Une partie de l’équipe s’est déplacée à la Machine du Moulin Rouge, salle historique qui était la chaufferie du cabaret avant de devenir un club. Stray from the Path honore leur première tournée headline en France et ramène avec eux grâce à Rage Tour les australiens de Make them Suffer et Void of Vision et les japonais de Knosis.

Dû à un changement d’horaire, nous n’avons pu assister qu’aux dernières minutes de prestations de la part de Knosis. Mais en allant à la pêche aux avis, en ressort, un jeune groupe qui avait une envie de prouver leur statut de première partie d’un groupe comme Stray From the Path. La salle a été globalement conquise par l’énergie et les breaks assourdissants de leur dernier EP The Eternal Doom. Nous pouvons que vous inviter à tendre une oreille voir les deux à ce groupe japonais composé notamment de Ryo Kinoshita l’ex chanteur de Crystal Lake qui repassera une tête durant la soirée.
On commence officiellement, le concert avec le groupe qui se détache le plus de la programmation par l’accoutrement noir revêtu par tous les membres du groupe Void Of Vision. Veste en cuir noir, rouge à levres noir, l’attention se porte directement sur le chanteur Jack Bergin. Dès le deuxième titre “Dominatrix” que la Machine du Moulin Rouge prend feu. Le pit commence à ressembler à un vrai champ de bataille, tout le public se pousse, se bouscule, va même jusqu’à slammer depuis la scène même si certaines tentatives ont plus résulté d’un mal de dos le lundi matin. Sans surprise, les titres s’enchaînent majoritairement composés du dernier album Chronicles sorti en février dernier. Le groupe choisit de terminer par “ Lonely People” , un des titres les plus énervés du dernier album emmenant la salle dans ses derniers retranchements avant Make them Suffer. On regrettera l’absence de “Ghost in the Machine” qui au-delà d’être un super morceau aurait été un beau petit clin d’œil à la salle.
C’est sous les acclamations que Make them Suffer arrive sur le plancher de la Machine du Moulin Rouge. Pas le temps de se préparer, on se fait directement rentrer dedans par l’un de leurs derniers titres “Ghost of Me”. On sent que la salle a passé un palier, le groupe étant très attendu dans l’hexagone les derniers concerts datant de 2019. Il ya donc du temps à rattraper entre l’album en cours et How to Survive a Funeral sorti en 2020 étant resté sans date française depuis. Sur “Bones” un des fan-favorite, Sean Harmanis vient remonter des personnes du public qui stage dive et communier avec tout le public. La prestation s’en suit jusqu’au très attendu “ Fake your own Death” où Nick Lermon et Jaja Jeffery mettent leur guitare et basse à l’unisson sur les riffs ravageurs afin d’aller haranguer la fosse qui a envie de sang. Nous n’avons pas pu passer à côté de “Contrabond” mettant en lumière la voix de la choriste Alex Reade. Le groupe termine par “Doomswitch” histoire de condamner la salle à une errance en soif de toujours plus de violence et on l’espère un retour du quintet en France avant 2027.
Toute la salle n’attend que Stray from the Path suite à la petite pause rafraîchissement. Le ton est directement donné Guillotine éclairée sur scène, “Guillotine” en première chanson en temps que français on ne peut sourire à l’hommage involontaire. Dès le premier morceau, on voit bien que Andrew Dijorio est une bête de scène, il n’arrêtera pas de errer à chaque coin de la scène durant l’intégralité de la prestation. Évidemment comme chaque concert de Stray from the Path, l’énergie déborde de la salle et le public se lâche comme jamais de la soirée. Aucun répit dans les enchaînements de “ Goodbye Alt-Right” et “Chest Candy” où on voit que le pit s’est transformé en terrain de bagarre pour le public. Le premier temps de répit vient avant “Neighbourhood Watch” où Drew prend le temps de nous remercier pour la puissance dégagée par la salle. Quand arrive “Fortune Teller” , on constate toute la force et l’état de groupe incontestable que Stray from the Path a su établir au fil des années. Bloqué sur le devant de la scène, j’ai pu participé au festivités sur “ Ring Leader” tellement la salle entière s’est précipitée sur scène pour aller slammer dans le public. On pensait à une baisse de régime au vue de la dépense d’énergie mais absolument pas, le groupe enchaîne frappe sur frappe pour mettre K.O la salle sur “ First World Problem Child” où Ryo vient prendre le featuring de Sam Carter et terminer le concert dans le public. On soulignera la prestation de Craig Reynolds ayant assuré la partie batterie avec une infection au sinus rendant le concert sur Toulouse encore plus compliqué.
On ne peut pas cacher notre satisfaction de revoir Stray from the Path sur les terres parisiennes, surtout dans l’état actuel du pays où chaque titre fait sens auprès des spectateurs venus en nombre à la Machine du Moulin Rouge. Les quatre groupes ont réussi à mettre la salle à la même température voir plus que le quartier de Pigalle. Le travail des différentes lumières et l’agencement de la salle venant sublimer le spectacle. Nul doute que la scène australienne a encore de beaux jours devant elles comme nous avons pu le constater durant les prestations de Make them Suffer et de Void of Vision. Reste à observer la trajectoire que va prendre le nouveau groupe Knosis dans les mois à venir.

