Après un début de semaine en fanfare à La Bulle Café avec Gravekvlt, il était temps de s’y retrouver en fin de semaine pour un autre concert que l’on attendait de pied ferme. En effet, Junon viennent nous présenter en avant première des nouveaux titres issus de leur album Dragging Bodies To A Fall, prévu pour le 15 mars prochain chez Source Atone Records. Nous sommes également ravis de retrouver pour les accompagner Sunstare, quasi un an jour pour jour après leur précédent show dans la métropole lilloise. C’est donc prêts à nous prendre une avalanche de décibels dans les oreilles que nous nous rendons à La Bulle Café pour cette soriée encore craftée avec talent par Cerbère Coryphée.

Le public est prêt et c’est donc Sunstare qui montent sur scène pour nous dérouler leur doom sludge qu’on aime tant. Les quatre musiciens commencent directement très fort en nous proposant le meilleur de leur discographie. Peb est en très grande forme et vit, comme toujours, totalement chaque morceau comme habité par les histoires sumériennes que le groupe  nous raconte. Les riffs et rythmiques résonnent avec puissance dans nos tympans et on se plonge totalement dans l’univers développé par la formation. Antoine (batterie) et Tom (basse) forment un duo dantesque qui retourne nos entrailles avec un son puissant qui ne laisse rien au hasard. La frappe sur la batterie est chirurgicale et nous fait headbanger tout le long du set. Le public est silencieux pour respecter l’atmosphère pesante des morceaux du groupe, mais applaudit chaleureusement entre chaque titre, conquis par la performance qui se déroule devant nos yeux. A la guitare, Vince nous emporte avec des riffs lourds qui collent parfaitement avec l’ambiance des morceaux. La prestation est excellente et nous rappelle pourquoi Sunstare nous avaient autant manqué pendant cette longue année. Après une dernière décharge de puissance le groupe nous remercie de l’accueil et quitte la scène très largement applaudi. On espère ne pas avoir à attendre autant de temps pour pouvoir les revoir en live et on les remercie pour cette excellente prestation qui a clairement tenu toutes ses promesses.

Petite pause et c’est parti pour le set de Junon. Première surprise, le groupe accueille un nouveau bassiste dans ses rangs qui n’est autre que Clément leur ancien batteur à l’époque de General Lee. Le groupe commence directement avec une nouveauté « Perdition Of Disorder » qui annonce déjà de belles choses pour le futur de la formation nordiste. Arnaud chante comme si se vie en dépendait et semble déjà très bien maîtriser les nouveaux titres. Le public est étrangement calme ce qui ne manque pas de surprendre Fabien (guitare) qui nous incite à y mettre un peu plus d’énergie! Le groupe enchaîne avec le single « Out Of Suffering » qui prend une toute autre dimension en live, et nous prouve qu’il deviendra bien un des morceaux cultes du sextet. Comme toujours ce qui impressionne le plus avec Junon, c’est leur talent de faire cohabiter trois guitares sur scène sans qu’une ne prenne le pas sur les autres. Chaque musicien à la place de proposer ses meilleures lignes tout en sublimant celles des autres. Côté batterie on saluera la performance de Florian sur un titre comme « Dead Ends ». En plus des nouveaux morceaux, le groupe n’oublie évidemment pas les titres de son EP précédent avec les quatre titres joués ce soir pour notre plus grand plaisir. Le set ne faiblit jamais en intensité et nous montre que ce premier album sous le nom de Junon s’annonce dévastateur! On en prend plein les oreilles et on adore ça! « Flood Preachers » est toujours un passage marquant du set et on sent enfin que le réveil de la fosse arrive. Pour terminer en beauté les musiciens nous offrent « Another Bar » et « The Bleeding » qui nous laissent avec un denrier mur sonore destiné à nous faire remuer la tête en rythme. Chacun met un dernier coup sur ses cordes, sa voix ou ses fûts pour nous mettre une belle dernière claque et nous laisser avec la furieuse envie de découvrir l’album.

Junon ont livré une prestation qui donne une belle idée de ce qui nous attends courant mars avec la sortie de leur nouvel album. On avait hâte de retrouver le groupe et clairement leur set à été à la hauteur de nos attentes! On vous encourage à vous repasser l’EP et à aller écouter l’album dès qu’il sera disponible. En tout cas on vous en parlera sans hésiter ici même. On quitte la Bulle en ayant encore une fois passé une très belle soirée en compagnie de deux groupes qui font briller la scène française à chacun de leurs passages.

After a great start to the week at La Bulle Café with Gravekvlt, it was time to meet up again at the end of the week for another eagerly-awaited concert. Junon will be previewing new tracks from their album Dragging Bodies To A Fall, due for release on Source Atone Records on 15 March. We’re also delighted to be joined by Sunstare, almost a year to the day after their last show in Lille. So we’re ready to take an avalanche of decibels in our ears as we head to La Bulle Café for this evening, once again skilfully crafted by Cerbère Coryphée.

With the crowd ready, Sunstare take to the stage to unleash their beloved doom sludge. The four musicians get things off to a flying start with the best of their discography. Peb is in top form and, as always, brings each track to life as if inhabited by the Sumerian stories the band are telling us. The riffs and rhythms resonate powerfully in our eardrums and we’re totally immersed in the universe developed by the band. Antoine (drums) and Tom (bass) form a Dantesque duo who turn our insides out with a powerful sound that leaves nothing to chance. The drumming is surgical and keeps us headbanging throughout the set. The audience is silent to respect the heavy atmosphere of the band’s songs, but applauds warmly between each track, conquered by the performance unfolding before our eyes. On guitar, Vince sweeps us away with heavy riffs that fit perfectly with the mood of the tracks. The performance was excellent, and reminded us why we’d missed Sunstare so much over the past year. After a final burst of power, the band thank us for the warm welcome and leave the stage to rapturous applause. We hope we won’t have to wait so long to see them live again, and we thank them for an excellent performance that clearly lived up to all its promises.

After a short break, it’s time for Junon‘s set. First surprise, the band welcomes a new bassist into its ranks, none other than Clément, their former drummer in the General Lee era. The band kick things off straight away with a new track, ‘Perdition Of Disorder’, which already promises great things for the future of this northern band. Arnaud sings as if his life depended on it and already seems to have mastered the new songs. The crowd was strangely quiet, which surprised Fabien (guitar) who urged us to put a bit more energy into it! The band followed up with the single « Out Of Suffering », which took on a whole new dimension live, proving that it would become one of the sextet’s cult tracks. As ever, the most impressive thing about Juno is their ability to get three guitars to work together on stage without one taking over from the others. Each musician has the space to offer his or her best lines while sublimating those of the others. As for the drums, Florian‘s performance on a track like ‘Dead Ends’ is to be commended. As well as the new songs, the band obviously didn’t forget the tracks from their previous EP, with the four tracks played tonight to our great delight. The set never falters in intensity and shows us that this first album under the name of Junon promises to be devastating! We’re in for an earful and we love it! « Flood Preachers » is always a highlight of the set and you can finally feel the pit waking up. Another Bar » and « The Bleeding » bring the set to a close with a final wall of sound designed to make you shake your head to the beat. Each musician puts one last blow on his strings, his voice or his drums to give us a nice last slap and leave us with a furious desire to discover the album.

Junon put in a performance that gave us a good idea of what to expect in March with the release of their new album. We couldn’t wait to see the band again, and their set clearly lived up to our expectations! We’d encourage you to listen to the EP again and check out the album as soon as it’s available. We’re leaving La Bulle having once again had a wonderful evening in the company of two bands who make the French scene shine with each of their appearances.
