Une belle soirée de rock est annoncée au Splendid puisque les américains de Clutch arrêtent leur tournée dans la capitale du Nord! Autant vous dire que le public s’est déplacé nombreux pour ne rien manquer du set des américains. Pour les accompagner sur cette tournée, c’est l’artiste de Washington Nate Bergman qui a été choisi pour chauffer la salle.

La voix puissante de Nate Bergman nous accueille a capella et accroche le public de la salle lilloise en quelques instants. Les musiciens le rejoignent, et grosse surprise c’est Jean-Paul Gaster, batteur de Clutch qui sera derrière les fûts pour ce set! Le musicien nous propose un blues rock qui révèle au grand jour ses qualités de compositeur et d’interprète. Le public écoute religieusement le chanteur et prend clairement une claque, tant les morceaux touchent au cœur! « Highway » ou encore « Already Gone » permettent à Nate Bergman de nous faire voyager avec un son des sons de guitare puissants. On sent que la sauce prend réellement avec le public lillois et « Ode To Manchester » confirme cette impression avec des applaudissements fournis à la fin du morceau. Pour clôturer cette prestation impressionnante, Bergman nous joue son morceau « Into My Arms », véritable merveille de blues rock, qui confirme tout le bien qu’on a pensé de sa prestation! Une vrai belle découverte qu’on vous encourage à aller écouter au plus vite!
Et c’est parti pour le show tant attendu de Clutch! Tim Sult, Dan Maines,Jean-Paul Gaster et Neil Fallon arrivent sur scène devant un public ravi de retrouver un de ses groupes favoris, et démarrent en trombes avec « Slaughter Beach ». Pour cette tournée d’été, le groupe a décidé de naviguer dans sa discographie et proposer des morceaux de nombreux albums, un très beau cadeau offerts aux fans. Neil bouge non stop sur scène tandis que les autres restent relativement statiques, mais cela n’empêche pas la chaleur de monter dans la salle! Le groupe est en pleine forme et le public lillois se délecte du spectacle, il faut dire que chaque note jouée est magnifiée par le talent incomparable des musiciens. « Burning Beard » ou encore « The Regulator » sont accueillis par de larges applaudissements et sont repris en chœur par la salle! Une déferlante rock est en train de s’abattre sur la salle lilloise et on en prend plein la vue! Clutch nous avaient bluffé l’an dernier au Motocultor et ce concert ne fait que confirmer ce coup de cœur! On continue petit à petit de voyager dans les titres cultes de la formation du Maryland avec toujours une place de choix offerte aux morceaux du dernier album en date! Le groupe, actif depuis 1991, n’a clairement pas pris une ride et on les sent toujours aussi heureux d’être sur scène devant nous. La soirée file à toute vitesse, mais le groupe a quand même le temps de nous proposer une belle dose de musique avec pas moins de 17 titres joués ce soir! La fin du show s’annonce, et vu la chaleur dans la pièce on imagine mal le concert durer encore longtemps! Le groupe quitte la scène après un « The Face » magistralement interprété! Ils reviennent pour deux derniers titres, dont l’excellent « The Wolf Man Kindly Request » qui vient clôturer en beauté cette soirée de rock US!
Clutch n’ont plus rien à prouver depuis longtemps, mais ce show nous a encore montrer que la formation américaine a encore de beaux jours devant elle! La performance du quatuor a été mémorable et on repart heureux d’avoir pu assister à un show de cette qualité!

A great evening of rock was in store at the Splendid as American band Clutch stopped off their tour in the northern capital! Needless to say, the audience turned out in force to make sure they didn’t miss a thing of the Americans’ set. To accompany them on this tour, Washington artist Nate Bergman was chosen to warm up the room.

Nate Bergman‘s powerful voice greeted us a cappella and had the Lille venue’s audience on the edge of their seats. The musicians join him, and it’s a big surprise that Jean-Paul Gaster, drummer with Clutch, will also be behind the drums for this set! The musician delivers a blues-rock sound that reveals his qualities as a composer and performer. The audience listened intently to the singer, and clearly got a kick out of the songs, which were so close to the heart! « Highway » and « Already Gone » allow Nate Bergman to take us on a journey with his powerful guitar sounds. The crowd in Lille really got into the swing of things, and « Ode To Manchester » confirmed the impression with a rousing round of applause at the end of the track. To round off this impressive performance, Bergman played his track ‘Into My Arms’, a real blues rock marvel, which confirmed all the good things we thought of his performance! A truly wonderful discovery that we encourage you to go and listen to as soon as possible!
And the long-awaited Clutch show is on! Tim Sult, Dan Maines, Jean-Paul Gaster and Neil Fallon take to the stage in front of an audience thrilled to be back with one of their favourite bands, and kick things off with « Slaughter Beach ». For this summer tour, the band decided to browse through their discography and offer songs from numerous albums, a great gift to their fans. Neil moves non-stop on stage while the others remain relatively static, but that doesn’t stop the heat rising in the room! The band were in top form and the crowd in Lille were in raptures as every note they played was magnified by the incomparable talent of the musicians. « Burning Beard » and « The Regulator » were greeted with rapturous applause and were taken up in chorus by the crowd! A wave of rock is sweeping through the Lille venue, and we’re in for a real treat! Clutch blew us away at last year’s Motocultor, and this concert just confirms that! Little by little, we continue to travel through the Maryland band’s cult tracks, with a special place given over to songs from their latest album! The band, who have been around since 1991, have clearly not aged a bit, and you can feel that they’re still just as happy to be on stage in front of us. The evening flies by, but the band still have time to offer us a great dose of music, with no less than 17 tracks played this evening! It’s almost the end of the show, and given the heat in the room, it’s hard to imagine the concert lasting much longer! The band leave the stage after a masterly rendition of ‘The Face’! They return for two final tracks, including the excellent ‘The Wolf Man Kindly Request’, which brings this evening of US rock to a fitting close!
Clutch haven’t had anything to prove for a long time, but this show showed us once again that the American band still has a bright future ahead of them! The quartet’s performance was memorable, and we went away happy to have witnessed a show of such quality!
