Les prods de Lille mettent en avant les artistes post-punk et cold wave depuis plusieurs mois. Cette belle soirée, organisée par The Black Lab et Ah Bon ? Productions, en sera encore une fois une belle preuve au vue de l’engouement du public. Il faut dire que ce soir, on accueille les irlandais de VNV Nation, venu présenter leur Future pop, accompagné par Traitrs et leur post-punk hypnotique.

Nous arrivons à 20h, heure d’ouverture des portes et la salle est déjà quasiment pleine. Les fans du front-row sont installés, impatient de voir les Canadiens de Traitrs. D’entrée de jeu, le duo fait plaisir au public avec « Oh Bellerina » et nous enchante avec ses compositions intenses et parfaitement maîtrisées. Sean-Patrick Nolan et Shawn Tucker balancent leur post punk tinté de cold wave sans s’arrêter avec à chaque titre, une nouvelle raison de se laisser emporter par leurs morceaux hypnotiques. « Still From Her Sores » et « The Lovely Wounded » sont de petites pépites qu’on hésitera pas à aller réécouter au plus vite. Le public semble ravi par ce set et applaudit largement entre chaque titre. Le set file beaucoup trop vite à notre goût, et à celui des fans présents ce soir mais le groupe a encore quelque titres à nous proposer. On termine ce très beau moment de découverte avec le morceau « Bird’s Love » qui représente parfaitement tout ce qui nous a plu chez le duo Canadien. Le groupe remercie le public d’être venu tôt pour les écouter et quitte la scène en ayant réussi pleinement leur passage lillois.
On ne peut que vous inviter à vous plonger dans les albums de Traitrs et à les voir dès qu’ils seront de retour. Le duo canadien nous a totalement hypnotisé avec des morceaux restant en tête instantanément. Une magnifique découverte!
Et c’est parti pour le groupe que tout le monde attend, VNV Nation. Le groupe irlandais, vivant en grande partie en Allemagne depuis plusieurs années, arrive sur scène avec leur tout nouveau titre « Before The Rain » que le public connait déjà sur le bout des doigts. Ronan Harris est en grande forme et bouge partout sur scène en interprétant chaque titre avec une envie non dissimulée de faire remuer le public. La setlist est un véritable cadeau aux fans, avec des morceaux allant piocher dans toute la discographie de la formation. Les deux claviéristes et le batteur ne sont pas en reste et font de chaque morceau un véritable hymne pop. On sent que le public attendait ce concert depuis longtemps! Les paroles sont reprises en chœur et l’ambiance monte en intensité titre après titre. Le groupe a vu les choses en grand pour cette tournée avec un concert de plus de 2h! Peu d’artistes proposent autant de titres dans un set, mais on se laisse transporter à chacun d’eux dans l’univers dansant du groupe. Deux autres inédits seront interprétés ce soir, en annonçant de belles choses pour ce qui sera le onzième album de VNV Nation. Après un set de très grande qualité, le groupe quitte la scène mais revient vite interpréter une autre salve de titre qui auront le droit au même accueil enthousiaste du public. Avec « All Our Sins », la formation irlandaise termine cette soirée comme elle a commencé sur un morceau de pop tintée de coldwave qui nous emporte totalement.
La talent de VNV Nation est indéniable et cette soirée lilloise nous l’aura confirmé. Le set de ce soir aura tenu toutes ses promesses en proposant un vrai voyage dans tout ce que le groupe a pu créer depuis ses débuts. Une prestation qui fera date dans les anales de The Black Lab!

In Lille, gig produccers have been highlighting post-punk and cold wave artists for several months now. This beautiful evening, organised by The Black Lab and Ah Bon? Productions, will once again be a great proof of this, given the audience’s enthusiasm. Tonight, we welcome the Irish band VNV Nation, who have come to present their Future pop, accompanied by Traitrs and their hypnotic post-punk.
We arrive at 8pm, the time the doors open, and the room is already almost full. The fans of the front row are installed, impatient to see the Canadians of Traitrs. From the start, the duo pleases the audience with « Oh Bellerina » and enchants us with its intense and perfectly mastered compositions. Sean-Patrick Nolan and Shawn Tucker swing their cold wave-tinged post-punk without stopping with each track a new reason to get carried away by their hypnotic tracks. « Still From Her Sores » and « The Lovely Wounded » are little nuggets that we won’t hesitate to listen to again. The audience seems to be delighted by this set and applauds widely between each track. The set goes by far too quickly for our taste, and that of the fans present this evening, but the band still has some tracks to offer us. We end this beautiful moment of discovery with the track « Bird’s Love » which perfectly represents everything we liked about the Canadian duo. The band thanked the audience for coming early to listen to them and left the stage having fully succeeded in their performance in Lille.
We can only invite you to dive into Traitrs‘ albums and to see them as soon as they are back. The Canadian duo totally hypnotized us with songs that stayed in our heads instantly. A wonderful discovery!
And now it’s time for the band everyone has been waiting for, VNV Nation. The Irish band, who have been living in Germany for many years, come on stage with their brand new song « Before The Rain », which the audience already knows inside out. Ronan Harris is in top form and moves around the stage performing each song with a clear desire to get the audience moving. The setlist is a real gift to the fans, with songs from the band’s entire discography. The two keyboardists and the drummer are not to be outdone and make each track a real pop anthem. You can feel that the audience has been waiting for this concert for a long time! The lyrics are taken up in chorus and the atmosphere grows in intensity track after track. The band has done a great job on this tour with a concert of more than 2 hours! Few artists offer so many tracks in one set, but you are transported to each of them in the band’s dancing universe. Two other unreleased tracks will be performed tonight, announcing great things for what will be the eleventh album of VNV Nation. After a great set, the band leaves the stage but quickly comes back to perform another salvo of songs that will be given the same enthusiastic welcome by the audience. With « All Our Sins », the Irish band ends the evening as it started, with a coldwave-tinged pop track that totally carries us away.
VNV Nation‘s talent is undeniable and this evening in Lille confirmed it. Tonight’s set kept all its promises by offering a real trip through everything the band has created since its beginnings. A performance that will go down in the history of The Black Lab!
