Après plusieurs EP, un album en 2019 et une mixtape en 2021, le groupe Yonaka nous propose cette année un nouvel EP. Intitulé Welcome To My House, il est disponible depuis aujourd’hui via Republic Records. Le groupe de Brighton est une de mes très belles découvertes lives, confirmée par leur prestation au Cabaret Sauvage à Paris en février dernier. Il me tarde donc de découvrir les nouveaux morceaux, dont deux ont déjà été joué en live sur la tournée à la quelle j’ai pu assister.

L’intro du premier morceau annonce des nouvelles compositions toujours aussi dansantes. Puis la voix de Theresa Jarvis arrive, et la chanteuse nous montre qu’elle n’a rien perdu de son énergie. Le groupe anglais a toujours su proposer des morceaux emplis de bonnes ondes tout en parlant de sujets complexes comme le rejet, les anxiétés ou les crises de panique. Le second morceau, déjà entendu en live au concert parisien, confirme l’excellente santé du combo de Brighton. George Edwards (guitare), Alex Crosby (basse) et Robert Mason (batterie) sont également en grande forme et font des titres de cet EP de véritables hymnes pop rock qui restent en tête dès la première écoute. Le morceau titre est un titre puissant sur la santé mentale et la manière dont elle impacte nos vies et notre comportement.
Ce nouvel EP des anglais continue avec une envie de nous faire bouger clairement présente, mais l’émotion reste toujours présente comme sur « Give Me My Halo » et son piano très doux. Sur ce morceau la voix de Theresa se fait plus puissante que jamais. Le dernier titre est une véritable décharge de décibels qui nous laisse avec une folle envie de danser et qui clôt en beauté cette nouvelle sortie.
Welcome To My House, est une nouvelle preuve que Yonaka sont présents pour de bon sur la scène anglaise et internationale. Cet EP est une nouvelle très belle sortie des anglais et nous laisse avec le souhait de les retrouver en live au plus vite!

After several EPs, an album in 2019 and a mixtape in 2021, the group Yonaka is offering us a new EP this year. Entitled Welcome To My House, it is available today via Republic Records. The Brighton band is one of my great live discoveries, confirmed by their performance at Cabaret Sauvage in Paris last February. I can’t wait to discover the new tracks, two of which have already been played live on the tour I attended.
The intro to the first track heralds new compositions that are as danceable as ever. Then Theresa Jarvis‘s voice comes in, and the singer shows us that she hasn’t lost any of her energy. The English band has always been able to offer songs full of good vibes while talking about complex subjects such as rejection, anxiety and panic attacks. The second track, already heard live at the Paris concert, confirms the Brighton band’s excellent health. George Edwards (guitar), Alex Crosby (bass) and Robert Mason (drums) are also in fine form, turning the tracks on this EP into veritable pop rock anthems that stay in your head from the first listen. The title track is a powerful song about mental health and how it impacts our lives and behaviour.
This new EP from the English band continues with a clear desire to get us moving, but the emotion is still there, as on ‘Give Me My Halo’ and its gentle piano. On this track, Theresa‘s voice is more powerful than ever. The final track is a veritable decibel blast, leaving us with a mad desire to dance and bringing this new release to a fitting close.
Welcome To My House is further proof that Yonaka are on the UK and international scene for good. This EP is another fine release from the English band, and leaves us wishing we could see them live again as soon as possible!
