Les poitevins de OSM nous proposent en cette fin avril leur deuxième sortie après un premier album en 2019. Intitulé Plagued By Doubts, l’album est disponible dès aujourd’hui via Season Of Mist. Que nous réserve ce deuxième effort de la formation?

L’ambiance sombre est posée dès l’intro du morceau titre, puis la voix de Z Mood vient nous enchanter avec sontimbre chaud et un mystérieux. Puis le chant clair passe en chant hurlé avec l’arrivée des autres instruments. D’entrée de jeu les guitares de Z Mood et Damien Roussel nous balancent des riffs imparables qui montrent que le groupe a beaucoup de choses à nous montrer. Ce premier morceau sert de très belle porte d’entrée à l’univers prog du groupe. On y voit déjà des très belles choses et on a envie de découvrir rapidement la suite! Le titre suivant nous montre clairement le côté prog du groupe avec une section rythmique que des groupes comme Opeth ne renieraient pas. La basse de Marco Segui et la batterie d’Eliot Remblier se répondent non stop pendant plus de 7 minutes et nous envoient des rythmiques tantôt puissantes, tantôt beaucoup plus douces mais toujours avec un certain brio pour nous faire bouger la tête! L’univers sombre proposé dans cette nouvelle sortie du groupe se ressent par les sons distordus de claviers et autres glockenspiel utilisés en arrière plan. « Why Always More? » nous amène des growls puissants tandis que « Drown by Myself » est un morceau intrumental parfaitement maîtrisé collant parfaitement à tout ce que le groupe propose depuis le début de l’album. Les deux derniers morceaux, liés par aussi bien par leurs titres se complétant que par une transition invisible, nous illustrent une dernière fois les deux facettes du groupe. Une extrême avec des riffs dévastateurs et une autre plus douce avec une voix claire magnifique qui transporte l’âme avant un retour en force du chant hurlé.

Avec cette deuxième sortie, OSM se font une place de choix sur la scène prog métal française. Plagued By Doubts saura plaire aux fans du genre tout comme à ceux ouverts à des univers bien posés portés par une musique parfaitement composée. Une très belle réussite que j’ai hâte de pouvoir découvrir en live !

OSM from Poitiers offer us their second release at the end of April after a first album in 2019. Entitled Plagued By Doubts, the album is available today via Season Of Mist. What’s in store for this second outing from the band?

The dark atmosphere is set from the intro of the title track, then Z Mood‘s voice comes to enchant us with its warm and mysterious shadow. Then the clear vocals turn into screamed vocals with the arrival of the other instruments. From the start, the guitars of Z Mood and Damien Roussel throw some unstoppable riffs that show that the band has a lot to show us. This first track serves as a very nice gateway to the band’s prog universe. We can already see some very nice things and we want to discover the rest quickly! The next track clearly shows us the prog side of the band with a rhythm section that bands like Opeth would not deny. Marco Segui‘s bass and Eliot Remblier‘s drums answer each other non-stop for more than 7 minutes and send us sometimes powerful, sometimes much softer rhythms but always with a certain brilliance to make us move our heads! The dark universe proposed in this new release of the band is felt by the distorted sounds of keyboards and other glockenspiel used in the background. « Why Always More? » brings us some powerful growls while « Drown by Myself » is a perfectly mastered intrumental track that fits perfectly with everything the band has been offering since the beginning of the album. The last two tracks, linked by both their complementary titles and an invisible transition, illustrate one last time the two facets of the band. An extreme one with devastating riffs and a softer one with a beautiful clear voice that transports the soul before a fercious comeback of unclean vocals.

With this second release, OSM are making a place for themselves on the French prog metal scene. Plagued By Doubts will please fans of the genre as well as those who are open to well laid out universes carried by a perfectly composed music. A great success that I can’t wait to discover live!
