Fin 2020, je découvrais Jirfiya avec leur album Still Wating en ayant un réel coup de cœur pour la formation française. Cette année le groupe revient avec un nouvel album intitulé W. Cette nouvelle sortie est un album concept autour de figures féminines fortes.

L’album démarre avec une belle intro de batterie par Nicolas Dumant, rapidement rejoint par Jérôme Thellier à la basse et à la guitare et Sami Kharrat à la guitare. Ensuite les voix de Jérôme Thellier et Ingrid Denis viennent se mêler entre growls d’un côté et chant clair de l’autre. Le titre est une décharge d’énergie qui sait se faire plus douce avec la présence d’un violon et d’un violoncelle puis d’une trompette très jazzy qui viennent ensuite se mêler aux autres instruments. Un retour en fanfare pour le groupe français!
Le titre suivant montre que Ingrid peut partir vers une voix plus sombre mais toujours aussi puissante. Fans de prog vous serez ravis des changements de rythmiques omniprésents dans les morceaux de la formation. On sent clairement que chaque musicien est au top de sa forme et veux nous enchanter avec des parties bien techniques, sans jamais être redondantes. Sur « Dark Storms » et « The Path Of Hate » le violon de Coline Verger et le violoncelle de Quentin Fauré sont de retour, avec toujours cette parfaite harmonisation de leurs instruments dans des compositions alternant toujours entre pur métal et parties plus calmes inspirées par le jazz.
Les deux morceaux qui suivent continuent de nous confirmer le talent de Jirfiya pour écrire des titres marquants qu’on à instantanément hâte d’écouter en live! Sur « An Endless Journey », Jules Jassef est de retour à la trompette pour un solo de grande qualité en début de morceau puis pour plusieurs apparitions tout au long du morceau. Arrive ensuite le single de cet album, « The Girl With The Perfect Face » qu’on vous laisse découvrir.
Le dernier titre vient parfaitement clôturer cet album avec encore une fois un morceau prog métal de grande qualité qui laisse chaque membre du groupe exprimer tout son talent.
Avec W, Jirfiya frappe très fort. Ce deuxième album vient prendre la suite du premier album avec brio en poussant les curseurs encore plus loin. Cet album saura plaire aux fans de prog métal mais est clairement ouvert à un public beaucoup plus large. N’hésitez pas une seconde foncez l’écouter dès sa sortie!

At the end of 2020, I discovered Jirfiya with their album Still Wating and the French band became a firm favorite. This year the band is back with a new album entitled W. This new release is a concept album around strong female figures.
The album starts with a nice drum intro by Nicolas Dumant, quickly joined by Jérôme Thellier on bass and guitar and Sami Kharrat on guitar. Then the voices of Jérôme Thellier and Ingrid Denis come together between growls on one side and clear vocals on the other. The title is a discharge of energy that knows how to be softer with the presence of a violin and a cello then a very jazzy trumpet that come to mix with the other instruments. A great comeback for the French band!
The next track shows that Ingrid can go for a darker but still powerful voice. Fans of prog will be delighted by the omnipresent rhythmic changes in the band’s songs. It is clear that each musician is at the top of his game and wants to enchant us with technical parts, without ever being redundant. On « Dark Storms » and « The Path Of Hate », Coline Verger‘s violin and Quentin Fauré‘s cello are back, with always this perfect harmonization of their instruments in compositions alternating between pure metal and calmer parts inspired by jazz.
Next two tracks continue to confirm Jirfiya‘s talent for writing standout tracks that we instantly look forward to hearing live! On « An Endless Journey », Jules Jassef is back on trumpet for a great solo at the beginning of the track and then for several appearances throughout the song. Then comes the single from this album, « The Girl With The Perfect Face », which we let you discover.
The last track closes the album perfectly with yet another high quality prog metal track that lets each band member express their talent.
With W, Jirfiya hits very hard. This second album follows on from the first album with brio by pushing the cursors even further. This album will appeal to prog metal fans but is clearly open to a much wider audience. Don’t hesitate for a second, go and listen to it as soon as it is released!
