Sevendust arrivent chez Napalm Records avec leur quatorzième album en cette fin juillet. Intitulé Truth Killer il vient prendre la suite de l’excellent Blood & Stone sorti il y a trois ans. L’album est dors et déjà disponible, et nous allons nous y plonger dedans pour voir ce que les américains vont nous proposer sur ce nouveau projet.

Des beats électro nous accueillent dans « I Might Let The Devil In » puis la voix de Lajon Witherspoons nous montre toute sa puissance. Le titre monte en puissance quasi tout du long tout en conservant ce côté très électronique. Puis dans la dernière partie, les guitare et la batterie font leur apparition et nous annoncent la décharge musicale à venir. Le groupe américain est là pour nous montrer que, plus de 25 ans après leur premier album, ils sont toujours un des groupes majeurs de la scène métal mondiale. Les guitares de Clint Lowery et John Connolly sont toujours aussi puissantes et nous font bouger dans notre salon. La force du groupe a toujours résidé dans sa capacité à créer des titres qui restent instantanément en tête, et ce nouvel opus ne déroge pas à la règle. Les deux guitaristes apportent également leurs voix puissantes dans les chœurs qu’on peut entendre sur une grande partie des morceaux, avec même quelques parties de scream pointant le bout de leur nez! Morgan Rose impressionne derrière sa batteire avec des rythmiques absolument imparables, comme sur « No Revolution ». A l’écoute de « Holly Water » et « Superficial Drug » on comprend pourquoi ses titres ont été choisis pour représenter l’album avant sa sortie, tant ils représentent le talent de composition des américains. Les lignes de basse de Vince Hornsby arrivent tout au long de l’écoute à nous surprendre en nous faisaint headbanger en continu. On sent qu’un gros travail a été fait pour que cet album apporte encore du nouveau dans la discographie déjà extensive du groupe, et c’est réussi! Le dernier morceau, « Fence » est une véritable bombe énergique qui clôt cette album en nous laissant l’envie d’aller bouger dans le pit une dernière fois!
Avec Truth Killer, les américains de Sevendust ne font que conforter une place de choix dans la scène métal américaine. Les morceaux de cet album frappent fort et montrent que la créativité est toujours à l’ordre du jour. L’album plaira sans aucun doute aux fans de la première heure, mais il saura convaincre aussi ceux qui prendraient le train en marche.

Sevendust arrive on Napalm Records at the end of July with their fourteenth album. Entitled Truth Killer, it follows on from the excellent Blood & Stone released three years ago. The album is already available, and we’re going to dive right in to see what the Americans have in store for us on this new project.
Electro beats welcome us into « I Might Let The Devil In », then Lajon Witherspoons‘ voice shows all its power. The track builds in power almost all the way through, while retaining a very electronic feel. Then, in the last part, the guitars and drums make their appearance, heralding the musical explosion to come. The American band is here to show us that, more than 25 years after their first album, they are still one of the major bands on the world metal scene. Clint Lowery and John Connolly‘s guitars are as powerful as ever, keeping us moving in our living rooms. The band’s strength has always been their ability to create songs that stick in your head instantly, and this new album is no exception. The two guitarists also bring their powerful voices to bear on the backing vocals, which can be heard on most of the tracks, with even a few scream parts thrown in for good measure! Morgan Rose impresses behind his drum kit with some absolutely unstoppable rhythms, as on ‘No Revolution’. Listening to « Holly Water » and « Superficial Drug », it’s easy to see why these tracks were chosen to represent the album before its release, such is the American’s songwriting talent. Vince Hornsby‘s bass lines manage to surprise us all the way through, making us headbang non-stop. It’s clear that a great deal of work has gone into making this album a new addition to the band’s already extensive discography, and it succeeds! The final track, ‘Fence’, is a real energetic bombshell that brings the album to a close, leaving us wanting to get down in the pit one last time!
With Truth Killer, the Americans from Sevendust have only strengthened their position on the American metal scene. The tracks on this album hit hard and show that creativity is still the order of the day. The album will undoubtedly appeal to die-hard fans, but it will also win over those who are just jumping on the bandwagon.
