VEXED, groupe anglais formé en 2019, avaient fait forte impression avec leur premier album Culling Culture, cette année ils nous font découvrir leur deuxième album! Intitulé Negative Energy, il est dors et déjà disponible via Napalm Records. Que nous réserve cette nouvelle sortie du trio anglais?

L’intro « PTSD » nous plonge dans avec force dans ce nouvel album du combo anglais, en nous parlant de traumatismes et de reconstruction, avant que « Anti-Fetish » nous montre toute l’étendue du talent de la formation. La voix de Megan Targett est puissante et son scream porte clairement le morceau. Le mélange habile entre riffs bien métal et rythmiques un peu plus saccadées fonctionne à merveille et donne une vraie identité aux morceaux. On est toujours à cheval entre pur métal et influences hip-hop bien visibles. Le single « X my ❤ (Hope To Die) » donne envie d’aller se jeter dans un pit, tout en prenant en pleine face ses paroles puissantes. Les variations vocales et rythmiques, et surtout les breakdowns sont parfaits et montrent que les trois anglais en ont clairement sous le pied! Tout au long de ces premiers titres on peut clairement saluer le jeu de batterie stratosphérique de Willem Mason-Geraghty qui martèle ses fûts! Sur le très énergique « Lay Down Your Flowers », c’est Lochie Keogh de Alfa Wolf qui vient mêler sa voix à celle de Megan pour un des titres les plus marquants de cet album! On enchaine avec toujours cette envie de tout casser sur leur passage, avec des titres comme « Default » ou encore « Trauma Euphoria » qui continuent de me convaincre que j’ai dans les oreilles un des grands groupes de demain! Cette incorporation permanente de sonorités électroniques, de voix trafiquées apporte un vrai plus et donne une véritable impression de nouveauté. Le talent de guitariste de Jay Bacon sont également à saluer! Pendant tout l’album il nous propose un jeu versatile qui donne envie de bouger dans son salon! Si vous aimez les morceaux rapides alors « Extremist » est pour vous! On se demande encore comment on peut suivre le rythme, mais on à la une véritable performance! Les trois derniers titres de l’album ne sont qu’une confirmation de tout ce que j’ai pu dire ici, en particulier avec « It’s Not The End », morceau empli d’émotions et son refrain fait pour les chœurs ! On clôt cette aventure avec l’excellent « Nepotism » qui nous laisse avec l’envie de retourner écouter l’album au plus vite pour en déceler toutes les subtilités.

VEXED ont clairement réussi un tour de force avec ce deuxième album! Negative Energy est varié, d’une puissance folle et fait monter le trio très haut dans la liste des groupes à suivre de très près! On espère pouvoir découvrir le groupe en live au plus vite, et se lancer dans le pit! Un gros coup de cœur qui part sur la liste des albums à se procurer d’urgence!

VEXED, an English band formed in 2019, made a big impression with their debut album Culling Culture, and this year they’re bringing us their second album! Entitled Negative Energy, it’s already available via Napalm Records. What does this new release from the English trio have in store for us?

The intro, « PTSD », plunges us forcefully into the English band’s new album, telling us about trauma and reconstruction, before « Anti-Fetish » shows us the full extent of the band’s talent. Megan Targett’s voice is powerful and her scream clearly carries the track. The skilful mix of metal riffs and jerky rhythms works wonders, giving the tracks a real identity. We’re still straddling the line between pure metal and clearly visible hip-hop influences. The single ‘X my ❤ (Hope To Die)’ makes you want to throw yourself into a pit, while taking in its powerful lyrics. The vocal and rhythmic variations, and above all the breakdowns, are perfect and show that the three Englishmen clearly have it in them! Throughout the first few tracks, Willem Mason-Geraghty‘s stratospheric drumming is clearly to be commended! On the energetic ‘Lay Down Your Flowers’, Lochie Keogh from Alfa Wolf joins Megan in one of the most memorable tracks on the album! The album continues with the same desire to smash everything in their path, with tracks like ‘Default’ and ‘Trauma Euphoria’ continuing to convince me that I’ve got one of tomorrow’s great bands in my ears! The constant incorporation of electronic sounds and doctored vocals is a real plus, and gives a real impression of novelty. Jay Bacon‘s talent as a guitarist is also to be commended! Throughout the album, his versatile playing makes you want to move around your living room! If you like fast tracks then ‘Extremist’ is for you! We’re still wondering how we can keep up with the rhythm, but what we’ve got here is a real performance! The last three tracks on the album just confirm everything I’ve said here, especially « It’s Not The End », a track full of emotion and a chorus made for choirs! We close this adventure with the excellent ‘Nepotism’, which leaves us wanting to go back and listen to the album as soon as possible to discover all its subtleties.

VEXED have clearly pulled off a tour de force with their second album! Negative Energy is varied, insanely powerful and puts the trio high up on the list of bands to keep an eye on! We hope to be able to discover the band live as soon as possible, and get into the pit! It’s a real favourite, and one that’s going on our list of albums to get hold of as a matter of urgency!
