On vous en avait parlé il y a quelques mois lors de l’annonce, en cette fin avril la salle de La Camillienne à Paris accueillait la première édition du Prog Tension Fest, organisée par Hyper Tension Prod. Quatre groupes français ont été choisi pour ce nouvel évènement prog métal: 6:33, Altesia, Synapse et Esprit D’Escalier. Les amateurs se sont donc donnés rendez-vous dans la petite salle du 12ème arrondissement pour soutenir cet évènement prometteur. On ne pouvait, de notre côté, évidemment pas manquer ça et nous avons donc sauté dans un train en direction de Paris pour couvrir ce festival.

La soirée débute avec les orléanais d’Esprit D’Escalier que nous découvrons pour la première fois. Leur prog métal fait clairement mouche auprès du public et nous laisse découvrir leur grand talent de compositeurs. Matthieu Couffrant est un batteur impressionnant de maîtrise n’hésitant pas à aller vers de rythmiques assez complexes mais toujours entrainantes. Baptiste Bois et Rabataj n’hésitent pas à faire résonner leurs guitares en multipliant les tempos changeant pour notre plus grand plaisir. Rabataj donne aussi de la voix ce soir et nous montre qu’il maîtrise aussi bien le chant que la guitare. Le set est très bon et donne clairement envie de découvrir un peu plus la musique du groupe. Evidemment, on oublie pas le jeu de basse énergique de Vincent Charlie qui vient parfaitement se mêler à la batterie de Matthieu. En une petite demi-heure, le groupe nous a convaincu et quitte la scène très largement applaudi par le public présent dans la salle.

Evidemment après la claque prise à L’International l’an dernier, nous ne pouvions rater cette si belle occasion de retrouver Synapse! Et comme toujours le chant de Thomas Valentin va dès le premier morceau nous rappeler pourquoi nous aimons tant cette formation! Les morceaux choisis ce soir donnent tous l’occasion à Carlos (batterie), Alex (guitare) et Sacha (basse) de nous montrer toute l’étendue de leur talent. La bonne humeur est de mise aussi bien sur scène que dans le public, et l’arrivée de Thomas coiffé d’un sombrero géant pour le morceau « La Bikina » de Luis Miguel ne fait que renforcer cette ambiance bon enfant. Leur prog métal est toujours aussi agréable à vivre en live et on sent que le groupe a envie de nous faire participer ce soir. Sur le dernier morceau du set nous serons invité à faire quelque vocalises pour accompagner les musiciens et tout le monde s’exécutera avec grand plaisir. Synapse est un groupe qu’on adore entendre aussi bien chez nous que sur scène et ce soir aura été une nouvelle belle preuve que la formation a de beaux jours devant elle! On espère avoir la chance de les voir très vite dans le nord! En tout cas, ce deuxième set de cette première édition du festival à lui aussi tenu toutes ses promesses.

On poursuit avec une autre découverte pour ce soir, les bordelais d’Altesia! Le quintet veut nous proposer un rock « frogressif » de qualité et c’est ce qu’ils vont faire. En quelques minutes, on arrive à comprendre pourquoi le groupe est un des noms qu’on retrouve régulièrement sur les affiches prog métal françaises! Leur musique est aussi bien composée qu’interprétée et comme pour les groupes précédents la bonne humeur est également de la partie. Les musiciens vont nous proposer des morceaux longs et emplis de rythmiques toutes plus alambiquées les unes que les autres, et le public répond clairement très positivement à tous ces envolées musicales. Sur certains refrains, on croirait entendre les anglais d’Haken, avec ces paroles qui restent en tête et qu’on a envie de reprendre en chœur. Un set totalement réussi qui aura su convaincre, ceux qui comment nous les découvraient ce soir!

On passe donc au dernier groupe de cette première édition, 6:33! Les musiciens et les deux vocalistes vont en quelques secondes nous plonger dans un univers musical et visuel dansant et complètement barré! Bénédicte et Flow se partagent les parties de chant avec brio en n’hésitant pas à nous dire de bouger le plus possible. Pas besoin de nous le dire deux fois tant les titres sont de véritables pépites faites pour la piste de dance, mais une piste de dance où les rythmiques complexes seraient la norme. Chaque musicien excelle à son poste et donne tout pour une fin de soirée légendaire. Nous avions découvert la formation avec leur dernier album en date, et que vous dire à part que les morceaux prennent une dimension nouvelle en version live. Bien évidemment, les albums précédents sont aussi de la partie et nous découvrons les morceaux avec un enthousiasme non dissimulé. On ne pouvait rêver meilleur fin de soirée pour cette première édition du festival et le groupe semble être prêt à nous faire danser jusqu’au bout de la nuit. La réalité se rappelant à nous ils nous offrent une dernière occasion de faire la fête avec eux avant de quitter la scène en laissant un public totalement conquis!

