Une belle date était annoncée pour cette mi-mars au Splendid de Lille! En effet, les américains de Kamelot ont décidé de proposer au public lillois leur tournée débutée en amont de la sortie de leur nouvel album, The Awakening. Pour les accompagner, ils ont invité Myrath, Eleine et League Of Distortion pour une soirée de longue haleine qui promet un déluge d’énergie.

Quelques personnes sont déjà présentes devant la salle à l’ouverture des portes. Mais pour beaucoup, 18h c’est un peu tôt, et une fois toutes les personnes présentes dans la salle, on se rend vite compte que le premier groupe jouera devant une foule peu nombreuse. Mais les allemands de League Of Distortion ne se démontent pas, montent sur la scène et débutent leur set avec le très énergique « My Revenge ». La voix de Anna Brunner est une très belle découverte et son entrain à faire bouger le public fait plaisir à voir. Les musiciens sont également en grande forme et nous proposent des morceaux métal entrainants et véritablement modernes dans les sonorités. La chanteuse fera chanter le public lillois à plusieurs reprises, de plus d’autres personnes arrivent petit à petit et restent happées par le groupe allemand. Etant en ouverture de cette soirée, ils n’ont que peu de temps pour convaincre mais ce temps sera parfaitement utilisé, et on est conquis par la performance des allemands. « L.O.D » vient clôturer le set d’une très belle manière, même s’il aurait trouvé une place plus importante en ouverture de set au vu du visuel proposé sur ce titre. Le groupe quitte la scène largement applaudi en promettant de revenir vite nous voir! Le public monte rapidement retrouver League Of Distortion au stand de merch, signe d’un set réussi!
On enchaine rapidement avec les suédois de Eleine. Leur set commence en trombes avec « Enemies » et montre de suite le talent vocal de Madeleine Liljestam. On sent que beaucoup dans le public connaissent les morceaux, quand on les voit sauter et headbanger en rythme. Rikard Ekberg et Victor Jonasson forment un duo de guitare très efficace qu’on prend plaisir à entendre nous balancer de puissants riffs. Le public se laisse transporter par le dark symphonic metal des suédois et les applaudit largement. « All Shall Burn » sera également repris en chœur par les fans des premiers rangs, et nous laissera profiter du duo rythmique formé par Filip Stålberg (basse) et Jesper Sunnhagen (batterie). Pour le dernier titre, « Death Incarnate » le groupe mettra toute son énergie au service d’un morceau percutant qui terminera de convaincre le public lillois. Le groupe nous laisse en nous remerciant d’avoir répondu présent pour leur premier passage lillois.
Il est temps d’accueillir sur la scène Myrath, qui nous ont promis de belles surprises pour cette tournée. Les tunisiens nous enchantent dès les premières notes avec leur blazing desert metal. Les parties de guitare de Malek Ben Arbia alternent toujours entre riffing puissant et parties plus progressives avec toujours le même talent. Le groupe alterne entre classiques de sa discographie et nouveautés. En effet, nous avons le droit à trois titres inédits de l’album à venir cet automne. Ce qu’on peut vous dire c’est que ces morceaux continuent de prouver la place de choix de Myrath dans le métal interantional. Zaher Zorgati est bien évidemment en grande forme vocale et semble ravi de jouer devant un public aussi réceptif. Le groupe tunisien est clairement chez lui en France et chaque concert confirme l’amour que le public lui porte.
Bien évidemment, Anis Jouini (basse), Morgan Berthet (batterie) et Kévin Codfert (claviers) sont eux-aussi à fond tout au long du set et nous montrent toute l’étendue de leur talent. Le set passe beaucoup trop vite à notre goût à tous et le groupe nous annonce déjà que la fin approche. Mais il nous reste encore un titre pour donner de la voix et nous laisser transporter par la musique des tunisiens. Le groupe promet de repasser en tête d’affiche très rapidement et quitte la scène sous des applaudissements fournis de tout le public lillois.
Il est maintenant l’heure de découvrir la scénographie des américains de Kamelot, et on peut dire que visuellement ça attire déjà bien l’œil. Le groupe monte sur scène au son de « Veil Of Elysium » et nous montre d’entrée de jeu qu’ils ne sont pas là pour se reposer sur leurs lauriers. Chaque musicien donne tout et nous propose un power métal d’une efficacité redoutable qui enchante le public lillois. Le groupe révèle rapidement que Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum) les accompagne sur cette tournée, et la suissesse nous montre qu’elle maîtrise aussi bien le chant clair que des growls venus des entrailles de la terre. Sa voix se mêle parfaitement à celle de Tommy Karevik, qui sera stratosphérique tout au long du show.
Le single « One More flag In The Ground » est déjà connu du public qui le reprend en chœur, au grand plaisir des musiciens. Les américains nous disent que c’est leur premier passage à Lille, et qu’ils nous remercient d’être venus aussi nombreux. Le concert se poursuit avec une setlist mêlant des titres de toutes les époques de la formation américaine.
Autant vous dire que les fans sont ravis d’entendre « March Of Mephisto » ou encore le cultissime « Karma ». Sur « Sacrimony (Angel Of Afterlife) » Melissa est de retour et nous livre une prestation d’anthologie! Le concert file à une vitesse folle et le riff de « Phantom Devine (Shadow Empire) vient nous ravir, parfaitement servi par un Thomas Youngblood en grande forme. Alex Landenburg aura le droit son moment et nous envoie un superbe solo de batterie avant d’enchaîner avec « Forever » dernier titre de cette belle soirée.
Le groupe revient rappelé par le public lillois pour deux titres. Tout d’abord le tout dernier single en date « Opus Of The Night (Ghost Requiem) » avant de terminer en beauté avec le mythique « Liar Liar (Wasteland Monarchy) », qui donnera aux fans une dernière chance de chanter avec le groupe.
On termine cette belle soirée ravis par le set des américains qui prouvent une fois de plus que le power métal n’est pas une discipline européenne uniquement. Les fans de la formation ont eu le droit à une setlist de grande qualité qui les aura fait voyager dans la discographie de Kamelot, avec cette petite touche de nouveauté bienvenue qui annonce de belles choses pour l’album qui arrive.

