3 ans après le très bon Everyone Loves You… Once You Leave Them, The Amity Affliction sont prêt à nous partager une nouvelle dose de métalcore bien comme il faut. Les Australiens ont toujours fait preuve de créativité et Not Without My Ghosts, sorti ce vendredi 12 mai via Pure Noise Records ne déroge pas à la règle.

Avez-vous peur des fantômes ? Ou sont-ils juste ceux que vous aimez sous une autre forme ? Les australiens viennent vous réconcilier avec eux, ou même vous donner l’envie d’en devenir un. Dès les premiers instants de « Show Me Your God », une voix chuchotée vient ouvrir l’album, comme l’appel d’un défunt, sous les premières notes d’un piano qui vient donner la rythmique du titre. Le scream de Joel Birch ne tardera pas à nous envoûter.

Les featuring s’enchainent mais ne se ressemblent pas. Lorsque Andrew Neufeld de Comeback Kid s’invite à la danse, sur « Death And The Setting Sun », on adhére et sa place au milieu de l’album amène vraiment le point culminant . La voix de Andrew apporte une touche de scream très appréciable. Le morceau offrira un breakdown puissant, donnant un tournant au morceau. On est sur le morceau le plus violent, et le plus intéressant de l’album de par sa composition. La surprise se fera à l’apparition du nom de Louie Knuxx sur « I See Dead People ». Le rappeur Néo-Zélandais étant décédé depuis 2021, ce featuring ne laisse pas indifférent, surtout sur la phrase « I See The Ghost Of My Friend », traduisez « Je vois le fantôme de mon ami ». La batterie de Joe Longobardi est d’une rapidité folle et les sonorités hip-hop ne sont pas sans rappeler ce qu’on a pu entendre sur le dernier album de The Dali Thundering Concept. Une légère déception se fera sur « When It Rains It Pours », dont le feat avec Landon Tewers de The Plot In You donne le sentiment d’un guest pas assez « exploité ». Lorsqu’on connait le talent de composition de The Plot In You, on aurait adoré un mélange de style, mais on finit avec un titre à la sauce TAA.

L’alliance des deux voix de Joel et son bassiste Ahren Stringer sublime les morceaux, comme « Close To Me », dont les choeurs nous rappellent les chants funéraires, et pourtant, le rythme de ce titre est très intense, ce qui contraste avec le mid-tempo des autres morceaux. L’album se clôture avec le titre éponyme de l’album et la sublime voix de phem. Les violons sont de sortie, et les émotions n’en seront que décuplé.

The Amity Affliction nous servent un très bon album, rempli d’émotions, et de questionnements sur la place des défunts dans notre vie, et leurs impacts sur notre santé mentale. Les australiens ne perdent pas leurs places dans les top artistes métalcore, bien au contraire. On ne peut qu’attendre d’entendre ses morceaux en live pour confirmer notre pensée.

3 years after the very good Everyone Loves You… Once You Leave Them, The Amity Affliction are ready to share with us a new dose of metalcore as it should be. The Australians have always been creative and Not Without My Ghosts, released this Friday May 12th via Pure Noise Records, is no exception to the rule.

Are you afraid of ghosts? Or are they just the ones you love in another form? The Australians come to reconcile you with them, or even make you want to become one. From the first moments of « Show Me Your God », a whispered voice opens the album, like the call of a deceased, under the first notes of a piano that gives the rhythm of the title. The scream of Joel Birch will not take long to bewitch us.

The featuring follow one another but they are not the same. When Andrew Neufeld of Comeback Kid invites himself to the dance, on « Death And The Setting Sun », we adhere and its place in the middle of the album really brings the highlight of the album. The voice of Andrew brings a touch of scream very appreciable. The track will offer a powerful breakdown, giving a turn to the track. We are on the most violent track, and the most interesting of the album by its composition. The surprise will be the appearance of the name of Louie Knuxx on « I See Dead People ». The New Zealand rapper having passed away in 2021, this featuring does not leave indifferent, especially on the sentence « I See The Ghost Of My Friend ». The drum of Joe Longobardi is fast and the hip-hop sounds are not without reminding what we could hear on the last album of The Dali Thundering Concept. A slight disappointment will be on « When It Rains It Pours », whose feat with Landon Tewers of The Plot In You gives the feeling of a guest not « exploited » enough. When we know the talent of composition of The Plot In You, we would have loved a mix of style, but we end up with a track in the TAA sauce.

The alliance of the two voices of Joel and his bassist Ahren Stringer sublimates the tracks, as on « Close To Me », whose chorus reminds us of funeral chants, and yet, the rhythm of this track is very intense, which contrasts with the mid-tempo of the other tracks. The Amity Affliction serve us a very good album, full of emotions, and questionings on the place of the dead in our life, and their impacts on our mental health. The Australians do not lose their place in the top metalcore artists, on the contrary. We can only wait to hear their songs live to confirm our thoughts.
