Public Image LTD, groupe de post punk formé par John Lyndon après la dissolution des Sex Pistols revient cette année avec son onzième album studio. Intitulé End Of World, il est disponible chez PiL Official LTD via Cargo UK Distribution. Que nous réserve le quatuor anglais pour cette nouvelle sortie qui aura mis huit ans à arriver à nos oreilles?

Le quatuor nous fait rentrer dans ce nouvel album avec « Penge », morceau qui montre encore que le mélange des genres cher au groupe est toujours bien présent. La voix de John Lyndon est toujours aussi puissante et porte parfaitement les compositions. Les guitares de Lu Edmonds ont ce son si particulier qu’on les reconnait à des kilomètres à la ronde. « End Of The World » représente bien ça avec une multitude de sonorités différentes qui ne cessent de surprendre. L’intro de basse vibrante de « Being Stupid Again » nous montre que Scott Firth est également au sommet de sa forme. En quelques titres les anglais ont déjà conquis nos cœur avec cette nouvelle sortie et ça ne fait que commencer! Les claviers sont présents en nombre sur l’album et là aussi on vous laisse observer la variété des sons et autres effets proposés. A chaque titre on se demande ce que le quatuor va bien pouvoir trouver pour nous étonner, et c’est avec une facilité déconcertante qu’ils le font à chaque instant. Scott Firth et sa basse forment un duo de choix avec Bruce Smith et sa batterie. Impossible de ne pas se dandiner dans son salon sur des titres comme « Walls » ou encore « To Do That ». Chaque minute de cette album est un enchantement pour les oreilles, que ça soit côté composition ou côté mélanges des genres. En fin de l’album nous avons le droit au déchirant « Hawaii » évoquant le décès de la femme du chanteur après une bataille contre la maladie d’Alzheimer. Une fin qui contraste avec le côté musical très enjoué du reste de l’album, mais qui vient nous chercher dans l’émotion brute.
Avec End Of World, Pulbic Image LTD. nous montrent que toutes ces années de travail ont portées leur fruit. L’album est une merveille de variété, même si on peux entendre que pour d’autres il sera très difficile d’accès. Mais de notre côté il nous a totalement conquis, et donner envie de foncer voir le groupe en live sur la future tournée européenne. John « Rotten » Lyndon et sa bande n’ont rien perdu de leur superbe et cet album en est une magnifique preuve!

Public Image LTD, the post-punk band formed by John Lyndon after the break-up of the Sex Pistols, are back this year with their eleventh studio album. Entitled End Of World, it is available from PiL Official LTD via Cargo UK Distribution. What do the English quartet have in store for us on this new release, which has taken eight years to reach our ears?
The quartet’s new album kicks off with ‘Penge’, a track that once again demonstrates the band’s penchant for mixing genres. John Lyndon‘s voice is as powerful as ever and carries the compositions perfectly. Lu Edmonds‘ guitars have such a distinctive sound that you can recognise them from a mile away. « End Of The World » is a good example of this, with a multitude of different sounds that never cease to surprise. The vibrant bass intro to « Being Stupid Again » shows that Scott Firth is also in top form. In just a few tracks, the English have already won our hearts with this new release, and that’s only the beginning! Keyboards feature heavily on the album, and here too we leave you to observe the variety of sounds and effects on offer. With each track, you wonder what the quartet will come up with to surprise us, and it’s with disconcerting ease that they do it at every moment. Scott Firth and his bass form an excellent duo with Bruce Smith and his drums. It’s impossible not to waddle around your living room to tracks like ‘Walls’ and ‘To Do That’. Every minute of this album is an enchantment for the ears, whether in terms of composition or the blending of genres. At the end of the album we are treated to the heart-rending ‘Hawaii’, a song about the death of the singer’s wife after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. It’s an ending that contrasts with the light-hearted musicality of the rest of the album, but one that draws us in with raw emotion.
With End Of World, Pulbic Image LTD. show us that all those years of hard work have paid off. The album is a marvel of variety, even if we can hear that for others it will be very difficult to access. But for us, it’s totally won us over, and will make us want to go and see the band live on their forthcoming European tour. John ‘Rotten’ Lyndon and his band have lost none of their superbness, and this album is magnificent proof of that!
