En cette fin de semaine Le Zénith de Lille accueille un concert que beaucoup attendent de pied ferme depuis de nombreux mois! En effet Kyo fêtent cette année les 20 ans de leur albums culte Le Chemin, et la tournée qui lui est dédiée s’arrête dans le Nord. Autant dire que beaucoup ont fait le déplacement pour entendre l’album joué dans son intégralité! Pour ouvrir la soirée, le groupe à fait appel à la chanteuse Stéphane, qui a enregistré avec eux une nouvelle version du titre éponyme. C’est donc dans un Zénith plein à craquer que nous arrivons prêts à repartir au début de notre adolescence pour vivre en live ces titres qui ont forgé le début de notre identité musicale.

A 20h les lumières s’éteignent et Stéphane arrive sur scène accompagnée de son guitariste pour nous présenter quelques titres de son album Madame sorti cette année. « Douleur Je Fuis » ou encore « 48h » nous font découvrir l’univers de la chanteuse qui nous envoute en quelques secondes avec ses compositions douces et parfaitement interprétées. Les deux guitares acoustiques font de ce début de soirée un véritable moment d’apaisement renforcé par la voix de notre hôte. On découvre le travail de l’artiste suisse ce soir et on est véritablement conquis par ce qu’on entend. Le public n’hésite pas à participer un peu et montre son soutien à la musicienne avec de larges applaudissement entre les morceaux. Après un set beaucoup trop rapide à notre goût l’artiste nous laisse avec un dernier titre toujours aussi réussi qui confirme son grand talent de compositrice.
Stéphane a su en un peu moins de trente minutes nous montrer une belle partie de son univers musical. On avait entendu son nom quelques fois mais on ne savait pas à quoi s’attendre. On ressort de cette prestation heureux de la découverte et on vous encourage à aller poser vos oreilles sur son album. Un beau moment de douceur !
Après une petite pause il est temps de retrouver le groupe pour lequel tout le monde a fait le déplacement ce soir: Kyo! On avait vu le groupe lors de leur passage à l’Aéronef début 2022 et on attendait cette soirée avec impatience. La lumière s’éteint et les écrans en fond de scène nous diffusent des extraits de concerts, des Victoires de La Musique ou encore de moments de vie du groupe datant de l’époque de la sortie de l’album Le Chemin. Puis Benoit Poher arrive sur la scène et commence directement avec le morceau titre, vite rejoint par le reste des musiciens. Le show est grandiose et nous replonge instantanément dans nos années collège. Le groupe décide de nous présenter l’album en intégralité et dans l’ordre. C’est donc les classiques « Je Cours » et « Dernière Danse » qui suivent, bien évidemment repris en chœur par toute la foule. On regrettera la nuée de téléphones portables qui nous empêchent de profiter pleinement de la scénographie du show. Le groupe n’hésite pas à remercier le public lillois pour son accueil et sa fidélité depuis toutes ses années.
On poursuit avec « Chaque Seconde » ou encore l’excellent « Je Saigne Encore » qui dévoilent toujours un peu plus de ce superbe spectacle préparé par le groupe et son équipe. Florian Dubos et Nicolas Chassagne aux guitares sont toujours en grande forme et nous livrent une prestation d’anthologie. On est d’ailleurs surpris d’entendre autant la voix de Florian, qui était plus rare qu’aujourd’hui à l’époque, et on comprend rapidement pourquoi. On le sentait depuis le départ mais on est obligé de se faire à l’idée, la voix de Benoit n’est pas au mieux ce soir. Malade ou fatigue vocale des précédentes dates, on ne saura pas, mais certains titres subissent cette petite baisse de régime du chanteur. On profite tout de même de l’excellente prestation des musiciens dont Jocelyn Moze à la batterie et Pierre Lavandon à la basse véritables métronomes de cet set avec leurs rythmiques variées.
« Sur Nos Lèvres » et « Tout Reste à Faire » terminent cette prestation des 20 ans de cet album de légende du rock français. Et même si le groupe quitte la scène quelques minutes, le concert est loin d’être terminé! C’est avec un medley incluant « Kyosphere » que le groupe nous retrouve avant d’enchaîner avec des titres des autres albums sortis par la suite. C’est avec un plaisir immense qu’on chantera « Le Graal », « Contact » ou encore « White Trash ». Le groupe revient ensuite, à notre grand étonnement, aux titres déjà joués ce soir et nous propose la version revisitée de « Je Cours » malgré l’absence de Nuit Incolore. N’ayant pas entendu cette nouvelle version on est surpris par ces sonorités très électro. Le public est dans une forme olympique, tout comme Nicolas Subréchicot aux claviers qui bouge littéralement dans tous les sens en jouant. Après le désormais culte « Mon Epoque », il est temps de retrouver un de nos titres favoris du groupe, « Sarah », joué ici dans une version acoustique rendant parfaitement hommage à la beauté du morceau. On approche désormais de la fin et le groupe clôturera cette belle soirée avec entre autre le titre « Poupées Russes » qui fait toujours son petit effet en live avec en bonus de la pyrotechnie.
Pour le rappel nous aurons le droit au retour de Stéphane sur scène pour la version revisitée du titre « Le Chemin », véritable réussite qui montre que les voix de la chanteuse suisse et de Benoit se mêlent à merveille. C’est une nuée d’applaudissements que le groupe quitte la scène du Zénith, heureux d’avoir passé cette soirée avec ce public fidèle depuis autant d’années.
Cette soirée de fête des 20 ans de l’album Le Chemin a clairement été un moment de joie fédératrice. Malgré le petit bémol vocal on a passé un très bon moment à chanter ces titres importants de nos vies. On a également visité toutes les époques de Kyo pour notre plus grand plaisir, avec en apothéose un show visuel total qui prouve une fois de plus que les groupes français peuvent aussi rivaliser avec les groupes étrangers côté scénographie. On quitte la salle avec un sentiment de nostalgie assouvie et le sourire aux lèvres.

