Après un premier EP très réussi en 2019, le groupe de hardcore boosté aux sous genres les plus variés possible, Something Animal nous proposent en ce début d’année une nouvelle sortie. Premier EP d’un triptyque, Bestial Curse Part 1. sera disponible dès le 2 février prochain en autoproduction. Cinq titres au noms d’animaux intrigants qu’on part écouter de ce pas!

Les riffs de « Rats » nous lancent tête la première dans ce nouvel EP! D’entrée on comprend que Daz compte bien ne nous laisser aucune chance avec son chant ultra puissant. En quelques minutes on passe du hardcore le plus vindicatif à des riffs mathcore qui nous retournent le cerveau. D’ailleurs il faut parler quelques secondes du travail des guitares de P.A. et Heddy, qui n’hésitent pas à balancer une grosse technique entre deux mosh parts des plus réussies. Et ce mélange fonctionne à merveille! Chaque morceau, véritable fable montrant que les comportements humains peuvent se rapprocher d’animaux très différents, nous livre une vision du monde bien sentie qui ne se perd jamais non plus dans le misérabilisme. La batterie de Mathieu se déchaine sur « Dove », qu’on aurait pu attendre plus doux mais il n’en est rien. Le morceau laisse le duo qu’il forme avec Mike à la basse nous montrer toute sa puissance. La tornade est lancée et prête à ne plus s’arrêter et « Bird » le confirme aisément. La diversité des compositions permet de voir que le groupe n’a toujours pas choisi, et c’est tant mieux, vers quel sous genre faire pencher son hardcore. On quitte le groupe provisoirement avec l’excellent « L.I.O.N » qui donne à la formation une dernière occasion de nous mettre une énorme claque derrière la tête avant de nous donner rendez-vous pour la suite de cette trilogie.
Bestial Curse Part 1. démarre la nouvelle aventure de Something Animal avec un mélange de musique mélodiquement violente et de noirceur comme on l’aime. En un peu plus de 16 minutes on voit tout le travail proposé par la formation et on sent que la suite à de belles choses à nous proposer. N’hésitez pas à vous mettre cet EP dans les oreilles dès sa sortie, et de notre côté on attend autant les deux autres parties à venir que les futures dates du groupe.

The riffs of ‘Rats’ launch us headfirst into this new EP! From the outset, it’s clear that Daz intends to leave us no chance with his ultra-powerful vocals. In the space of a few minutes, we go from the most vindictive hardcore to brain-bending mathcore riffs. And let’s not forget to mention the guitar work of P.A. and Heddy, who don’t hesitate to throw in some serious technique between two highly successful mosh parts. And the mix works like a charm! Each track, a real fable showing that human behaviour can be very similar to that of very different animals, delivers a well-felt vision of the world that never loses itself in misery. Mathieu‘s drums unleash their fury on ‘Dove’, which might have been expected to be gentler, but is not. The track lets the duet he forms with Mike on bass show us all its power. The tornado is set in motion and ready not to stop, and ‘Bird’ easily confirms this. The diversity of the compositions shows that the band still haven’t decided which sub-genre to go for in their hardcore, and that’s just as well. We leave the band for the time being with the excellent ‘L.I.O.N’, which gives the band one last chance to give us a huge slap in the back of the head, before we meet up again for the next part of this trilogy.
Bestial Curse Part 1. kicks off Something Animal‘s new adventure with a mix of melodically violent music and the kind of darkness we love. Just over 16 minutes in, it shows just how much work the band have put in, and it’s clear that there’s more to come. Don’t hesitate to get this EP into your ears as soon as it’s released, and we’re looking forward to the other two parts as much as to the band’s future dates.
