Fin de notre trio de dates à l’Aéronef avec un concert qu’on attendait de pied ferme. On nous a vanté les mérites de Mutoid Man qu’on a hâte de découvrir, mais nous sommes impatients de retrouver Psychonaut après deux concerts inoubliables plus tôt cette année. La salle affiche complet ce soir et on va très vite comprendre pourquoi! On vous raconte tout aujourd’hui!

Pour commencer la soirée Psychonaut arrivent sur scène, en rangs très resserrés pour une prestation encore plus prenante. « Halls Of Amenti » nous lance dans l’univers des belges. Le trio ne cesse de nous surprendre concert après concert avec une émotion présente en force aussi bien musicalement qu’au niveau des paroles. Le public lillois se laisse happer par la prestation dingue qui nous est offerte ce soir. Stefan de Graef (guitare), Thomas Michiels (basse) et Harm Peters (batterie) enchaînent deux gros morceaux, « All Our Gods Have Gone » et « Violate Consensus Relaity », deux raisons de plus de laisser nos esprits divaguer en profitant de chaque note jouée. L’ambiance est majestueuse et le reste du set ne fait que confirmer ce sentiment constant d’avoir un groupe de légende en face de nous. L’accueil est à la hauteur de la prestation et « The Fall Of Conciousness » clôt cette performance mémorable avec une dernière dose de post métal d’anthologie. Le groupe quitte la scène largement applaudi en nous remerciant chaleureusement pour l’accueil reçu.
Une fois encore Psychonaut nous envoutent, nous emportent et nous subjuguent. On ne se lasse pas une seconde de les retrouver dès que possible. Ce set aura cimenté notre admiration musicale et humaine pour eux et on se dit qu’on se redonnerait bien une nouvelle occasion de les retrouver avant la fin de l’année! Peut-être le 29 décembre prochain à Eke en Belgique?
La légende Mutoid Man débarque sur scène avec de grands sourires sur les visages des trois musiciens. Dès « Call Of The Void » on sent qu’il va nous falloir une dose d’énergie folle pour résister à la tornade américaine. Stephen Brodsky maîtrise autant le chant, la guitare et la communication avec le public. Quel plaisir de voir un front man aussi jovial et aussi impliqué dans sa prestation. Chaque titre est une décharge métal, punk et tout un tas d’autres genres qui nous viennent en tête. Le duo rythmique formé par Ben Koller (batterie) et Jeff Matz (basse) ne cesse de nous surprendre titre après titre. Ben est un véritable showman qui n’hésite pas à blaguer avec le public entre les morceaux tout en étant un véritable métronome tout au long de la prestation. Sur « Kiss Of Death » le groupe nous offre une petite intro en hommage à King Crimson et leur titre « 21st Century Schizoïd Man », un cadeau qu’on a adoré recevoir. Les pogos ne cessent de s’amplifier tout au long du set et Stephen commence à dire que le public lillois est en meilleur forme que les londoniens la veille. Les derniers titres confirmeront ses dires, l’énergie lâchée aussi bien sur scène que dans le public semble sans limite. On se dit qu’on assiste de loin à un des meilleurs shows de l’année et « Gnarcissit » va définitivement cimenter cette idée dans nos têtes.
Le groupe reviendra largement rappelé par tout le public et nous offrira deux titres supplémentaires. Une reprise étonnante et détonante de « Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood » de Nina Simone et une dernière lame de fond sur « 1000 Mile Stare » pour nous laisser totalement lessivés.
Mutoid Man ont largement honoré leur statut de légendes! Ce concert aura été une véritable révélation musicale, et on se dit qu’on aurait pas pu espérer meilleure occasion de sauter dans le train américain. On va se souvenir longtemps de cette soirée et on imagine que ça sera le cas pour tout le public présent ce soir. Un samedi soir comme on les aime : de la bonne musique et des copains, que demander de plus!

Our trio of dates at L’Aéronef comes to an end with a concert we’ve been eagerly awaiting. We’ve heard the praises of Mutoid Man, who we can’t wait to discover, but we’re impatient to see Psychonaut again after two unforgettable concerts earlier this year. The venue is sold out tonight, and we’re about to find out why! We’ll tell you all about it today!

To kick off the evening, Psychonaut take to the stage in a tightly packed line-up for an even more gripping performance. « Halls Of Amenti » launches us into the world of the Belgians. The trio never cease to surprise us, gig after gig, with their strong emotion, both musically and lyrically. The audience in Lille was swept away by the insane performance on offer this evening. Stefan de Graef (guitar), Thomas Michiels (bass) and Harm Peters (drums) follow on from each other with two big tracks, « All Our Gods Have Gone » and « Violate Consensus Relaity », two more reasons to let our minds wander as we enjoy every note played. The atmosphere is majestic and the rest of the set only confirms the constant feeling of having a legendary band in front of us. The reception was equal to the performance, and « The Fall Of Conciousness » brought this memorable performance to a close with a final dose of post-metal anthology. The band leave the stage to rapturous applause, thanking us warmly for the welcome they’ve received.
Once again, Psychonaut captivate us, sweep us off our feet and captivate us. We can’t wait to see them again as soon as possible. This set has cemented our musical and human admiration for them, and we’re thinking we’d like to see them again before the end of the year! Maybe on 29 December at Eke in Belgium?
The Mutoid Man legend takes to the stage with big smiles on the faces of the three musicians. From ‘Call Of The Void’ onwards, it’s clear that we’re going to need an insane amount of energy to resist this American tornado. Stephen Brodsky is a master of vocals, guitar and communication with the audience. What a pleasure to see such a jovial front man so involved in his performance. Each track is a discharge of metal, punk and a whole host of other genres that come to mind. The rhythm duo of Ben Koller (drums) and Jeff Matz (bass) never cease to surprise us track after track. Ben is a real showman, never hesitating to joke with the audience between songs, while remaining a veritable metronome throughout the performance. On « Kiss Of Death », the band played a little intro in tribute to King Crimson and their song « 21st Century Schizoid Man », a gift we loved receiving. The pogos continued to grow throughout the set and Stephen began to say that the Lille crowd were in better shape than the Londoners the day before. The last few tracks confirmed this, and the energy unleashed both on stage and in the audience seemed boundless. It was clear that this was one of the best shows of the year, and « Gnarcissit » definitely cemented this idea in our heads.
The band came back, much to the audience’s delight, with two more tracks. An astonishing cover of Nina Simone‘s « Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood » and a final blast of « 1000 Mile Stare » to leave us totally exhausted.
Mutoid Man more than lived up to their legendary status! This concert was a real musical revelation, and we can’t think of a better opportunity to jump on the American bandwagon. We’ll remember this evening for a long time to come, and we imagine the same will be true of everyone in the audience. A Saturday night just the way we like it: good music and friends, what more could you ask for?
