Après une nuit qui restera sûrement dans les annales de la Oi! Made in France tellement ça a envoyé du lourd, on a remis la sauce du samedi car on en voulait encore et toujours. Même si comme on le dit souvent, pour certains d’entre nous on a plus 20 ans, on aurait pu être sûr de voir à une armée de zombies arriver tellement hier ça avait carburé au houblon et à de la bonne Oi! des bas-fonds… Mais rien de tout ça, même malgré ceux qui étaient les plus faiblards et patraques, les aficionados du genre avaient toujours une sacrée patate, près à rebouger la tête jusqu’à s’en tordre dans la rate !

Et c’est reparti pour une nouvelle journée de folie avec Squelette, simple, efficace, direct dans ta tête, y’a pas à dire, ça c’est du Squelette ! De la bonne Oi! traditionnelle à la Parisienne qui fait toujours autant effet. A jamais dans l’action et l’efficacité, les Parisiens se sont emparés de leur étendard pour le planter sur scène et envoyer leur poigne amère rageuse et percutante à coup de riffs aussi aiguisés, inflexibles et acérés les uns que les autres pour le plus grand plaisir de nos oreilles à peine remise de cette folle soirée d’un vendredi azimuté mais ou l’on a tellement pris notre pied. Et quoi de mieux que d’émerger tranquillement mais sûrement dans un atterrissage forcé à nous ouvrir les yeux sur cette froide réalité, dont la musique réveillerait chaque squelettes des catacombes de ce bon vieux Panam jusqu’au dernier os! Le combo de Chris et sa bande de jeunes loups de mer, sentent bien plus les bons gros pavés Parisiens « dans ta tête! » que l’écume de Noirmoutier, pour notre plus grand bonheur histoire de souffler un grand coup pour décrasser nos têtes d’enfarinés!

Des Skinheads en Survet ? Auront-ils tous des survets ? C’était la grande question que tout le monde se posait ! Et non, Survet Skins étaient bien plus en t-shirt, chemise rock n’ roll, voir torse-poil qu’en survet, mais l’esprit « Survet Street » était bien là. Ca sentait bon les ambiances de matchs de foot, de bars entre copains et les soirées jusqu’au p’tit matin. La nuit commençait à tomber, les esprits à s’échauffer et Survet Skins étaient là pour nous envoyer la purée et nous assurer un show de toute beauté! Ambiance ambiance, les morceaux s’enchainaient et le public en redemandait, en chantant tous en cœur les refrains de leurs jeunes années!

Béton Armé ou un pavé dans la marre. Après Survet Skins, les gens arrivent en masse et se serrent en rang d’oignons pour voir les Québécois, oignons passés bientôt à la Moulinex tellement le carnage se sentait proche. En voyant les premières vagues de fougue du groupe, on s’entait que ça allait littéralement être un cataclysme nucléaire sur terre, merci les gars, bienvenu en enfer! Ou plutôt au paradis car Béton Armé nous a enchainé leurs morceaux en se déchainant d’une hargne, d’une rage et d’une énergie brute à mettre la plus grosse claques au catcheur le plus virulent de sa catégorie poid lourd pour le terminer par un K.O. La marée humaine se serrait pour ne former qu’une seule masse, en sautant et se déchainant aux rythmes de leurs sons abruptes « rendre dedans ». Béton Armé ne passent pas par quatre chemins, c’est de la Oi! PURE et DURE, du direct frontal pour t’envoyer le cerveau à l’hôpital ou carrément aux urgences absolues au service réanimation, et Dieu sait que c’est bon !

Entre deux groupes de Oi!, une petite pause de Punk à l’ancienne s’impose…! Le groupe formé à Londres en 80 est toujours sur les routes pour nous injecter sa bonne dose de riffs de gratte à base de perfectos cloutés et cette « fuck off » attitude à l’Anglaise qu’on aime tant. Les gaillards ont commencé leur show avec leur célèbre « Emergency » pour continuer avec tant de titres cultes qui ont ravis les fans de la première heure. Lee Wilson mettait le feu en balançant son « essence vocale » sur un public déchainé qui en voulait toujours plus. On pouvait apercevoir les premiers pogos se former, puis s’était parti pour un festival d’énergie et de punch qui faisait naitre les premières sourires sur des visages radieux, tout simplement heureux d’être là et de pouvoir assister au show des copains d’INFA RIOT! C’est à ce moment là qu’on a vraiment commencé à oublier la fatigue de la veille pour les plus téméraires d’entre nous, et c’était reparti à l’ancienne, comme l’impression un instant d’être revenu dans ces bonnes vieilles années 80, et ça nous faisait tellement de bien !

