En 2019, je découvrais le groupe Carcariass via leur album Planet Chaos et j’étais clairement bluffé par la qualité de ce que proposait la formation française. Cette année le groupe est de retour avec son sixième album! Intitulé Afterworld, il sera disponible le 3 mars prochain via Downtone Studio et Season Of Mist Distribution.

Les deux premiers titres de l’album me font retrouver directement ce que j’avais apprécié dans l’album précédent, un death tinté d’autres influences avec le tout au service d’une musique marquante et très mélodique. Le chant de Jérome Thomas fonctionne toujours aussi bien et vient apporter un véritable plus aux morceaux de la formation. Pascal Lanquetin nous emmène avec ses compositions dans un monde sombre et inhospitalier, avec des riffs d’une très grande qualité.

Le morceau « Fall Of An Empire », totalement instrumental offre à Raphaël Couturier (basse), Bebert et Pascal possibilité de nous montrer un peu plus toute l’étendue de leur talent. Arrivé en milieu d’album, je sais déjà que cet album de Carcariass tient toutes ses promesses. On poursuit avec « Generation Roy », morceau très fort autant dans ses thématiques que musicalement, qui continue de m’enchanter les tympas avec des rythmiques redoutables.

Arrive l’autre single de cet album, « The Hive » qui représente parfaitement ce que le groupe franc-comtois nous propose depuis de nombreuses années: une musique puissante, digne des grands noms du genre qui marque dès la première écoute.  On arrive déjà aux deux dernières compos de ce nouvel album et comme les précédentes elles ont chacune de belles choses à offrir. Le morceau titre de l’album est la deuxième composition totalement instrumentale de cet album, et il vient le clore avec brio.

 

Avec Afterworld, Carcariass ont encore une fois prouvé qu’ils restent un groupe phare du death français. Cet album vient parfaitement prendre la suite du précédent tout en proposant quelque chose de neuf et toujours parfaitement enregistré et mixé. On salue d’ailleurs le travail de Drop au mix et ce lui de Jens Bogren au mastering! Un album qui vient rapidement se loger dans la discothèque idéale de 2023!

In 2019, I discovered the band Carcariass via their album Planet Chaos and I was clearly bluffed by the quality of what the French band offered. This year the band is back with its sixth album! Entitled Afterworld, it will be available on March 3rd via Downtone Studio and Season Of Mist Distribution.

The first two tracks of the album bring me right back to what I enjoyed in the previous album, a death metal tinged with other influences, all at the service of a striking and very melodic music. The vocals of Jérome Thomas still work well and bring a real plus to the band’s songs. Pascal Lanquetin takes us with his compositions into a dark and inhospitable world, with riffs of a very high quality.

The track « Fall Of An Empire », totally instrumental, offers Raphaël Couturier (bass), Bebert and Pascal the possibility to show us a little more the extent of their talent. Arriving in the middle of the album, I already know that this Carcariass album holds all its promises. We continue with « Generation Roy », a very strong track both in its themes and musically, which continues to enchant my eardrums with its fearsome rhythms.

Then comes the other single of this album, « The Hive », which perfectly represents what the band from Franche-Comté has been proposing for many years: a powerful music, worthy of the great names of the genre, which makes an impression from the first listening. We’ve already reached the last two songs of this new album and like the previous ones, they both have great things to offer. The title track of the album is the second totally instrumental composition of this album, and it closes it with brio.

 

With Afterworld, Carcariass have once again proven that they remain a leading French death band. This album is a perfect follow-up to the previous one, while offering something new and still perfectly recorded and mixed. We salute Drop’s work on the mix and Jens Bogren’s on the mastering! An album that will quickly find its place in the ideal record library of 2023!
