En 2004 les américains de Hawthorne Heights dévoilaient leur premier album et au fil des années ils sont devenus un nom incontournable de la scène emo mondiale. Quasi vingt ans plus tard, ils nous proposent encore régulièrement des nouveaux albums qui s’inscrivent parfaitement dans leur discographie. Aujourd’hui c’est un nouvel EP, intitulé Lost Lights que le groupe nous propose de découvrir. Et il est disponible dès maintenant via Pure Noise Records.

On commence avec « The Storm » qui montre que le groupe a encore de belles mélodies dans sa besace. La voix reconnaissable entre mille de JT Woodruff est puissante et transmet toujours autant d’émotions. Mark Mc Millon (guitare) et Matt Ridenour (basse) donnent tout côté chœurs et l’ensemble fonctionne à merveille. L’énergie des quatre américains continue de bluffer d’années en années, les morceaux sont toujours aussi entêtants et bien composés. Les breaks de Chris Popadak, impeccable derrière sa batterie, vous donnent envie de vous lancer dans un pit dans votre salon. Les années 2000 sont définitivement bien représentées avec « Lucerne Valley ». On y replonge avec envie et avec cette passion qui ne nous a jamais quitté. On termine sur « We Were Never Lost », qui représente parfaitement ce que cet EP représente: une plongée dans notre adolescence avec des morceaux entre énergie et douce nostalgie. Un pur bonheur qui file malheureusement beaucoup trop vite.
Hawthorne Heights sont toujours dans les artistes emo les plus influents de ces vingt dernières années et Lost Lights le prouve une fois encore. On s’est replongé dans nos aventures avec les américains au cœur de l’Ohio avec un grand plaisir. Et on finira sur cette phrase qui n’a jamais été aussi vrai qu’avec cet EP: « Sorry Mom, that was never a phase »!

In 2004, the Americans from Hawthorne Heights unveiled their first album, and over the years they have become a key name on the global emo scene. Almost twenty years on, they are still regularly releasing new albums that fit in perfectly with their discography. Today, it’s the band’s new EP, Lost Lights, that we’re about to discover. And it’s available now via Pure Noise Records.
We start with « The Storm », which shows that the band still have some great melodies up their sleeve. JT Woodruff‘s unmistakable voice is powerful and as emotional as ever. Mark Mc Millon (guitar) and Matt Ridenour (bass) give their all on backing vocals, and the whole thing works like a charm. The energy of these four Americans continues to impress year after year, and the songs are as heady and well composed as ever. Chris Popadak‘s breaks, impeccable behind the drums, make you want to throw yourself into a pit in your living room. The 2000s are definitely well represented on ‘Lucerne Valley’. You’re drawn back to it with envy and the same passion that has never left us. We’ll finish with ‘We Were Never Lost’, which perfectly represents what this EP is all about: a dive into our teenage years, with tracks combining energy and gentle nostalgia. It’s pure bliss, but all too quickly.
Hawthorne Heights are still among the most influential emo artists of the last twenty years, and Lost Lights prove it once again. It was a great pleasure for us to get back to our adventures with the Americans in the heart of Ohio. And we’ll end with a phrase that’s never been truer than with this EP: « Sorry Mom, that was never a phase »!