 

En parlant d’avoir fait fort la veille, Wattie et sa bande sont revenu en force, en assurant deux soirs d’affilés, la veille du vendredi avec MARABOOTS pour une première mise en bouche, et du samedi avec les très attendus LION’S LAW.
Le clou de ce festival principalement dédiée à la Oi! avant de terminer cette soirée grandiose était dû à un public déchainé qui scandait leurs refrains tous en chœur avec une poigne de malade. C’était beau, magistrale et ça mettait du baume au cœur comme un Cœur de Lion dopé à la testostérone de la Oi! Les lions nous ont offert un show magnifique, tout en puissance, qui sentait bon la fierté la force et les ruelles de Paris City sous la nuit. Un bonheur de se retrouver tous ensemble à hurler leurs titres jusqu’à épuisement, et c’était justement la cause de cet union Punks & Skins sous dopamine ! Merci à Wattie car à côté d’avoir assuré deux shows du vendredi et du samedi, c’est aussi grâce à lui, étant l’un des organisateurs du Bal des Vauriens, qu’on a pu faire cette fête magistrale tous ensemble sur ces deux soirées de pure folie au son de la Oi!

Et pour clôturer les concerts sur la grande scène de ce bal des Vauriens 2023, quoi de mieux que de finir à skanker sur le ska Oi! et le Skinhead Reggae des 8°6 Crew ! Les potos du 8°6 nous ont tous convié à cette énorme fiesta pour danser en prenant notre pied tous ensemble, et nous baignant dans une positive attitude à nous éclabousser le cerveau d’ondes de joie et d’euphorie pour le plus grand régal d’un public enflammé. Les lights teintés les visages du Crew de ce bon vieux vert jaune rouge, jusqu’à nous bercer dans l’ivresse d’un enthousiasme communicatif ultra entrainant et qui vous pousse vers le haut, et vous aide à toucher le soleil et ça ca fait du bien ! Le 8°6 Crew nous a fait vibrer jusqu’à leur dernières notes, en enchainant des morceaux toujours aussi cool happy et festifs les uns que les autres pour notre plus grand plaisir jusqu’à nous faire atteindre l’extase musicale!

Après ces deux soirées de folie au son de la Oi! du Punk, du Ska et du Skinhead Reggae, ils est temps de dire aurevoir aux copains et de remballer nos affaires pour ce nouvel enfer urbain ! Y’a pas à dire, ce joyeux bordel nous aurons fait un bien fou, à se faire pote avec le pote du pote et à finir ensemble à chanter les mêmes refrains à tue-tête jusqu’au petit matin…! Merci, le Bal des Vauriens !

After a night that will surely go down in the annals of Oi! Made in France because it was so heavy, we put the Saturday sauce back on because we wanted more and more. Even though, as we often say, some of us aren’t 20 years old any more, we could have been sure that an army of zombies would be arriving because yesterday was so full of hops and good Oi! from the slums… But there was none of that, even with the weakest and the most wobbly, the aficionados of the genre still had a hell of a lot of energy, and were ready to bang their heads together until they were writhing in their spleens!

And it’s off again for another day of madness with Squelette, simple, effective, straight to your head, there’s no denying it, that’s Squelette! It’s good old-fashioned Oi! à la Parisienne, and it’s still going strong. The Parisians have taken their standard and planted it on stage, sending out their bitter, raging, hard-hitting grip with riffs that are as sharp, unyielding and razor-sharp as each other, much to the delight of our ears, which have barely recovered from this crazy Friday night, but where we had so much fun. And what could be better than to emerge quietly but surely into a forced landing to open our eyes to this cold reality, whose music would awaken every skeleton in the catacombs of good old Panama to the last bone! Chris’s combo and his band of young wolves of the sea smell a lot more like Parisian cobblestones « in your head » than Noirmoutier foam, so we’re all happy to have a big blast to clear our floured heads!

