La France regorge de groupes présents pour faire vivre la scène hard rock et heavy. C’est dans cette optique que Eve’s Bite voit le jour en 2014 à Saint Etienne, en mêlant ses influences diverses pour aboutir à des sonorités qui vont faire écho au hair metal 80s ! Après deux EP, le groupe sort son premier album Blessed In Hell ce 26 janvier sur le label M&O Music.

L’album commence sur le titre “Fire, Fire, Disaster”, un titre assez lourd et saccadé qui donne un bon aperçu des capacités du groupe : duo basse – batterie lourd, rythmiques de guitares donnant envie de headbanguer et une voix oscillant entre un côté parfois rauque, parfois plus aiguë avec laquelle on a rapidement envie de reprendre en choeurs ce “fire, fire, disaster” en refrain ! “She’s Got More Balls Than You” montre la part de second degré du groupe avec un texte très parodique et ironique, mais secondé par un morceau qui accélère la cadence par rapport à son prédécesseur, plus heavy cette fois ! On retrouve tout ce qui fait un morceau efficace dans le genre : des parties de guitares qui donnent matière à un duel improvisé de air guitar, et des refrains qui rentrent en tête dès la première écoute.
Pour les amateurs de titre plus hard rock / glam, le titre “Feel The Heat…” apporte son lot d’originalité avec son riff saccadé et son refrain ultra mélodique qui va parfois rappeler Scorpions. “Shits On The Radio” apporte quant à lui un côté presque rock’n’roll, avec des paroles évoquant les fameux “groupes / artistes de merde” qui passent à la radio. La power ballade incontournable pour tout album de hard / heavy 80s sera à retrouver en la personne de “Locked In My Dreams”, et sera une bonne surprise pour découvrir la beauté et la justesse de la voix lead, dans un registre où il y a moins besoin de pousser que les précédents titres. On retrouvera cependant une puissance vocale qui me fait facilement penser à celle de Sebastian Bach sur “In A Darkened Room” de Skid Row.
On peut aussi retrouver un lot de riffs lorgnant vers le blues sur “Inside Your Devil Eyes”, le tout merveilleusement bien intégré à un morceau de heavy donnant une ambiance très roots au morceau. “Waiting For The Night” vient clôturer l’album de la meilleure des manières avec un morceau de heavy rapide et puissant, où on retrouve son lot de batterie ravageuse, d’harmonies de guitares et de screams puissants. On se verra même gratifié d’un solo qui me fera penser à du Megadeth par égard et appuyé par différents blasts de batterie !
Eve’s Bite nous dévoile donc un album très orienté hard rock / heavy 80s où nous avons l’occasion de découvrir l’étendue des capacités du groupe à proposer des morceaux originaux tout en ne dénigrant pas ses influences. C’est ainsi que l’on retrouve des guitares que l’on sent influencés à la fois par le hard rock et par le speed / thrash metal, des basses et batteries qui auraient leur place chez Motörhead ou Judas Priest et une voix qui fait la part belle aux screams mais toujours en gardant un fort aspect mélodique que l’on peut particulièrement ressentir sur certains morceaux chantés. A conseiller à tous les fans de Skid Row, Mötley Crüe, ou encore Crashdïet.

France is full of bands who are there to keep the hard rock and heavy metal scene alive. With this in mind, Eve’s Bite was born in 2014 in Saint Etienne, blending their diverse influences to come up with sounds that will echo 80s hair metal! After two EPs, the band are releasing their debut album Blessed In Hell this January 26th on the M&O Music label.
The album opens with « Fire, Fire, Disaster », a fairly heavy, jerky track that gives a good idea of the band’s capabilities: heavy bass-drums duet, guitar rhythms that make you want to headbang and a voice that oscillates between a sometimes hoarse, sometimes higher-pitched side that quickly makes you want to sing along to the « fire, fire, disaster » refrain! « She’s Got More Balls Than You » shows the band’s second-degree side with a highly parodic and ironic lyric, but it’s backed up by a track that picks up the pace compared to its heavier predecessor! It’s got everything that makes an effective track in this genre: guitar parts that make for an improvisational air guitar duel, and choruses that get stuck in your head from the first listen.
For fans of more hard rock/glam tracks, « Feel The Heat… » has its share of originality, with a jangly riff and an ultra-melodic chorus sometimes reminiscent of Scorpions. « Shits On The Radio » has an almost rock’n’roll feel to it, with lyrics evoking the notorious « shit bands/artists » that get played on the radio. Locked In My Dreams » is the essential power ballad on any 80s hard/heavy album, and it’s a pleasant surprise to discover the beauty and accuracy of the lead vocals, in a register where there’s less need to push than on the previous tracks. The vocal power is reminiscent of Sebastian Bach‘s on Skid Row‘s ‘In A Darkened Room’.
« Inside Your Devil Eyes » also features a number of bluesy riffs, all wonderfully integrated with a heavy track to give it a very rootsy feel. « Waiting For The Night » brings the album to a fitting close with a fast, powerful heavy track featuring devastating drums, guitar harmonies and powerful screams. We’re even treated to a solo that reminds me of Megadeth, supported by various drum blasts!
Eve’s Bite is a very 80s hard rock/heavy metal album, giving us an opportunity to discover the full extent of the band’s ability to come up with original tracks without denying their influences. The guitars are influenced by both hard rock and speed/thrash metal, the bass and drums by Motörhead or Judas Priest, and the vocals give pride of place to screams while retaining a strong melodic aspect that is particularly noticeable on some of the sung tracks. A must for fans of Skid Row, Mötley Crüe and Crashdïet.
