Profondeur, cri du coeur et voyage sont les mots qui résonnent en moi après l’écoute des 9 morceaux de cet album. La clarinette n’est clairement pas un des instruments que j’ai le plus souvent l’habitude de croiser dans mes nombreuses heures d’écoute musicales, mais je vais me laisser transporter par ces nombreux solos, parfois inquiétant sur « A Glowing Whale », parfois morbide. Et si les aboiements de Clément Barbier à la fin de « Revenge » viennent totalement me faire frissonner, c’est les vibrations de la basse de Laurent Macaigne qui sont les plus redoutables sur « Farewell Song ». Les combats, leurs essences et leurs enjeux sont des thématiques qui façonneront cet album. Au coeur de leur processus artistique, les combats, la revanche, les cris de colère viennent nous déchirer et prendre la place de l’amour du dernier album. Sirène de police et chant dans un mégaphone dans « Body Memory » font une liaison parfaite avec les charges de la police dans « State of fear ». Les combats se font en Allemand sur « Sturm », les âmes vagabondent, se déchirent et combattent leurs démons dans cette tempête sonore.

Bärlin savent parfaitement nous embarquer dans leur univers ombragé, inquiétant, et plein de rage. Leur monde est parsemé d’animaux, de violence policière, de combats sous un son rock, très post-punk mixé sous son plus beau jour. Rien n’est fouilli dans cette tempête, et les sonoritès continuent de vibrer en nous même quand le silence se fait.

Depth, cry of the heart and journey are the words that resonate in me after listening to the 9 tracks of this album. The clarinet is clearly not one of the instruments I’m used to hear in my many hours of musical listening, but I’ll let myself be transported by these numerous solos, sometimes disturbing on « A Glowing Whale », sometimes morbid. And if Clément Barbier‘s barking at the end of « Revenge » totally makes me shiver, it is the vibrations of Laurent Macaigne‘s bass that are the most fearsome on « Farewell Song ». The fights, their essences and their stakes are themes that will shape this album. At the heart of their artistic process, fights, revenge, angry cries come to tear us apart and take the place of the love of the last album. Police siren and megaphone singing in « Body Memory » make a perfect connection with the police charges in « State of fear ». The fighting is done in German on « Sturm », the souls wander, tear each other apart and fight their demons in this sound storm.

Bärlin know perfectly how to embark us in their shady universe, disturbing, and full of rage. Their world is strewn with animals, police violence, fights under a rock sound, very post-punk mixed under its most beautiful day. Nothing is messed up in this storm, and the sounds continue to vibrate in us even when the silence is done.
