Les soirées de concert s’enchaînent et ne se ressemblent pas à Lille ! Ce 20 janvier, Hair Dynazty organise une soirée résolument hard rock, invitant Thin Veil pour le premier concert du groupe et les Allemands de Black Sheriff, en tournée dans nos contrées. La fête se déroule au Pico Bistrot, et c’est avec enthousiasme que nous nous y rendons, avides de nouvelles découvertes musicales.

Avant même l’ouverture de la cave du Pico, le bar est complètement saturé tant le public s’est déplacé en masse. Non sans mal, tout ce petit monde s’amasse au sous-sol et c’est parti pour Thin Veil. Le groupe lillois se produit aujourd’hui pour la première fois de sa très jeune carrière ! On découvre donc cette formation, dont le guitariste, Jesse, attire rapidement le regard, nous rappelant au premier coup d’œil le style de Overdrivers. Et aux premières notes, on se dit que le groupe est très probablement dans leurs influences… On est sur un son résolument hard rock. La section rythmique a une belle place lors de certains passages leur laissant le rôle central. Malgré quelques approximations rythmiques, Thin Veil arrive à dégager une belle énergie, Yann (chant) réussissant à embarquer le public. Chaque musicien arrive à prendre sa place, ne laissant personne de côté, tout en ayant un rendu équilibré. Jesse changera de guitare au besoin, et nous entendrons également un petit solo de batterie faisant office de transition. Malgré quelques problèmes techniques, notamment au niveau du micro, Thin Veil garde le cap et assure le show. Sur les compositions plus énergiques, le public se met à bouger et quelques pogos éclatent dans l’espace confiné du Pico Bistrot. Le groupe nous proposera également quelques reprises plutôt originales et bien accueillies. Le public se déchainera sur les derniers morceaux, et Thin Veil sortira de scène sous les applaudissements de la salle. Même si le tout n’est pas encore complètement abouti, la qualité de la prestation est remarquable pour un premier concert !
Une petite pause afin de découvrir les nouveautés des brasseries locales proposées au Pico Bistrot et on redescend pour découvrir les Allemands de Black Sheriff. Le public n’étant pas redescendu assez vite au goût de Glen (chant/guitare), celui-ci montera, guitare à la main, pour ameuter les trainards. On sent d’entrée de jeu que le trio a déjà roulé sa bosse, que ce soit avec Black Sheriff ou bien avec d’autres formations. Les influences Motörhead sautent aux yeux, que ce soit au niveau du style de Glen (chapeau de cowboy et santiags) que par la bouteille de Jack Daniels posée dans un coin, qui servira à plusieurs reprises à désaltérer les musiciens. Diego (basse), assure nonchalamment le show, veste de cowboy sur les épaules, avec une rythmique qui fait mouche. Côté batterie, Lukas assure, sans fioritures superflues. Le hard rock des Sheriffs Noirs, comme ils vont plusieurs fois se présenter dans un français vraiment pas si mauvais, est entrainant, dansant et efficace. Glen est un showman hors pair qui n’hésite pas à grimper sur tout le mobilier à sa disposition. Il ira jusqu’à lancer sa guitare dans la foule (qui heureusement réussira à la récupérer sans dommage), se rouler au sol en continuant à jouer, faire jouer les organisateurs et les groupes précédents sur sa guitare… Bref il assure l’ambiance et il est très difficile de ne pas entrer dans son jeu, tant la bonne humeur est communicative et spontanée. Le groupe fera face à divers problèmes techniques mais règlera le tout dans cette attitude toujours positive. Fort de ses compositions, Black Sheriff nous jouera toutefois une reprise en hommage à Kiss qu’ils apprécient tout particulièrement, avec « Black Diamond ». Après un final explosif à grand renforts d’étincelles sur « Vietnam », le groupe nous offrira un dernier titre tout aussi énergique, sans oublier de nous enjoindre à passer par leur merch avant de partir.
Ce fut donc une bien belle soirée qui nous a été offerte par Hair Dynazty, n’hésitant pas à miser sur des groupes débutants. Cela s’avère payant au vu du public venu en masse pour assister à cet événement. Les allemands de Black Sheriff ont fait le show et on ne peut que vous recommander de foncer les voir lors de leur prochain passage ! Malgré une soirée sous le signe des problèmes techniques, les groupes ont su garder leur bonne humeur et faire vivre l’esprit rock’n roll. Show must go on, et Sounding Shivers sera là pour voir les prochains !

