Will Haven, groupe majeur de la scène noise sortent cette année leur septième album, cinq ans après le dernier en date. Sobrement intitulé VII, il est disponible via Minus Head Records depuis le 7 juillet. Le groupe s’est, depuis de nombreuses années, forgé une très belle réputation aussi bien en studio qu’en live. Il est donc temps de se plonger dans cette nouvelle sortie du groupe de Sacramento.

La voix de Grady Avenell et la batterie de Mitch Wheeler nous accueillent dans « Luna » avant que des guitares puissantes viennent rejoindre la partie. Le groupe mélangeant toujours habillement le hardcore et un son noisy reconnaissable entre mille vient frapper fort avec cette nouvelle sortie. Les ambiances lentes se mêlent aux sons destructeurs sur l’excellent « 5 Of Fire »! Les guitares de Jeff Irwin et Anthony Paganelli mélangent des sons qu’on a pas l’habitude de voir cohabiter, à part chez Will Haven, et nous font hésiter entre headbang lent ou mosh pit effréné. Sur « Evolution Of A Man » c’est Reyka Osburn du groupe Death Valley High qui vient mêler sa voix à celle de Grady pour un titre étonnant de part ses sonorités et son mélange des genres assumé. Tout au long de ces premiers titres c’est la qualité du jeu de basse de Adrien Contreras, qui arrive toujours à nous retourner avec un son gras à souhaits qui vient résonner au plus profond de nous. « Wings Of Mariposa » est une merveille sonore comme il en existe trop peu dans ce bas monde. On a l’impression que Grady s’égosille pour nous transmettre toute la douleur et les émotions qui voyagent en lui. Quant à nos émotions elles sont triturées par les musiciens jusqu’à nous faire oublier ce qu’on ressentait au morceau précédent. Impossible de ne pas être touché au cœur par le magnifique « Feeding The Soil » ou encore le dernier titre « La Ultima Nota », fin parfaite d’un album qui nous a clairement confirmer le statut à part du groupe américain.
Will Haven ont montré une fois encore leur puissance avec VII! On ne saurait que vous conseiller de vous jeter sur cet album qui regorge de morceaux de bravoure et d’une intensité émotionnelle dingue! On peut vous dire que cet album va se loger bien haut dans le top de l’année, et qu’il va tourner en boucle! Un album demandant mais qui ne vous laissera clairement pas indifférent!

Will Haven, a major band on the noise scene, are releasing their seventh album this year, five years after their last. Soberly entitled VII, it has been available via Minus Head Records since 7 July. Over the years, the band have built up a fine reputation both in the studio and live. So it’s time to get to grips with this new release from the Sacramento band.
Grady Avenell’s vocals and Mitch Wheeler‘s drums welcome us into ‘Luna’ before powerful guitars join in. The band, who always skilfully blend hardcore with their instantly recognisable noisy sound, hit back hard with this new release. Slow atmospheres mingle with destructive sounds on the excellent ‘5 Of Fire’! Jeff Irwin and Anthony Paganelli‘s guitars blend sounds that we’re not used to seeing together, apart from Will Haven, and make us hesitate between slow headbanging and frantic mosh pits. On ‘Evolution Of A Man’, Reyka Osburn from Death Valley High mixes her vocals with Grady‘s for a track that’s astonishing for its sound and its mix of genres. Throughout the first few tracks, it’s the quality of Adrien Contreras‘s bass playing that always manages to turn us over with a fat sound that resonates deep within us. « Wings Of Mariposa’ is a sonic marvel the like of which there are too few in this world. It’s as if Grady is shouting himself hoarse, trying to convey all the pain and emotion he’s feeling. As for our emotions, they are stirred up by the musicians until we forget what we were feeling on the previous track. It’s impossible not to be moved to the heart by the magnificent ‘Feeding The Soil’ or the final track, ‘La Ultima Nota’, the perfect end to an album that clearly confirms the American band’s status as something special.
Will Haven have once again shown their power with VII! We can’t recommend you enough for this album, which is packed with bravura tracks and insane emotional intensity! We can tell you that this album is going to be high on the list of the year, and that it’s going to be played over and over again! A demanding album, but one that clearly won’t leave you indifferent!
