Après une première partie de la tournée européenne (dont 4 dates en France), c’est à la Boîte à Musique de Wattrelos que Jared James Nichols a décidé de faire un arrêt pour délivrer une 4ème fois son Rock teinté de Blues au public français. Un concert organisé par Muzivox, dans une salle aux allures de club, dans une ambiance conviviale et chaleureuse.

C’est pour un show sold-out que Jared James Nichols se produira avec son groupe, seul à l’affiche ce soir. Un concert qui commencera tôt (18h15), mais qui commencera de la meilleure des manières avec un enchaînement de morceaux issus du dernier album (sobrement intitulé Jared James Nichols) : “Easy Come, Easy Go”, “My delusion”, “Down the drain” et “Hard wired” viennent poser le ton ! On est là pour une soirée au son du Blues Rock ! Ici, nul question de réinventer le style, Jared James Nichols vient le sublimer avec une voix envoutante, et surtout avec un jeu de guitare au doigt (fingerpicking), et c’est accompagné de ses musiciens (qu’il mettra régulièrement en avant au cours du concert) qu’il délivrera son show pendant environ 1h15.
S’en suit un moment fort du concert avec “Threw me to the wolves”, qui viendra ralentir le ton et apporter une nouvelle fois une ambiance résolument bluesy. Au cours du morceau, le guitariste américain descendra jouer dans le public, avant de donner sa guitare à un spectateur qui interprétera un (très bon) solo ! Après avoir teasé le public avec quelques riffs de “Miss you” des Rolling Stones, Jared James Nichols continuera de donner la part belle à son dernier album en date avec “Skin ‘n Bone” et “Bad Roots”, avant d’interpréter son tube “Honey forgive me”, aux vibes très soul et qui sentent bon Woodstock !
La suite du show proposera elle aussi un bon compromis entre nouveaux titres et classiques plus anciens, avec “Shadowdancer” ou encore “Keep your light on mama”, toujours avec un groupe qui n’hésite pas à faire participer le public (le guitariste n’hésitera pas plusieurs fois au cours du concert à s’arrêter pour blaguer avec le public, et lui confiera même beaucoup apprécier le public français et l’ambiance particulière que la salle dégage). C’est à ce moment que Jared James Nichols déclarera qu’il est trop tôt pour terminer son concert, et qu’il a encore quelques surprises au bout de ses 6 cordes ! En effet, comment passer à côté de “Nails in the coffin”, titre prenant au possible avec une ambiance très sombre, mais toujours magnifié par un jeu de guitare irréprochable.
Puis viendra (quand même) la fin du concert. Elle se fera en deux temps, d’abord avec une reprise de “War Pigs (Black Sabbath), qui, passé l’étonnement de quelques personnes dans la salle au niveau de l’écart de style, fera remuer de nombreuses têtes ! C’est après un départ de scène que Jared James Nichols et son groupe reviendront interpréter le classique “Mississippi Queen” (Mountain), tout sourire, avant de proposer au public de se retrouver quelques minutes après pour “prendre une photo, se boire une bière et avoir un gros câlin transpirant”.
Ce show de Jared James Nichols aura prouvé que le Blues Rock a encore un véritable avenir, avec des artistes talentueux et un public au rendez-vous ! Le groupe a su proposer un concert à la fois divertissant, mais aussi vraiment prenant et envoûtant, entre titres accessibles et d’autres plus personnels et introspectifs. La question qui se pose avec tous les sourires affichés à la sortie de la salle sera donc : à quand la prochaine fois ?

Following the first leg of his European tour (which included 4 dates in France), Jared James Nichols decided to stop off at the Boîte à Musique in Wattrelos to deliver his Blues-tinged rock to French audiences for a 4th time. The concert was organised by Muzivox, in a club-like venue with a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Jared James Nichols will be performing a sold-out show with his band, the only act on the bill this evening. The concert kicks off early (6.15pm), but gets off to the best possible start with a succession of tracks from the latest album (soberly entitled Jared James Nichols): ‘Easy Come, Easy Go’, ‘My delusion’, ‘Down the drain’ and ‘Hard wired’ set the tone! We’re in for an evening of Blues Rock! There’s no question of reinventing the style here, Jared James Nichols is here to sublimate it with his bewitching voice, and above all with his fingerpicking guitar playing, and it’s accompanied by his musicians (whom he’ll be showcasing regularly throughout the concert) that he’ll be delivering his show for around 1 hour 15 minutes.
« Threw me to the wolves » was the highlight of the concert, slowing things down and once again setting a resolutely bluesy mood. During the song, the American guitarist came down to play in the audience, before handing his guitar to a spectator who played a (very good) solo! After teasing the audience with a few riffs on The Rolling Stones’ « Miss You », Jared James Nichols continued to give pride of place to his latest album with « Skin ‘n Bone » and « Bad Roots », before performing his hit « Honey Forgive Me », with its soulful vibe and the smell of Woodstock!
The rest of the show also offered a good balance between new songs and older classics, with « Shadowdancer » and « Keep your light on mama », and the band never hesitated to get the audience involved (the guitarist didn’t hesitate to stop and joke with the audience several times during the concert, and even confided that he really appreciated the French audience and the special atmosphere the venue gave off). It was at this point that Jared James Nichols declared that it was too early to end his concert, and that he still had a few surprises up his sleeve with his 6 strings! Indeed, it’s hard to miss « Nails in the coffin », a track that’s as gripping as you can get, with a very dark ambience, but always magnified by impeccable guitar playing.
Then came (after all) the end of the concert. First with a cover of ‘War Pigs’ (Black Sabbath), which, after the astonishment of a few people in the room at the stylistic difference, got a lot of heads bobbing! After leaving the stage, Jared James Nichols and his band returned to perform the classic « Mississippi Queen » (Mountain), all smiles, before inviting the audience to meet up a few minutes later to « take a photo, have a beer and a big sweaty hug ».
This show by Jared James Nichols proved that Blues Rock still has a real future, with talented artists and a great audience! The band put on a concert that was both entertaining and truly captivating, with a mix of accessible tracks and more personal, introspective ones. So, with all the smiles on the faces as we left the venue, the question is: when is the next one?
