En 2020 je découvrais AD INFINITUM avec leur premier album Chapter I – Monarchy, qui proposait une musique entre métal symphonique et quelque chose de plus moderne. Leur second album a confirmé cette première bonne impression, et le groupe germano-suisse enchaîne cet année avec son troisième album. Initulé Chapter III – Downfall, il sera disponible le 31 mars prochain via Napalm Records.

Cet album est, tout d’abord, une nouvelle démonstration de la puissance vocale de Melissa Bonny, qui alterne entre un chant puissant sur le single « Somewhere Better », tout en hésitant pas à aller vers des growls dans « Upside Down » . Cette variété de chant donne une vrai identité au groupe, et lui permet de se démarquer de nombres de groupes du genre.
Bien évidemment les riffs de Adrian Theßenvitz sont d’une redoutable efficacité et viennent rendre nombres de morceaux totalement mémorables. La force de AD INFINITUM réside dans leur capacité à toujours aller de l’avant et de proposer des titres toujours novateurs musicalement. En quelques titres ce nouvel album est déjà très convainquant et montre qu’il faut désormais bel et bien compter sur eux dans la scène actuelle.
Niklas Müller (batterie) et Korbinian Benedict (basse) montrent toute leur puissance rythmique sur « Underworld », qui voit d’ailleurs réapparaitre le chant hurlé de Melissa. Les deux musiciens s’amusent et viennent nous démontrer leur talent de composition. Cette variété de sons tout au long de ce nouvel album fait très plaisir à entendre et laisse présager de beaux jours à ces morceaux lors des concert à venir.
L’album explorant l’histoire et la mythologie de l’Egypte Ancienne vient à plusieurs reprises nous rappeler cette direction avec des sonorités ramenant à ce pays. Le morceau « Ravenous » ou encore le dernier titre « Legends » en sont de belles représentations. Sur ce dernier, le groupe accueille Chrigel Glanzmann d’Eluveitie qui vient ajouter sa voix reconnaissable en mille à l’intro du morceau.
Avec Chapter III – Downfall, AD INFINITUM proposent un album varié et toujours novateur. On navigue entre plusieurs genres musicaux avec une fluidité assez impressionnante. Les musiciens sont tous en grande forment et prouvent encore une nouvelle fois que leurs influences respectives trouvent toute une place dans la musique du groupe, en créant une identité forte qui fait de la formation un cas à part dans la scène métal symphonique, et ça n’est pas pour nous déplaire!

In 2020 I discovered AD INFINITUM with their first album Chapter I – Monarchy, which proposed a music between symphonic metal and something more modern. Their second album confirmed this first good impression, and the German-Swiss band follows up this year with their third album. Entitled Chapter III – Downfall, it will be available on March 31st via Napalm Records.
This album is, first of all, another demonstration of Melissa Bonny‘s vocal power, alternating between powerful vocals on the single « Somewhere Better » and growls on « Upside Down ». This variety of vocals gives the band a real identity, and allows it to stand out from many other bands of the genre.
Of course, Adrian Theßenvitz‘s riffs are very effective and make many of the tracks totally memorable. The strength of AD INFINITUM lies in their ability to always move forward and to always offer musically innovative tracks. In just a few tracks, this new album is already very convincing and shows that they are now a force to be reckoned with in the current scene.
Niklas Müller (drums) and Korbinian Benedict (bass) show all their rhythmic power on « Underworld », which sees Melissa‘s screaming vocals reappear. The two musicians have fun and show us their compositional talent. The variety of sounds throughout this new album is very pleasing to hear and suggests that these tracks will have a bright future in the concerts to come.
The album explores the history and mythology of Ancient Egypt and reminds us of this direction with a number of sounds from that country. The track « Ravenous » and the last track « Legends » are good examples of this. On the latter, the band welcomes Chrigel Glanzmann from Eluveitie who adds his recognizable voice to the intro of the track.
With Chapter III – Downfall, AD INFINITUM offer a varied and always innovative album. We navigate between several musical genres with an impressive fluidity. The musicians are all in great form and prove once again that their respective influences find a place in the band’s music, creating a strong identity that makes the band a special case in the symphonic metal scene, and that’s not to our displeasure!
