Les anglais de Hotel Lux arrivent en cette fin janvier avec leur tant attendu premier album! Intitulé Hands Across The Creek, il sera disponible le 27 janvier prochain via The State51 Conspiracy. L’Angleterre, terre des grand groupes de rock, vas t’elle nous faire découvrir un nouveau futur grand nom de cette scène toujours de grande qualité?.

Le premier morceau, « Old Timer », montre d’entrée que le groupe n’est pas là pour se présenter mais pour marquer les auditeurs. Lewis Duffin a une voix bien à lui, qu’on va apprendre à adopter tout au long de l’écoute. Musicalement, on est sur un titre entre pop et punk du plus bel effet qui fonctionne dès la première écoute. Sur les titres suivants Sam Coburn et Max Oliver (guitares) nous proposent des riffs qui vous feront danser chez vous. Les rythmiques à la fois lentes et énergiques à la fois laissent les paroles nous marquer par leur sous texte politique et social.
Viens ensuite le single « National Team », chantée par Cameron Sims qui avec un flegme typiquement anglais vient nous parler des écarts entre ce que la jeunesse peut ressentir et les joueurs du même âge dans l’équipe nationale (de foot, on est en Angleterre). Sur le titre suivant Cameron (basse) et Craig Macvicar (batterie) forment un duo très efficace sur un morceau toujours aussi encré dans la réalité sociale anglaise. On sent que les musiciens veulent transmettre un message fort sur les différences qu’il peut y avoir dans les différentes classes sociales des sociétés actuelles et leurs dérives.
Arrivé à la deuxième de cet album, le voix de Sam vient nous cueillir « Morning After Mourning ». Le morceau « An Ideal For Living » poursuit sur cette veine plus calme avec des guitares acoustiques qui accompagnent le retour de paroles très personnelles et fortes.
On en vient à l’autre single de cet album, « Point Of View » qu’on vous laisse découvrir avant de poursuivre avec les deux derniers morceaux de cet album.
Chacun des deux titres de fin d’album apportent chacun un dernier aperçu de toutes les sonorités que le groupe peut proposer. « Easy Being Lazy » est un morceau doux porté par le une voix douce différente de celle de Lewis. Et enfin, « Solidarity Song » vient nous proposer un dernier morceau toujours à cheval entre rock et pop, dans la pure tradition anglaise, qui donne lui aussi envie de danser encore et encore.
Hands Across The Creek est une belle première sortie pour Hotel Lux! Leur musique est définitivement marqué par les grands noms du post punk anglais venus avant eux, mais le groupe propose son propre son qui prendre pour sûr une dimension encore plus grande en live. L’ensemble des membres de la formation anglaise réussissent avec ce premier album à nous donner envie d’en voir plus et c’est ce qu’on espère faire rapidement lors de leurs prochains passages en France. Si vous êtes fans de la musique post punk anglaise, allez vite écouter l’album d’Hotel Lux dès sa sortie!

The English band Hotel Lux is coming at the end of January with their long awaited first album! Entitled Hands Across The Creek, it will be available on January 27th via The State51 Conspiracy. England, land of great rock bands, will we discover a new great name of this always great scene?
The first track, « Old Timer », shows from the start that the band is not here to introduce itself but to make a mark on the listeners. Lewis Duffin has a voice of his own, which we will learn to adopt throughout the listening. Musically, we are on a track between pop and punk of the most beautiful effect which works from the first listening. On the following tracks Sam Coburn and Max Oliver (guitars) offer us riffs that will make you dance at home. The slow yet energetic rhythms let the lyrics leave their mark with their political and social subtext.
Then comes the single « National Team », sang by Cameron Simms, which with typical English phlegm talks about the gap between what young people can feel and the players of the same age in the national team (football team, this is England). On the next track Cameron (bass) and Craig Macvicar (drums) form a very effective duo on a track still as much rooted in English social reality. We feel that the musicians want to convey a strong message about the differences that can exist in the different social classes of today’s societies and their drifts
On the second track of this album, Sam‘s voice comes to pick us up on « Morning After Mourning ». The track « An Ideal For Living » continues in this calmer vein with acoustic guitars that accompany the return of very personal and strong lyrics.
We come to the other single of this album, « Point Of View » which we let you discover before continuing with the last two tracks of this album.
Each of the two closing tracks each provide a final glimpse of all the sounds the band can offer. « Easy Being Lazy » is a gentle track with a different soft voice from Lewis. And finally, « Solidarity Song » is a final track that still straddles the line between rock and pop, in the pure English tradition, that also makes you want to dance again and again.
Hands Across The Creek is a strong first release for Hotel Lux! Their music is definitely marked by the big names of English post punk that came before them, but the band offers its own sound that will certainly take on an even greater dimension live. All the members of the English band succeed with this first album to make us want to see more and that’s what we hope to do quickly during their next shows in France.