One concert evening follows another in Lille! On 20 January, Hair Dynazty organised a resolutely hard rock evening, inviting Thin Veil for the band’s first concert and the Germans from Black Sheriff, on tour in our country. The party is taking place at the Pico Bistrot, and we’re delighted to be there, eager to make some new musical discoveries.

Even before the Pico cellar opened, the bar was completely saturated with people. It wasn’t easy to get everyone into the basement and Thin Veil were off. The band from Lille are playing today for the first time in their very young career! The band’s guitarist, Jesse, quickly catches the eye, reminding us at first glance of the style of Overdrivers. And from the first notes, it’s clear that the band’s influences are undoubtedly their own… The sound is resolutely hard rock. The rhythm section takes pride of place in certain passages, giving them the central role. Despite a few rhythmic approximations, Thin Veil manage to exude a great deal of energy, with Yann (vocals) managing to get the audience on board. Each musician manages to take their place, leaving no-one out, while maintaining a well-balanced sound. Jesse changes guitars as required, and we also hear a short drum solo as a transition. Despite a few technical problems, notably with the microphone, Thin Veil stayed the course and delivered the show. On the more energetic compositions, the audience starts to move and a few pogos erupt in the confined space of the Pico Bistrot. The band also played some original covers, which were well received. The crowd went wild for the last few songs, and Thin Veil left the stage to rapturous applause. Even if the whole thing isn’t quite there yet, the quality of the performance is remarkable for a first concert!
A quick break to discover the latest from the local breweries at the Pico Bistrot and we’re back down to discover Germany’s Black Sheriff. Glen (vocals/guitar) didn’t get the crowd down fast enough, so he went upstairs, guitar in hand, to stir up the crowd. From the outset, you can tell that the trio have already been around the block, whether with Black Sheriff or other bands. The Motörhead influences are obvious, both in Glen‘s style (cowboy hat and boots) and in the bottle of Jack Daniels in the corner, which is used on several occasions to quench the musicians’ thirst. Diego (bass) nonchalantly takes charge of the show, cowboy jacket over his shoulders, with a rhythm that really hits the spot. As for the drums, Lukas delivers without any superfluous frills. The hard rock of Les Sheriffs Noirs, as they will introduce themselves several times in French that really isn’t that bad, is catchy, danceable and effective. Glen is an unrivalled showman who has no qualms about climbing on any piece of furniture at his disposal. He’ll go so far as to throw his guitar into the crowd (who fortunately manage to recover it without damage), roll around on the floor while continuing to play, get the organisers and previous bands to play his guitar… In short, he sets the mood, and it’s hard not to get caught up in his infectious, spontaneous good humour. The band had to contend with a number of technical problems, but managed to resolve them all with the same positive attitude. Black Sheriff’s compositions were strong, but they also played a cover version of their favourite Kiss song, ‘Black Diamond’. After an explosive finale with plenty of sparks on ‘Vietnam’, the band offered us a final track just as energetic, not forgetting to urge us to stop by their merch before leaving.
Hair Dynazty put on a great evening, not hesitating to bet on new bands. And it paid off, given the massive turnout for the event. Germany’s Black Sheriff put on a great show, and we can only recommend that you go and see them the next time they play! Despite an evening plagued by technical problems, the bands kept up their good humour and kept the rock’n’roll spirit alive. Show must go on, and Sounding Shivers will be there to see those next time!
