En 2020 je découvrais Abhcan sur scène puis avec leur album The Pit et je faisais une belle découverte entre heavy et prog métal. En 2023, le groupe revient avec un nouvel EP, intitulé Build & Break. Cette nouvelle sortie sera disponible dès le 10 mars via M&O Music.

On commence avec « Run! » qui envoie directement de gros riffs dans nos oreilles. L’alternance entre le chant clair et le chant hurlé de Lina Victoria fonctionne à merveille et colle parfaitement à ce que le titre propose musicalement. On part donc, à première vue, vers un EP très énergique laissant une grande place aux rythmiques endiablées.

Arrive ensuite le single de cet EP, « Never Bending », qui nous laisse apprécier pleinement le jeu de guitare de Laurent Gastellu et Arnaud Perrine, dans les deux cas très versatile. Cela permet à chaque titre de se démarquer de proposer quelque chose de neuf. On vous laisse découvrir ce morceau en fin d’article et nous dire ce que vous en pensez.

Les deux titres suivants nous donnent envie de headbanger avec les performances de Guillaume Agostini (batterie) et Stéphane Meyer (basse). Encore une fois le groupe nous propose une musique heavy prog variée qui arrive à ne pas tourner en rond et être toujours intrigante. Un petit bémol cependant, sur certains titres on a l’impression que la production est un peu en dessous, mais cela peut être le risque avec un EP autoproduit. Mais ce petit coup de moins bien n’empêche en rien d’apprécier ce que le groupe propose tout au long de ces cinq titres.

 

Avec Build & Break, Abhcan proposent une musique de qualité qui en prenant des influences dans des styles assez différents arrive à proposer quelque chose de percutant. Le premier album du groupe laissait entrevoir de belles choses pour la suite, cet EP en est une. On vous invite à aller voir le groupe en live dès que possible!

In 2020 I discovered Abhcan on stage and then with their album The Pit and I made a nice discovery between heavy and prog metal. In 2023, the band is back with a new EP, entitled Build & Break. This new release will be available on March 10th via M&O Music.

We start with « Run! » which sends big riffs directly into our ears. The alternation between Lina Victoria‘s clear and screamed vocals works perfectly and fits perfectly with what the track offers musically. So, at first sight, we’re heading for a very energetic EP with a lot of room for wild rhythms.

Then comes the single of this EP, « Never Bending », which lets us fully appreciate the guitar playing of Laurent Gastellu and Arnaud Perrine, in both cases very versatile. This allows each track to stand out and offer something new. We let you discover this track at the end of the article and tell us what you think about it.

The next two tracks make us want to headbang with the performances of Guillaume Agostini (drums) and Stéphane Meyer (bass). Once again the band offers us a varied heavy prog music that manages not to go round in circles and is always intriguing. A small drawback however, on some tracks one has the impression that the production is a bit inferior, but that can be the risk with a self-produced EP. But this little drawback doesn’t prevent us from appreciating what the band offers throughout these five tracks.

 

With Build & Break, Abhcan offer quality music which, by taking influences from different styles, manages to offer something striking. The band’s first album gave us a glimpse of great things to come, and this EP is one of them. We invite you to go and see the band live as soon as possible!
