Après un EP en juin 2020, des premières parties de It It Anita ou Thalia Zedek et des dates en France et en Europe, le groupe de post punk français Unspkble nous propose de découvrir son premier album. Intitulé Reconstruction, il sera disponible le 22 septembre prochain via Rejuvenation Records, Assos’y’song, Day Off Records, Icy Cold Records, Araki Records et Kerviniou Recordz. Vu la diversité des genres dans lesquels les musiciens ont pu faire leurs armes, on peut s’attendre à un album étonnant, nous allons donc nous y plonger de ce pas.

Les sonorités de « All Stories Told », le post-punk est bien au cœur de cet album, mais on sent déjà une envie de s’affranchir d’une classification unique. La voix de Dion Lax, vocaliste britannique, nous emporte dès les premières lignes de chant, et ne casse de surprendre titre après titres avec ce timbre grave. Pas besoin de vous dire que les thèmes d’actualité sont au coeur des morceaux quand on lit les titres de certains morceaux: « Global Emergency » ou « Struggle (Crush The Elite) » en sont des exemples frappants. La basse de Greg Reju et et la batterie de Seb Dodus se répondent tout au long de l’album en ajoutant au post punk ambiant des touches de goth rock et de noise rock bienvenues. « Sacrifice » et « The Path » donnent d’ailleurs à Greg l’occasion de nous balancer des lignes de basse dantesques, qui vont nous rester en tête longtemps!
Le son de l’album frappe par sa clarté et on hésite pas à se lever de notre chaise pour danser sur les rythmiques endiablées des compositions. Gom Pilote nous enchante avec son travail des guitares et des synthés, surtout sur l’excellent « Expectations ». On découvre là un groupe qui impressionne par sa capacité à traiter de thèmes très actuels dans une musique gardant ces sonorités propres au genre mais avec ce twist qui vient toujours surprendre l’auditeur.
« Running Out » et « Hello » sont deux titres parfaits pour clore l’album. L’un est un appel à se battre pour nos idées et nos valeurs lorsque d’autres cherchent à nous faire douter, et l’autre un appel à libérer nos esprits des tracas du quotidien et de l’asservissement du monde du travail via la danse et la musique. Deux thèmes biens punk servis par une musique de grande qualité et une voix à faire chavirer les cœurs.
Unspkble impressionnent avec Reconstruction! L’album se classe en haut de notre liste de très belles découvertes de l’année, et on espère fort que le groupe passera en région lilloise très rapidement. Amateurs de post punk, de punk, de noise et curieux foncez sur cet album qui a toutes les chances d’amener le groupe toujours plus loin! On vous préviens, l’album va tourner en boucle à la maison!

Following an EP in June 2020, support slots for It It Anita and Thalia Zedek, and shows in France and Europe, French post-punk band Unspkble have released their debut album. Entitled Reconstruction, it will be available on 22 September via Rejuvenation Records, Assos’y’song, Day Off Records, Icy Cold Records, Araki Records and Kerviniou Recordz. Given the diversity of genres in which the musicians have cut their teeth, we can expect an astonishing album, so let’s dive right in.
The sounds of « All Stories Told », post-punk is at the heart of this album, but you can already sense a desire to break away from a single classification. British vocalist Dion Lax‘s voice takes us away from the very first lines, and continues to surprise track after track with its deep timbre. No need to tell you that topical themes are at the heart of the songs when you read the titles of certain tracks: « Global Emergency » and « Struggle (Crush The Elite) » are striking examples. Greg Reju‘s bass and Seb Dodus‘s drums respond to each other throughout the album, adding welcome touches of goth rock and noise rock to the ambient post-punk. « Sacrifice » and « The Path » give Greg a chance to throw down some killer bass lines that will stay with us for a long time!
The sound of the album is strikingly clear, and you don’t hesitate to get out of your chair and dance to the frenzied rhythms of the compositions. Gom Pilote delight us with their guitar and synth work, especially on the excellent ‘Expectations’. This is a band that impresses with its ability to deal with highly topical themes in music that retains the genre’s signature sounds, but with a twist that always comes as a surprise to the listener.
« Running Out » and « Hello » are two perfect tracks to close the album. One is a call to fight for our ideas and values when others seek to make us doubt them, and the other a call to free our minds from the worries of everyday life and the enslavement of the working world through dance and music. Two very punk themes served up by top-quality music and a voice that will make your heart skip a beat.
Unspkble impress with Reconstruction! The album is top of our list of great discoveries of the year, and we hope the band will be playing in the Lille region very soon. Fans of post-punk, punk, noise and the curious should go for this album, which has every chance of taking the band even further! We warn you, the album will be playing on repeat at home!
