Formés en Italie en 2009, Mr. Bison se sont fait un nom avec des albums largement acclamé, comme leur concept album Seaward sorti en 2020. Cette année le groupe nous propose de découvrir son nouvel album intitulé Echoes From The Universe. Cette nouvelle sortie est dors et déjà disponible via Heavy Psych Sounds. Dès l’intro le mélange des claviers et de guitares nous plonge dans l’univers entre prof et psychés des italiens. Les harmonies vocales sont envoutantes, tout comme la voix de Matteo Sciocchetto qui nous fait vivre chaque note et nous envoie un peu plus loin dans l’émotion. La guitare acoustique de Davide Salvadori fait son apparition en milieu de morceau pour un petit passage qui fonctionne à merveille. Les titres suivants nous donnent l’occasion de profiter du travail de Lorenzo Salvadori à la batterie. Jamais dans la démonstration, il joue avec les tripes et renforce notre immersion avec sa versatilité.
La force du groupe réside dans sa grande capacité à nous livrer des compositions variées qui viennent chercher dans de nombreuses influences dans différents genres sans que cela ne soit brouillon. On retrouve évidemment un gros son psyché, mais la vibe prog du groupe se ressent aussi énormément sur des titres comme « Dead In The Eye ». Matteo Barsacchi et Matteo Sciocchetto alternent les instruments avec brio et nous proposent des parties rythmiques imparables qu’on a envie de se repasser en boucle.
Chaque titre est une véritable aventure en soi, et Davide Salvadori renforce cette impression avec son alternance entre guitare acoustique, mellotron, orgue Hammond… Dans chaque cas il livre une prestation impériale qui donne au son du groupe une identité très forte. La durée des compositions permet également de s’y plonger en profondeur pour en déceler toutes les subtilités. On ressent toute l’envie et la passion des quatre musiciens dans des titres comme « The Promise » ou encore l’excellent « Staring At The Sun » qui clôt cet album en beauté, avec des musiciens qui nous livrent leur tout meilleur.
Echoes From The Universe cimente Mr. Bison dans la catégorie des groupes incontournables du heavy psyché. Les quatre italiens nous proposent une musique dont eux seuls ont le secret, véritable invitation au voyage mental. Chaque titre est une petite pépite, à cheval entre les genres, qui s’écoute à l’envie tant les subtilités sont nombreuses. Un très bel album qui nous donne envie de nous replonger dans le reste de leur discographie.

Right from the intro, the mix of keyboards and guitars plunges us into the world of the Italians, somewhere between prof and psyche. The vocal harmonies are spellbinding, as is Matteo Sciocchetto‘s voice, which brings every note to life and sends us further into the depths of emotion. Davide Salvadori‘s acoustic guitar makes an appearance in the middle of the track for a short passage that works perfectly. The following tracks give us a chance to enjoy Lorenzo Salvadori’s work on drums. Never one to show off, he plays with his guts and reinforces our immersion with his versatility.
The band’s strength lies in their ability to deliver varied compositions that draw on a wide range of influences from different genres without sounding muddled. There’s obviously a big psychedelic sound, but the band’s prog vibe is also very much in evidence on tracks like ‘Dead In The Eye’. Matteo Barsacchi and Matteo Sciocchetto alternate instruments brilliantly and deliver unstoppable rhythm parts that you’ll want to play over and over again.
Each track is an adventure in itself, and Davide Salvadori reinforces this impression with his alternation between acoustic guitar, mellotron, Hammond organ… In each case he delivers an imperial performance that gives the band’s sound a very strong identity. The length of the compositions also allows you to delve deep into them to detect all the subtleties. You can feel all the desire and passion of the four musicians on tracks like « The Promise » and the excellent « Staring At The Sun », which closes the album in style, with the musicians delivering their very best.
Echoes From The Universe cements Mr. Bison as one of the heavy psych’s essential bands. The four Italians offer us music that only they know the secret of, an invitation to a mental journey. Each track is a little nugget, straddling the genre divide, with so many subtleties you’ll want to listen to over and over again. A beautiful album that makes us want to dive back into the rest of their discography.