Skinheads in overcoats? Will they all be wearing overcoats? That was the big question on everyone’s lips! And no, Survet Skins were much more likely to be wearing t-shirts, rock ‘n’ roll shirts or even shirtless shirts than overcoats, but the ‘Survet Street’ spirit was definitely there. It smelt of football matches, bars with friends and parties until the early hours. As night fell and spirits began to rise, Survet Skins were on hand to give us a good show! The atmosphere was great, the songs went on and on, and the audience kept coming back for more, singing along to the choruses of their younger days!

Béton Armé or a paving stone in the pond. After Survet Skins, people arrived in droves and squeezed into a row of onions to see the Quebecers, onions that were soon thrown in the blender as the carnage was so close. When we saw the first waves of the band’s enthusiasm, we knew it was literally going to be a nuclear cataclysm on earth, so thank you guys, welcome to hell! Or rather paradise, as Béton Armé blasted through their songs with a rage and raw energy that could have slapped the most virulent wrestler in his heavyweight category in the face and finished him off with a knockout. The human tide pressed together to form a single mass, jumping and raging to the rhythm of their abrupt « get into it » sounds. Béton Armé don’t beat about the bush: this is pure, unadulterated Oi! PURE AND HARD, straight to the front to send your brain to hospital or to the emergency department, and God knows it’s good!

Between two Oi! bands, a little break from old-school punk is in order…! The band, formed in London in ’80, are still on the road, pumping out a healthy dose of studded perfecto riffs and the English ‘fuck off’ attitude we love so much. The band kicked off their show with their famous ‘Emergency’ and went on to play a whole host of cult tracks that delighted their die-hard fans. Lee Wilson set the crowd alight with his « vocal essence », and the crowd went wild for more. You could see the first pogos forming, and then it was off to a festival of energy and punch that brought the first smiles to radiant faces, simply happy to be there and to be able to attend the show of the friends of INFA RIOT! It was at this point that the more adventurous of us really began to forget the fatigue of the day before, and it was back to business as usual, as if for a moment we’d been transported back to the good old 80s, and that felt so good!

Talking of having hit it out of the park the night before, Wattie and his band were back in force, playing two nights in a row, the Friday before with MARABOOTS for a first taste, and the Saturday before with the much-anticipated LION’S LAW. The highlight of this festival, dedicated mainly to the Oi! before the end of this grandiose evening, was the unleashed audience who chanted their choruses with a sick grip. It was beautiful, masterful and heart-warming, like a Lionheart doped up on Oi! testosterone. The lions gave us a magnificent show, all power, smelling of pride, strength and the alleys of Paris City at night. It was a joy to be together, screaming their songs until they were exhausted, and that was precisely the reason for this Punks & Skins union on dopamine! Our thanks go to Wattie, because as well as putting on the two shows on Friday and Saturday, it’s also thanks to him, as one of the organisers of the Bal des Vauriens, that we were able to throw this masterful party together over two evenings of pure madness to the sound of the Oi!

And to round off the concerts on the main stage of this Bal des Vauriens 2023, what better way than to end up skanking to Oi! ska and Skinhead Reggae from the 8°6 Crew! The 8°6 mates have invited us all to this huge fiesta to dance the night away, getting our kicks together, and bathing us in a positive attitude, splashing our brains with waves of joy and euphoria to the delight of a fired-up audience. The lights tinted the Crew’s faces with good old-fashioned green, yellow and red, lulling us into the intoxication of an infectious, ultra-enthusiastic enthusiasm that pushes you upwards and helps you touch the sun, and that’s good! The 8°6 Crew kept us on our toes right up to their last notes, playing a succession of tracks, each as cool, happy and festive as the last, to our great delight, until we reached musical ecstasy!

After two wild evenings of Oi!, Punk, Ska and Skinhead Reggae, it’s time to say goodbye to our friends and pack up for a new urban hell! There’s no denying it, this merry mess will have done us a world of good, making buddies with buddies’ buddies and ending up together singing the same refrains at the top of our lungs until the wee hours of the morning…! Thank you, Bal des Vauriens!
