Embarquons dans l’univers doux de Madlen Keys au travers de 8 nouveaux morceaux solaires et pop. En effet, leur nouvel album intitulé Event Horizon sortira ce vendredi 10 février en indépendant, et nous propose dans un grand bol d’air frais à la croisée de la pop, du rock, sous couvert de sonorité indie toujours aussi chaude pour le coeur.

Dès les premières notes de « The Maze », la machine groove est lancé. Caroline Calen, dévoile ses compositions sous une voix rafraichissante et pleine de joie. Le morceau est efficace et très lumineux. Le son est très clair, mais les thématiques abordées peuvent être quand à elles très sombres. Le morceau « Breathe » en est le parfait exemple : titre sur l’emprisonnement mental subi par les victimes de relation abusives et violence conjugales, on ressent fortement l’intensité du morceau lors de ces refrains éclatants et alliant le talent de l’ensemble des musiciens de ce quatuor. Le morceau est fort et le clip nous marque encore plus. La basse de Gregoire Lozach vient faire vibrer notre coeur sur « Flaming Tree » et le titre s’offre une superbe partie instrumentale reprenant un solo de guitare très rock. Qui a dit que l’indie rock était mou ?

Madlen Keys ose et expérimente. Ils s’offrent la venue de Julian Stahl et sa sitar sur « Keep A Secret » qui nous embarquent vers la musique traditionelle indienne. Caroline, à la composition, ne nous laisse aucun répit et souhaite totalement étonné l’auditeur. On dérive donc d’une sitar vers des sonorités jazz très prononcé sur « The Stream », ou encore des percussions dignes d’une cérémonie nordique sur le très beau titre « Memories Of My Friends ». L’album se concluera tout en calme au travers d’un titre acoustique chanté en Français mais néanmoins fort puisqu’il s’agit d’un hommage aux racines corses de Caroline.

Madlen Keys proposent un album plein d’influences et de sonorités venant du monde entier pour ré-inventer le classique « indie-rock ». L’album Event Horizon est fort de part sa composition variée, son enregistrement en live et s’écoute avec douceur.

From the first notes of « The Maze », the groove machine is launched. Caroline Calen, unveils her compositions under a refreshing and joyful voice. The piece is effective and very bright. The sound is very clear, but the themes addressed can be very dark. The track « Breathe » is the perfect example: title on the mental imprisonment undergone by the victims of abusive relationships and conjugal violence, we feel strongly the intensity of the track during these bright refrains and combining the talent of all the musicians of this quartet. The piece is strong and the clip marks us even more. The bass of Gregoire Lozach comes to make vibrate our heart on « Flaming Tree » and the title offers itself a superb instrumental part taking back a very rock guitar solo. Who said that indie rock was soft?

Madlen Keys dares and experiments. They offer the arrival of Julian Stahl and his sitar on « Keep A Secret » which takes us to traditional Indian music. Caroline, at the composition, doesn’t leave us any respite and wishes to totally astonish the listener. We drift from a sitar to very pronounced jazz sounds on « The Stream », or percussions worthy of a Nordic ceremony on the very beautiful title « Memories Of My Friends ». The album concludes with a quiet acoustic track sung in French but nevertheless strong as it is a tribute to Caroline’s Corsican roots.

Madlen Keys offer an album full of influences and sounds from around the world to reinvent the classic « indie-rock ». The album Event Horizon is strong in its varied composition, live recording and is a smooth listen.
