En ce début 2024, les américains de Alluvial débarquent avec leur tout nouvel EP, Death Is But A Door, après deux albums marquants, entre Djent, deathcore et progressive death métal. Sorti via Nuclear Blast ce vendredi 12 janvier, l’EP est parfait pour se briser le coeur et se trémousser. C’est eux qui le disent !

Prêt à se faire habiter par Alluvial ? « Bod Dweller » se veut rapide, gras mais sans être trop lourd. La voix de Kevin Muller se veut au dessus du reste des instruments, pour une compo très propre. Batterie rapide, gros riff de guitare, basse lourde, le titre est accrocheur. « Fogbelt » attirera nos oreilles par ces notes criantes, comme un appel à l’aide. Le death métal se veut lent, nous plongeant dans un univers sombre. Jusqu’à se bagarrer sur « Area Code », nettement plus batti pour un live mouvementé. Marqué par un break hurlant et profond, le morceau est une belle réussite. C’est néanmoins le titre éponyme, qui s’illustrera à la place de single d’avant sortie de l’EP et dès la première phrase chantée, on imagine vite pourquoi. Avec ses airs beaucoup plus accessible, le morceau puise dans le rock très 00’s et en devient la composition la plus intéressante dénotant avec ce que le groupe a l’habitude de faire. Une belle petite pépite en soit !
La formation que nous avions découvert lors de leur passage à The Black Lab, quasiment 1 an jour pour jour est encore une fois une source sûre de qualité. Leur death métal polyrythmique est efficace, sans jamais être dans l’excès. L’EP ne tourne pas en rond, et propose de vrais compositions, très différentes l’une de l’autre.

At the start of 2024, the Americans from Alluvial are back with their brand new EP, Death Is But A Door, following on from two landmark albums of Djent, deathcore and progressive death metal. Released via Nuclear Blast this january 12th, the EP is perfect for breaking your heart and getting your groove on. That’s what they say!
Ready to be inhabited by Alluvial? « Bod Dweller » is fast, fat but not too heavy. Kevin Muller’s voice stands above the rest of the instruments, making for a very clean composition. Fast drums, big guitar riff, heavy bass, the track is catchy. « Fogbelt » draws our ears in with its screaming notes, like a cry for help. The death metal is slow, plunging us into a dark universe. Area Code », which is much more upbeat for an eventful live show. Marked by a deep, screaming break, the track is a great success. It’s the eponymous track, however, that will take pride of place as the EP’s pre-release single, and from the first sung phrase, it’s easy to see why. With its much more accessible feel, the track draws on very 00s rock and becomes the most interesting composition, standing out from what the band is used to doing. A nice little nugget in itself!
The band we discovered when they played at The Black Lab, almost 1 year to the day, are once again a reliable source of quality. Their polyrhythmic death metal is effective, without ever going overboard. The EP doesn’t go round in circles, and features some real compositions, each very different from the next.
