Les anglais de Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs sont de retour! J’attendais avec impatience leur nouvel album après le coup de coeur en live au Motocultor 2022, et le voilà enfin! Ce quatrième album de la formation de Newcastle intitulé Land Of Sleeper, sera disponible via Rocket Recordings le 17 février prochain.

Les guitares de Adam Ian Sykes et Sam Grant nous accueillent avec leur son fuzz incroyable avant que la voix de Matt Baty vienne rejoindre la partie. D’entrée de jeu le son stoner/doom des anglais est bel et bien présent et on se laisse transporter par le bien nommé « Ultimate Hammer ».

Ewan Mackenzie (de retour derrière la batterie) et John-Michael Hedley (basse), quant à eux, nous envoient des rythmiques qui nous rappellent les premiers albums de Black Sabbath. Les morceux sont lourds, puissants, comme comme pour nous représenter un monde qui plongerait dans le chaos sans pouvoir rien y faire. Mais la lumière est toujours présente quelque part, même si la base des morceaux est sombre. Les riffs sont clairement implacables, cela donne très envie de voir ce que ces nouveaux titres vont donner lors des prochains concerts de la formation.
Sur le titre « The Weatherman », le groupe fait appel à Kate Smith de Bonnacons Of Doom pour poser sa voix sur un titre quasi shamanique. Las voix de Kate et Matt se mêlent parfaitement et donnent à ce titre une vraie forme émotionnelle. Sur ce titre, clairement mémorable, des chœurs sont présents, avec entre autre la présence de Richard Dawson et Sally Pilikington. On est vraiment là face à un des titres majeurs des anglais et je vous invite à vous laisser transporter par cette pièce magistrale.
Vient ensuite le morceau le plus court de cet album, comme une réponse énergique au titre précédent. On est sur quelque chose de toujours stoner mais beaucoup moins doom dans la composition. Une autre vraie réussite de cet album est la variété des compositions et leurs enchainement parfaitement choisi.
Les titres suivants alternent entre énergie et fuzz purs et un retour à quelque chose de plus lent avec le titre « Atlas Stone ». Dans les deux cas, le groupe anglais frappe fort avec deux nouvelles compositions mémorables qu’on ne se lasse pas d’écouter.
Et on arrivé déjà à la clôture de cet album, avec le morceau « Ball Lightning ». Dans celui-ci, c’est la chanteuse folk Cath Tyler qui vient ajouter sa voix à celle de Matt. Encore une fois la variété des riffs et des rythmiques est folle, et le mélange des chants très hard rock et folk passe à merveille. On à, là encore, un titre impressionnant de maîtrise qui vient parfaitement terminer cet album.
Avec Land Of Sleeper, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs continuent de prouver leur place de choix dans la scène hard rock/doom/stoner anglaise. Chaque titre de cet album permet aux musiciens de monter toute l’étendue de leur talent et de nous faire voyager dans un univers sombre et décadent tout en nous laissant un espoir de nous en sortir. Une vraie réussite!

The English band Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs are back! I’ve been waiting impatiently for their new album after the great live show at Motocultor 2022, and here it is at last! This fourth album from the Newcastle band, entitled Land Of Sleeper, will be available via Rocket Recordings on February 17th.

As for Ewan Mackenzie (back behind the drums) and John-Michael Hedley (bass), they send us rhythms that remind us of the first Black Sabbath albums. The pieces are heavy, powerful, as if to represent a world plunging into chaos without being able to do anything about it. But the light is always present somewhere, even if the base of the songs is dark. The riffs are clearly relentless, and it makes you want to see what these new tracks will sound like at the band’s next concerts.
On the track « The Weatherman », the band calls upon Kate Smith of Bonnacons Of Doom to lend her voice to an almost shamanic track. Kate and Matt‘s voices blend perfectly and give this track a real emotional shape. On this track, clearly memorable, choirs are present, with among others the presence of Richard Dawson and Sally Pilikington. This is truly one of the major tracks or the English band and I invite you to let yourself be transported by this masterful piece.
Then comes the shortest track of the album, like an energetic answer to the previous one. We are still on something stoner but much less doom in the composition. Another real success of this album is the variety of the compositions and their perfectly chosen sequence.
The following tracks alternate between pure energy and fuzz and a return to something slower with the track « Atlas Stone ». In both cases, the English band hits hard with two new memorable compositions that one never tires of listening to.
And we’ve already arrived at the closing of this album, with the track « Ball Lightning ». In this one, folk singer Cath Tyler adds her voice to Matt‘s. Once again, the variety of riffs and rhythms is insane, and the mix of hard rock and folk vocals is wonderful. Again, this is an impressive track, that perfectly finishes this album.
With Land Of Sleeper, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs continue to prove their place in the English hard rock/doom/stoner scene. Each track on this album allows the musicians to show the full extent of their talent and to take us on a journey into a dark and decadent universe while leaving us with a hope of escape. A real success!