Cette première édition du Prog Tension Fest a été une véritable preuve de la vivacité et de la diversité de la scène prog métal française. Le public présent à tout donner pour que les groupes passent une aussi belle soirée que nous mais on ne peut occulter la fréquentation en demi-teinte qu’on espère grandissante lors de la prochaine édition. En tout cas, on y sera et on espère vous y retrouver nombreux!

We told you about it a few months ago when it was announced, at the end of April the venue of La Camillienne in Paris hosted the first edition of the Prog Tension Fest, organized by Hyper Tension Prod. Four French bands were chosen for this new prog metal event: 6:33, Altesia, Synapse and Esprit D’Escalier. The fans met in the small room of the 12th district to support this promising event. We couldn’t miss it and so we jumped on a train to Paris to cover this festival.

The evening starts with the Orléans-based Esprit D’Escalier that we discover for the first time. Their prog metal is clearly a hit with the audience and lets us discover their great talent as composers. Matthieu Couffrant is an impressive drummer who doesn’t hesitate to go for complex but always catchy rhythms. Baptiste Bois and Rabataj do not hesitate to make their guitars resound by multiplying the changing tempos for our greatest pleasure. Rabataj also gives voice tonight and shows us that he masters as well the singing as the guitar. The set is very good and clearly gives the desire to discover a little more the music of the band. Of course, we don’t forget the energetic bass playing of Vincent Charlie who comes to mix perfectly with the drums of Matthieu. In half an hour, the band convinced us and leaves the stage very widely applauded by the audience present in the room.

Obviously after the slap taken at L’International last year, we couldn’t miss this great opportunity to see Synapse again! And as always, Thomas Valentin‘s vocals will remind us from the very first song why we love this band so much! The songs chosen tonight all give Carlos (drums), Alex (guitar) and Sacha (bass) the opportunity to show us the full extent of their talent. The good mood is there as well on stage as in the audience, and the arrival of Thomas wearing a giant sombrero for the song « La Bikina » by Luis Miguel only reinforces this good mood. Their prog metal is always so pleasant to live and we feel that the band wants to make us participate tonight. On the last song of the set we will be invited to do some vocals to accompany the musicians and everyone will do it with great pleasure. Synapse is a band that we love to hear at home as well as on stage and tonight was another great proof that the band has great days ahead! We hope to have the chance to see them very soon in the north! In any case, this second set of this first edition of the festival has also kept all its promises.

We continue with another discovery for this evening, the Bordeaux of Altesia! The quintet wants to offer us a quality « frogressive » rock and that’s what they’ll do. In a few minutes, we can understand why the band is one of the names that we regularly find on the French prog metal posters! Their music is as well composed as interpreted and as for the previous bands, the good mood is also part of it. The musicians are going to propose us long pieces filled with rhythmics all more convoluted the ones than the others, and the public clearly answers very positively to all these musical flights. On some refrains, we think we can hear the English of Haken, with these lyrics that stay in our head and that we want to take back in chorus. A totally successful set that will have convinced those who how we discovered them tonight!

We then move on to the last band of this first edition, 6:33! The musicians and the two vocalists are going to plunge us in a few seconds in a musical and visual universe dancing and completely crazy! Bénédicte and Flow share the singing parts with brio and don’t hesitate to tell us to move as much as possible. No need to tell us twice as the tracks are real nuggets made for the dance floor, but a dance floor where complex rhythms would be the norm. Each musician excels in his position and gives everything for a legendary end of evening. We discovered the band with their latest album, and what can we say except that the songs take on a new dimension in a live version. Of course, the previous albums are also part of the show and we discover the tracks with a not dissimulated enthusiasm. We couldn’t dream of a better end to the evening for this first edition of the festival and the band seems to be ready to make us dance until the end of the night. Reality reminding us they offer us a last opportunity to party with them before leaving the stage leaving a totally conquered audience!

This first edition of the Prog Tension Fest was a real proof of the vivacity and diversity of the French prog metal scene. The audience gave everything to make sure that the bands had as good an evening as we did, but we can’t hide the low attendance that we hope will increase for the next edition. In any case, we will be there and we hope to see you there!