A great show was announced for this mid-March at the Splendid in Lille! Indeed, the American band Kamelot decided to offer the Lille audience their tour that started before the release of their new album, The Awakening. To accompany them, they have invited Myrath, Eleine and League Of Distortion for a long night that promises a deluge of energy.
A few people are already present in front of the hall when the doors open. But for many, 6pm is a bit early, and once everyone is in the room, it becomes clear that the first band will be playing to a small crowd. But the Germans of League Of Distortion don’t give up, take the stage and start their set with the very energetic « My Revenge ». Anna Brunner‘s voice is a great discovery and her drive to make the audience move is a pleasure to see. The musicians are also in great shape and offer us catchy metal tracks with a truly modern sound. The singer will make the Lille audience sing several times, and more and more people arrive little by little and are caught by the German band. Being the opening act of the evening, they only have a short time to convince, but this time will be perfectly used, and we are conquered by the performance of the Germans. « L.O.D » closes the set in a very nice way, even if it should have been placed as the opening song considering the visual aspect of this song. The band left the stage with a big round of applause and a promise to come back soon! The audience quickly goes up to find League Of Distortion at the merch stand, a sign of a successful set!
We quickly move on to the Swedish band Eleine. Their set starts off with a bang with « Enemies » and immediately shows the vocal talent of Madeleine Liljestam. You can tell that many in the audience know the songs, when you see them jumping and headbanging to the beat. Rikard Ekberg and Victor Jonasson form a very effective guitar duo that is a pleasure to listen to as they throw powerful riffs. The audience is carried away by the dark symphonic metal of the Swedes and applauds them widely. « All Shall Burn » is also taken up in chorus by the fans in the front rows, and lets us enjoy the rhythmic duo formed by Filip Stålberg (bass) and Jesper Sunnhagen (drums). For the last track, « Death Incarnate », the band will put all their energy into a punchy song that will convince the audience in Lille. The band leaves us thanking us for having been there for their first visit to Lille.
It’s time to welcome Myrath on stage, who have promised us some nice surprises for this tour. The Tunisians enchant us from the first notes with their blazing desert metal. Malek Ben Arbia‘s guitar parts always alternate between powerful riffing and more progressive parts with the same talent. The band alternates between classics of their discography and novelties. Indeed, we have the right to three unreleased tracks from the album to come this autumn. What we can tell you is that these tracks continue to prove Myrath’s place in interantional metal. Zaher Zorgati is obviously in great vocal form and seems delighted to be playing to such a receptive audience. The Tunisian band is clearly at home in France and each concert confirms the love the audience has for them.
Of course, Anis Jouini (bass), Morgan Berthet (drums) and Kévin Codfert (keyboards) are also in full swing throughout the set and show us the full extent of their talent. The set goes by far too fast for our taste and the band already announces that the end is approaching. But we still have one more track to give our voices and let ourselves be transported by the music of the Tunisians. The band promises to be a headliner again very soon and leaves the stage to the applause of the whole audience.
It’s now time to discover the set design of American band Kamelot, and we can say that visually it’s already quite eye-catching. The band takes the stage to the sound of « Veil Of Elysium » and shows us from the start that they are not here to rest on their laurels. Each musician gives everything and offers us a power metal of a formidable efficiency which enchants the audience in Lille. The band quickly reveals that Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum) is accompanying them on this tour, and the Swiss shows us that she masters both clear vocals and growls coming from the bowels of the earth. Her voice blends perfectly with that of Tommy Karevik, who will be stratospheric throughout the show.
The single « One More Flag In The Ground » is already known to the audience, who sing along to it, much to the delight of the musicians. The Americans tell us that this is their first time in Lille, and that they thank us for coming in such large numbers. The concert continues with a setlist mixing songs from all the periods of the American band.

We ended this beautiful evening delighted by the set of the Americans who proved once again that power metal is not only a European discipline. Fans of the band were treated to a high quality setlist that took them on a journey through Kamelot’s discography, with a welcome touch of novelty that heralds great things for the upcoming album.
