Krysaor, groupe de métal français formé par le batteur Arnaud Carnielli, ont sorti un peu plus tôt cette année leur premier album. Intitulé Forword, il est disponible via M&O Music et Season Of Mist. Pour cet album le musicien s’est entouré de Gus Mosanto (Adagio, Revolution Renaissance), Christophe Laurent à la guitare, Varenfel (Obscur Feuillage, Supermarket) aux claviers et Jules Brosset (Arthedone) à la basse. Que nous réserve ce premier long format du groupe?

Dès l’intro de « Celestial Sanctuary », premier morceau du disque, on découvre les talents de Varenfel derrière ses claviers. Puis s’en suit en morceau heavy métal de grande qualité porté par la voix puissante de Gus Mosanto. On sent que le groupe veux se hisser haut avec cet album, et cette entrée en matière est prometteuse. Les instruments ont chacun leur moment de gloire et le morceau suivant confirme que la formation a vraiment trouvé un rythme de croisière. Les morceaux alternent entre pur heavy métal et quelques parties plus progressives comme sur « By Your Side », où les influences des grands groupes des années 90 sont bien présentes. La variété est la chose qui frappe le plus à l’écoute de cet album, que ça soit rythmiquement, vocalement ou du côté des guitares, cela rend l’album très agréable à écouter. Les morceaux ont chacun une vrai identité, mais forment aussi un tout très cohérent. Le travail d’Arnaud à la batterie est à saluer en particulier sur le morceau « Let There Be Light », qui n’a clairement aucun mal à concurrencer certains titres majeurs du genre. « Emperor Of The Sea » est vraiment le titre que je préfère sur cet album, autant par sa composition que par les thèmes abordés. L’album se termine avec l’excellent « The Gate » qui laisse aux musiciens une dernière occasion de tous briller, dans une composition résumant parfaitement tout ce qu’on nous a proposé tout au long de l’écoute.
La découverte de Forword et de Krysaor a été un très bon moment! L’album montre que le groupe cherche à nous proposer une musique moderne tout en restant fidèle aux codes du genre. Les morceaux ont tous quelque chose à apporter musicalement et on sent vraiment le travail de composition. Un album qui fait du bien et qui donne envie de découvrir au plus vite la formation en live! Encore une belle sortie chez M&O Music!

For this album, the musician was surrounded by Gus Mosanto (Adagio, Revolution Renaissance), Christophe Laurent on guitar, Varenfel (Obscur Feuillage, Supermarket) on keyboards and Jules Brosset (Arthedone) on bass. What does the band’s first full-length release have in store for us?

Right from the intro to « Celestial Sanctuary », the first track on the album, we discover Varenfel‘s talents behind his keyboards. This is followed by a top-quality heavy metal track driven by Gus Mosanto‘s powerful vocals. You can tell the band are aiming high with this album, and this is a promising start. Each instrument has its moment of glory, and the next track confirms that the band have really found their stride. The tracks alternate between pure heavy metal and a few more progressive parts, as on ‘By Your Side’, where the influences of the great bands of the 90s are clearly present. The most striking thing about listening to this album is the variety, whether rhythmically, vocally or guitar-wise, which makes it a pleasure to listen to. The tracks each have a real identity, but also form a very coherent whole. Arnaud‘s drumming is particularly commendable on the track « Let There Be Light », which clearly has no trouble competing with some of the genre’s major titles. « Emperor Of The Sea » is really my favourite track on this album, as much for its composition as for the themes it deals with. The album ends with the excellent « The Gate », which gives the musicians one last chance to shine, in a composition that perfectly sums up everything we’ve been offered throughout the listening session.
The discovery of Forword and Krysaor was a great moment! The album shows that the band is trying to offer us modern music while remaining faithful to the codes of the genre. The tracks all have something to contribute musically and you can really feel the work that went into the composition. A feel-good album that makes you want to discover the band live as soon as possible! Another great release from M&O Music!
