Après quatre EP largement encensés, une tournée en première partie de Carpenter Brut et une tournée headline ayant fait le plein, Sierra nous propose cette année de découvrir son premier album studio. Intitulé A Story Of Anger, il sera disponible le 15 septembre via Virgin Records. Amateurs de dark wave et d’electro ou auditeurs curieux, venez plonger avec nous dans l’univers de l’artiste française.

« Never Right » nous avait déjà fortement marqué il y a quelques semaines lors de sa sortie. Le morceau sombre et envoutant nous plonge dans cet album sans effort et nous dévoile déjà le grand talent de la compositrice et interprète française. On se laisse happer par les claviers doux en intro et les paroles puissantes et très personnelles de « Stronger ».

S’en suit la première collaboration de cet album, et c’est l’artiste israélien Corvad qui vient la rejoindre sur un titre ultra sombre mais très dansant. Les deux artistes mêlent leurs univers sans effort pour un morceau qui nous hypnotise dès la première écoute. Puis on enchaîne avec le second invité qui n’est autre que Carpenter Brut! « Power » nous laisse sans voix tant la fusion entre les deux musiciens est évidente. Impossible de ne pas se repasser ce titre en boucle tant il est une véritable œuvre commune de deux artistes qu’on adore!

La douceur envoutante de « Traum » se retrouve dans le morceau composé avec le groupe américain Health. On aurait pu croire à une décharge d’énergie quand on connaît le noise rock indus du groupe, mais il n’en est rien! Sierra et Health nous envoutent dans un titre lent mais toujours conçu pour nous faire bouger. Le « Club 21 » nous ouvre ensuite ses portes avant que « Your Shadow » vienne nous recouvrir de ses rythmiques dansantes à souhait. Enfin « So Blind » clôture l’album avec une nouvelle fois un mélange de sonorités assez dingue qui nous laisse sur une excellente note.

Sierra impressionnait déjà par le passé avec ses EP tous plus réussi les uns que les autres. A Story Of Anger est un passage réussit au long format. On sent l’envie de l’artiste de nous crier sa colère en musique tout en nous faisant danser par la même occasion. Une vraie réussite qui saura plaire aux amateurs ainsi qu’à ceux prêts à voyager dans des contrés inexplorées. La darkwave a de belles heures devant elle entre les mains de Sierra.

« Never Right » made a big impression on us when it was released a few weeks ago. The dark, bewitching track plunges us effortlessly into this album, already revealing the great talent of the French singer-songwriter. The soft keyboards in the intro and the powerful, highly personal lyrics of ‘Stronger’ are a real ear-catcher.

The album’s first collaboration follows, with Israeli artist Corvad joining her on an ultra-dark yet danceable track. The two artists blend their worlds effortlessly to produce a track that hypnotises you from the first listen. Then it’s on to the second guest, none other than Carpenter Brut! « Power’ leaves you speechless, such is the fusion between the two musicians. It’s impossible not to play this track over and over again, as it’s a real joint work by two artists we adore!

The bewitching gentleness of ‘Traum’ is echoed in the track written in collaboration with the American band Health. You’d think it would be a burst of energy when you’re familiar with the band’s indus noise rock, but it’s nothing of the sort! Sierra and Health take us under their spell in a track that’s slow but always designed to get us moving. Club 21″ then opens its doors before « Your Shadow » covers us with its danceable rhythms. Finally, ‘So Blind’ closes the album with another crazy mix of sounds that leaves us on an excellent note.

Sierra has already impressed in the past with her EPs, each more successful than the last. A Story Of Anger is a successful transition to long format. You can feel the artist’s desire to cry out his anger in music, while making us dance at the same time. It’s a real success, sure to please fans and those ready to travel to unexplored lands. Darkwave has a bright future ahead of it in Sierra‘s hands.
