Angers et le Maine-Et-Loire nous révèlent une nouvelle curiosité musicale en la personne du duo Lunar Lock. Deux musiciens pour un deuxième EP à cheval entre la cold wave et le shoegaze. Intitulé The Dream Of Sad City, il sera disponible dès le 10 novembre en autoproduction. Que nous réservent Romain Le Lavandier et Maxence Thulievre pour cette deuxième sortie de leur jeune carrière, le duo s’étant formé en 2021?

Des claviers doux nous accueillent dans cet EP avant qu’une batterie très binaire vienne nous apporter le rythme de ce premier titre. La voix de Romain arrive et nous montre toute sa beauté! Le chant digne du meilleur de la shoegaze vient nous cueillir et emporte tout sur son passage. Sa tessiture vocale est impressionnante tant il fluctue entre chant placé dans les aigus et un autre plus grave qui rappelle les plus belles voix du genre. Ce premier titre est une véritable réussite et donne clairement envie de se plonger dans la suite. Sur le second titre la guitare de Hugo Fouassier, également responsable du son majestueux de cet EP vient apporter une petite touche rock au son des deux angevins. Ici le titre se fait presque post punk dans son approche du rythme et du chant, signe que le duo sait naviguer aisément entre les genres sans s’y perdre.
Tout au long de l’écoute le travail de Maxence à la basse est un pur plaisir pour nos oreilles. Tantôt en arrière plan et tantôt bien mise en avant, elle trouve toujours un moyen de parfaitement compléter les claviers et faire de cet ensemble un pur délice. En parlant de beauté « Dantean Beauty » et cette boite à rythmes digne des années 80 est peu être notre morceau préféré de l’album. On sent que le duo a trouvé sa place et son son avec ce titre parfait pour une après midi de détente un livre à la main. On en vient à se demander si ça n’est vraiment que la seconde sortie de la formation tant le travail est maîtrisé et plein de vie. « Brain Drowning » clôt cet EP avec brio avec une nouvelle fois ces claviers envoutants, ces basses enivrantes et ces voix majestueuses.
Lunar Lock signent avec The Dream Of Sad City un départ en trombes pour leur projet! On vous l’a dit leur musique sonne comme le tour meilleur d’une fusion de plusieurs genres qui vivent en harmonie. Une réussite totale qui non seulement donne envie de découvrir ce projet en live, mais surtout qui annonce le meilleur pour cette jeune formation qu’on voit aller très loin! Une de nos découvertes de l’année pour sûr.

Angers and Maine-Et-Loire are home to a new musical curiosity in the form of the duo Lunar Lock. Two musicians for a second EP straddling the line between cold wave and shoegaze. Entitled The Dream Of Sad City, it will be available from 10 November, self-produced. What do Romain Le Lavandier and Maxence Thulievre have in store for us on this second release in their young career, the duo having formed in 2021?
Gentle keyboards welcome us into the EP, before binary drums set the rhythm for the first track. Romain‘s voice comes in and shows us all its beauty! His vocals are worthy of the very best shoegaze has to offer, and they take everything in their stride. His vocal range is impressive, as he fluctuates between high-pitched vocals and deeper ones reminiscent of the finest voices in the genre. This first track is a real success, and clearly makes you want to dive in for the rest. On the second track, the guitar of Hugo Fouassier, who is also responsible for the majestic sound of this EP, adds a touch of rock to the sound of the two Angevins. The track is almost post-punk in its approach to rhythm and vocals, a sign that the duo know how to navigate between genres without getting lost.
Throughout, Maxence‘s bass work is a pure pleasure to listen to. Sometimes in the background, sometimes in the foreground, it always finds a way to perfectly complement the keyboards and make the whole thing a pure delight. Speaking of beauty, ‘Dantean Beauty’, with its 80s-style drum machine, is perhaps our favourite track on the album. You can feel that the duo have found their place and their sound with this track, perfect for a relaxing afternoon with a book in your hand. It makes you wonder if this really is only the band’s second release, such is the mastery and vibrancy of their work. « Brain Drowning’ closes the EP with a bang, once again featuring bewitching keyboards, intoxicating bass and majestic vocals.
Lunar Lock are off to a flying start with The Dream Of Sad City! As we said, their music sounds like the best of a fusion of several genres living in harmony. A total success that not only makes you want to discover this project live, but above all heralds the best for this young band that we see going very far! One of our discoveries of the year for sure.