This weekend, Le Zénith in Lille plays host to a concert that many fans have been eagerly awaiting for months! Kyo are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their cult album Le Chemin this year, and the tour dedicated to it is stopping off in the Nord region. So it’s safe to say that a lot of people turned out to hear the album played in its entirety! To open the evening, the group called on singer Stéphane, who recorded a new version of the eponymous track with them. So it was to a packed-out Zénith that we arrived, ready to go back to our early teens and experience live the songs that forged the beginnings of our musical identity.

At 8pm the lights went down and Stéphane took to the stage, accompanied by her guitarist, to perform a number of tracks from her album Madame, released this year. « Douleur Je Fuis » and « 48h » introduce us to the world of the singer, who captivates us in a matter of seconds with her gentle, perfectly interpreted compositions. The two acoustic guitars make for a truly soothing start to the evening, enhanced by our host’s voice. We are discovering the work of this Swiss artist tonight and we are truly won over by what we hear. The audience didn’t hesitate to join in and show their support for the musician with a round of applause between songs. After a set that was far too fast for our taste, the artist left us with a final track that was as successful as ever, confirming her great talent as a composer.
In just under thirty minutes, Stéphane showed us a good part of her musical universe. We’d heard her name a few times but didn’t know what to expect. We came away from this performance happy with the discovery and we encourage you to go and put your ears to her album. A beautiful moment of sweetness!
After a short break, it’s time to get back to the band everyone has come out to see this evening: Kyo! We saw the band when they played at L’Aéronef in early 2022 and we’ve been looking forward to this evening with great anticipation. The lights go down and the screens at the back of the stage show extracts from concerts, Les Victoires de La Musique awards and moments from the band’s life around the time of the release of their album Le Chemin. Then Benoit Poher comes on stage and starts straight into the title track, quickly joined by the rest of the musicians. The show is grandiose and instantly transports us back to our school days. The band decided to present the album in its entirety and in order. The classics « Je Cours » and « Dernière Danse » followed, with the whole crowd singing along. We regretted the swarm of mobile phones which prevented us from taking full advantage of the show’s scenography. The band were quick to thank the Lille crowd for their warm welcome and loyalty over the years.
We continue with « Chaque Seconde » and the excellent « Je Saigne Encore », which reveal a little more of this superb show prepared by the band and its team. Florian Dubos and Nicolas Chassagne on guitars are still in top form and deliver an anthology performance. We were surprised to hear Florian‘s voice so much, which was rarer than it is today, and we quickly understood why. We’d sensed it from the start, but we’re forced to accept that Benoit‘s voice isn’t at its best this evening. Whether this is due to illness or vocal fatigue from previous dates, we won’t know, but some of the songs are affected by this slight dip in the singer’s performance. Still, the musicians were excellent, with Jocelyn Moze on drums and Pierre Lavandon on bass, the real metronomes of the set with their varied rhythms.
« Sur Nos Lèvres » and « Tout Reste à Faire » rounded off the 20th anniversary of this legendary French rock album. And even though the band left the stage for a few minutes, the concert was far from over! The band returned to the stage with a medley that included « Kyosphere », before moving on to songs from their other albums. Le Graal », « Contact » and « White Trash » were all sung with immense pleasure. To our astonishment, the band then returned to the songs they had already played this evening, offering a revisited version of ‘Je Cours’ despite the absence of Nuit Incolore. Having never heard this new version, we were surprised by the very electro sounds. The audience is in top form, as is Nicolas Subréchicot on keyboards, who literally moves in all directions as he plays. After the now-cult ‘Mon Epoque’, it’s time to return to one of the band’s favourite tracks, ‘Sarah’, played here in an acoustic version that pays perfect tribute to the beauty of the song. As the evening drew to a close, the band brought the evening to a close with ‘Poupées Russes’, a song that always makes an impact live, with the added bonus of pyrotechnics.
For the encore, Stéphane returns to the stage for a revisited version of « Le Chemin », a real success which shows that the voices of the Swiss singer and Benoit blend perfectly. The group left the Zénith stage to rapturous applause, happy to have spent the evening with such a loyal audience over so many years.
This evening to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album Le Chemin was clearly a moment of unifying joy. Despite the small vocal drawback, we had a great time singing these important songs from our lives. We also got to visit all the different eras of Kyo, to our great delight, culminating in a total visual extravaganza that proves once again that French bands can also compete with foreign groups when it comes to stage design. We left the venue with a feeling of nostalgia satisfied and a smile on our faces.
