Formé en 2020, les allemands de CobraKill n’ont pas perdu de temps pour se forger une belle réputation avec la sortie de leur premier album Cobratör en 2022. C’est un mélange d’influences diverses comme Mötley Crüe, Judas Priest, W.A.S.P ou encore Lizzy Borden qui s’en dégage, avec la fougue, le son et l’attitude des 80s ! Le 19 janvier 2024, le nouvel album Serpent’s Kiss sortira sur le label Frontiers Music s.r.l, et nous permettra de nous replonger dans le mélange heavy metal / sleaze / rock et glam ravageur du groupe !

Re-laquez vos cheveux, car c’est à cent à l’heure que le groupe entame l’album avec “Above The Law”, morceau qui commence fort avec un gros riff de guitare et une batterie au BPM bien soutenu ! La voix est mixée très 80s avec beaucoup de reverb et on notera directement la versatilité entre chant clair et scream, faisant parfois à Vince Neil, d’autre fois à Rob Halford. Les chœurs ultra présents nous donnent directement envie de chanter “Above the law” en boucle et headbanguer !
Bazooka” vient terminer le travail en ajoutant un côté très glam sur le refrain avec les lyrics “danger, danger” qui font facilement penser au mix hard / glam de Tigertailz. On retrouvera aussi dans l’album un côté glam très marqué avec la présence de synthés sur “Concrete Jungle”, et de riffs qui entrent facilement en tête comme en atteste l’excellent “Same Ol’ Nasty Rock N’ Roll” qui délivre une nouvelle fois un lot de chœurs, de chant suraiguë, de guitares en harmonie. “Seventeen” se pose comme la classique power ballade 80s, qui se construira autour d’une guitare jouée en arpège sur les couplets, et secondée par moment par des sifflements, et apportera son lot d’émotions avant d’aboutir à un durcissement du ton sur le solo et la fin du morceau.
Le rythmé “Ride My Rocket” apporte quant à lui son lot de paroles suggestives, avec un second degré très marqué et qui donne tout de même place à un morceau très divertissant et à un nouveau lot de gros solos ! “Velvet Snakeskin” vient clôturer l’album à la perfection, en proposant un gros morceau heavy avec des guitares qui font facilement penser à “17 Girls in A Row” de Steel Panther, pour les plus grands amateurs de guitares aux envolées lyriques !
Avec Serpent’s Kiss, CobraKill propose un nouvel album qui ravira les fans du premier album tout en allant chercher de nouveaux fans ! On peut noter le savant mélange entre heavy metal et glam pour un résultat très convaincant. Très accessible et énergique, il y a fort à parier que l’album est à mettre entre toutes les mains d’amateurs de hard rock, de heavy et même de metal au sens large !

On 19 January 2024, the new album Serpent’s Kiss will be released on the Frontiers Music s.r.l label, giving us the chance to immerse ourselves in the band’s devastating mix of heavy metal / sleaze / rock and glam!
Let your hair down again, because the band kicks off the album at a hundred miles an hour with ‘Above The Law’, a track that gets off to a strong start with a big guitar riff and a steady drum beat! The vocals are mixed in a very 80s style with lots of reverb, and the versatility between clean vocals and screams is immediately noticeable, sometimes sounding like Vince Neil, other times like Rob Halford. The ultra-present backing vocals make you want to sing « Above the law » over and over and headbang!
Bazooka » finishes the job by adding a touch of glam to the chorus, with the lyrics « danger, danger » reminiscent of Tigertailz‘s hard/glam mix. The album also has a strong glam feel, with synths on « Concrete Jungle », and riffs that are easy to get into your head, as on the excellent « Same Ol’ Nasty Rock N’ Roll », which once again delivers a batch of choirs, high-pitched vocals and harmonious guitars. « Seventeen » is the classic 80s power ballad, built around a guitar arpeggio in the verses, occasionally backed up by whistling, bringing its share of emotion before the tone hardens on the solo and at the end of the track.
The rhythmic « Ride My Rocket », meanwhile, brings its share of suggestive lyrics, with a strong second degree, which nonetheless gives way to a very entertaining track and a new batch of big solos! « Velvet Snakeskin » brings the album to a perfect close, with a big, heavy track featuring guitars reminiscent of Steel Panther’s « 17 Girls in A Row », for those who love lyrical guitars!
With Serpent’s Kiss, CobraKill offer a new album that will delight fans of the first album, while also attracting new fans! It’s a clever blend of heavy metal and glam, with a very convincing result. Highly accessible and energetic, it’s a safe bet that this album is a must-have for fans of hard rock, heavy metal and even metal in the broadest sense!