Part of the team travelled to the Machine du Moulin Rouge, the historic venue that used to be the cabaret’s boiler room before becoming a club. Stray from the Path are honouring their first headline tour in France, bringing back with them on the Rage Tour the Australians of Make them Suffer and Void of Vision and the Japanese of Knosis.

Due to a change in schedule, we were only able to catch the last few minutes of Knosis‘ performance. But if you go fishing for reviews, you’ll find a young band keen to prove their status as support act for the likes of Stray From the Path. The energy and deafening breaks of their latest EP, The Eternal Doom, won over the crowd. We urge you to give an ear or two to this Japanese band, featuring Ryo Kinoshita, ex-singer of Crystal Lake, who will be dropping in again during the evening.
The concert officially kicks off with the band that stands out the most from the line-up, the black outfit worn by all the members of Void Of Vision. Black leather jacket, black lipstick, the focus is on singer Jack Bergin. As soon as the second track, « Dominatrix », starts, la Machine du Moulin Rouge catches fire. The pit began to resemble a real battlefield, with the whole audience pushing and shoving each other, even slamming from the stage, even if some of the attempts were more the result of a backache on Monday morning. Unsurprisingly, the songs followed each other, most of them from the latest Chronicles album released last February. The band chose to end with ‘Lonely People’, one of the angriest tracks from the last album, taking the crowd to its limits before Make them Suffer. The absence of ‘Ghost in the Machine’ is regrettable, as it would have been a nice little wink to the crowd as well as being a great track.
Make them Suffer arrive on the floor of La Machine du Moulin Rouge to rapturous applause. There’s no time to get ready, just one of their latest tracks, « Ghost of Me », blasting straight into the crowd. It’s clear that the venue has moved on, with the band eagerly awaited in France since their last concerts in 2019. So there’s plenty of time to catch up between the current album and How to Survive a Funeral, which was released in 2020 but has not been released in France since. On « Bones », one of their fan-favourites, Sean Harmanis, comes up to the stage to dive and commune with the whole audience. The show went on until the long-awaited « Fake your own Death », where Nick Lermon and Jaja Jeffery put their guitar and bass in unison on the devastating riffs to harangue the pit, which was hungry for blood. We couldn’t miss ‘Contrabond’, featuring the voice of backing vocalist Alex Reade. The band ended with ‘Doomswitch’, condemning the crowd to a wander through the venue, thirsting for more violence and, hopefully, a return to France before 2027.
The whole room is just waiting for Stray from the Path after the short refreshment break. The tone is immediately set with Guillotine lit up on stage, « Guillotine » as the first song, and as a Frenchman you can’t help but smile at the unintentional homage. From the very first song, it’s clear that Andrew Dijorio is a stage beast, and he won’t stop wandering around every corner of the stage throughout the entire performance. As with every Stray from the Path concert, the energy overflowed from the room and the audience let loose like never before. There was no respite during the sequences of « Goodbye Alt-Right » and « Chest Candy », which showed that the pit had been transformed into a brawling ground for the audience. The first moment of respite comes before « Neighbourhood Watch », when Drew takes the time to thank us for the power that the crowd is giving off. By the time « Fortune Teller » arrives, it’s clear that Stray from the Path have established themselves as a strong and undeniable band over the years. Stuck at the front of the stage, I was able to join in the festivities on « Ring Leader » as the whole room rushed on stage to slam into the audience. The band went from strength to strength, knocking out the crowd on « First World Problem Child », where Ryo took Sam Carter‘s featuring and ended the concert in the audience. Of particular note was the performance of Craig Reynolds, who played the drums with a sinus infection that made the concert in Toulouse even more complicated.
We can’t hide our satisfaction at seeing Stray from the Path back in Paris, especially given the current state of the country where every track makes sense to the large crowd at La Machine du Moulin Rouge. The four bands succeeded in bringing the venue to the same or even higher temperature than Pigalle. The different lighting effects and the layout of the venue enhanced the show. There’s no doubt that the Australian scene still has a bright future ahead of it, as we saw during the performances of Make them Suffer and Void of Vision. We’ll just have to wait and see how the new Knosis band develops over the coming months.
