout son talent avec des morceaux bien rock avec un fort penchant blues. Chacune des compositions laisse toute la place à sa voix chaude qui nous emporte dès les premières notes. Bien évidemment, sa guitare est là aussi pour enchanter nos oreilles avec des notes typiques du blues rock américain. Les musiciens l’accompagnant sur cette sortie apportent tous un vrai savoir faire derrière leurs instruments respectifs.

On alterne continuellement dans cet album entre morceaux pleinement rock, d’autres blues et même certains allant chercher vers le bluegrass, avec un banjo qui font leur apparition sur le titre  « Seaside ». Tout le talent de composition de Laura transpire dans chaque note dans ce deuxième album. Difficile de ne pas se laisser porter par la force de ce qu’elle nous propose. On comprend aisément son succès aussi bien en France, qu’à l’étranger, tant elle est dans un rock qui saura résonner avec ce que les fans des plus grands du genre apprécient. Le morceau « Fever » dans la dernière partie de l’album est une très belle représentation de tout ce qu’elle a pu nous proposer tout au long de l’écoute de Head Above Water.

Les morceaux « Swing It Out » et « Glassy Days » viennent parfaitement clôturer l’album avec la représentation des deux faces de cet album, une face énergique qui donne envie de bouger la tête et une autre plus mélancolique et douce. Dans les deux cas, une fois encore Laura Cox prouve qu’elle est aussi bonne compositrice qu’interprète.

Si vous ne connaissez pas Laura Cox, on vous invite à plonger dans tête la première (tout en la gardant hors de l’eau) dans Head Above Water. Cet album est une très belle illustration de tout ce que la chanteuse peut nous proposer. On passe aisément par plusieurs styles tout au long de l’écoute sans jamais se perdre, ce qui est la force des grands albums. Une très belle réussite! After a debut album in 2019, French rock singer/guitarist Laura Cox returns this year with her second album. Entitled Head Above Water, it is available via Verycords and earMusic. 

From the eponymous track onwards, Laura Cox comes back to show us all her talent with some very rocking tracks with a strong blues leaning. Each of the compositions leaves room for her warm voice, which carries us away from the first notes. Of course, her guitar is also there to enchant our ears with typical American blues rock notes. The musicians accompanying her on this release all bring a real know-how behind their respective instruments.

The album alternates continuously between full rock, blues and even bluegrass tracks, with a banjo making an appearance on the track « Seaside ». Laura’s songwriting talent shines through in every note on this second album. It’s hard not to be carried away by the strength of what she offers us. It is easy to understand her success in France and abroad, as she is in a rock style that will resonate with the fans of the greatest of the genre. The track « Fever » in the last part of the album is a very nice representation of all that she has been able to offer us throughout the listening of Head Above Water.

The tracks « Swing It Out » and « Glassy Days » are the perfect end to the album, representing the two sides of the album, an energetic side that makes you want to shake your head and a more melancholic and gentle side. In both cases, Laura Cox proves once again that she is as good a songwriter as she is a performer.
