Tel un marronnier, Los Fastidios reviennent inlassablement tous les ans visiter la Brat Cave. A chaque fois, les italiens créent une ambiance incroyable grâce à leur ska punk et leur énergie et nous embarquent pour un show des plus chauds ! On ne se voyait donc pas manquer la fête ! Ce 18 février 2024, ils sont accompagnés des locaux de Carlo’s Not Dead, histoire de rajouter un grain de folie à cette soirée !

On entame ce pluvieux dimanche soir avec des vestes à fleurs, des casquettes à hélice et des perruques à crête multicolore. Le sourire de Carlos est affiché dans le fond de la scène et Carlo’s not dead est prêt à nous communiquer toute cette joyeuse énergie. La sauce prend rapidement, le public reprenant avec plaisir les refrains de « Tirelipimpon » ou « Big Bisou » que tous connaissent par cœur, le tout revisité à la sauce punk. Les musiciens montrent également une jovialité contagieuse et échangent de manière spontanée avec la salle. On retombe un peu tous en enfance, à une époque où on ne comprenait pas forcément tous les aspects graveleux des paroles de Carlos, sans quitter notre identité désormais punk. Côté scénographie, le groupe a peaufiné son spectacle à son image, avec des accessoires et costumes travaillés sans se prendre au sérieux. Ainsi on nous lance des billets, on nous chante « Les Indiens » avec un chapeau percé d’une flèche… Le tout se déroule dans une ambiance bon enfant, un poil potache, mais joyeuse. On a tout de même bien conscience que certains messages véhiculés passeraient vraiment moins bien à l’heure actuelle, et on ne peut que se réjouir de certaines avancées de la société. Carlo’s not Dead nous présente également des compositions de leur cru. On vous laisse deviner le sujet de « Du Carlos un point c’est tout » ou « Carlos était un punk ». « Le Drapeau » nous sort tout de même un peu de Carlos, nous comptant une histoire de festival et de vol de drapeau du groupe. Les musiciens donnent de leur personne, nous montrant un jeu d’acteur convaincant, notamment sur « Dis pourquoi papa ? ». Le public entame une chenille magistrale, tournant en rond tel un circle pit de carnaval pendant toute la durée de « Kikouyou ». On termine le set sourire aux lèvres, et très agréablement surpris par l’efficacité du groupe, qualitatif sans prise de tête ou grande prétention. Tout ce qu’il nous fallait pour se chauffer en ce début de soirée !
Le changement de plateau laisse le temps à une bonne partie du public de passer au stand de merch, bien fourni pour les deux groupes. Los Fastidios, qui sont désormais des têtes familières à la Brat montent sur scène, devant un public prêt à les accueillir comme il se doit. Et les danses commenceront dès les premières notes. Le ska entraînant du groupe produit toujours son effet libérateur et presque magique. Les épaules se secouent, les corps bougent joyeusement dans tous les sens… Après quelques titres ayant bien chauffé la salle, Elisa Dixan rejoint la scène et prend le micro pour continuer le set en double voix avec Enrico. Les messages prônés par le groupe sont sérieux, revendicatifs, et critiques envers la société. En pêle-mêle, on y retrouve la cause animale avec « Animal Liberation », la critique de la guerre, l’humanisme, scandant « Fight the system, not the people », le féminisme avec notamment « Beverley»… Les filles et femmes présentes dans la salle seront d’ailleurs invitées à partager la scène quelques minutes avec Elisa, Enrico lui-même prenant du recul sur ce titre pour faire la part belle au message. L’antifascisme reste leur fer de lance, avec notamment leur titre phare, scandé par toute l’assemblée « Antifa Hooligans ». Le français épatant d’Enrico permet à toute la salle de profiter distinctement des messages portés par le groupe. Une première fin de concert est annoncée sur « Take a Stand ». Mais on connait le groupe et on se doute qu’ils en ont encore sous la pédale. Et effectivement, le groupe rejouera encore au moins autant de titres, portant le concert à une grosse heure et demie. On ne voit pas le temps passer, ayant l’impression de faire partie d’une fête, portant des valeurs qui nous sont chères, comme la célébration de se retrouver tous sous une même bannière d’antifascisme. Avant de repartir, Los Fastidios fera un petit clin d’œil à une légende du ska en reprenant « Three Minutes Hero » de The Selecter. Une dernière version de « Antifa Hooligan » nous fera encore danser et transpirer avant de quitter le groupe… qui nous promet de revenir à la Brat Cave !
Los Fastidios est une célébration de toutes les luttes chères à nos cœurs, prenant le parti de la bonne humeur, de la joie, mais sans jamais délaisser leurs valeurs progressistes, antiracistes, et prônant le respect de tous. Ils nous ont encore offert ce soir une petite bulle de bonheur. Les danses de la soirée font chaud au cœur, et on repart léger et heureux. Il paraît qu’ils sont de retour en août à Tournai… Rendez-vous là-bas !

Los Fastidios are a regular fixture at the Brat Cave every year. Each time, the Italians create an incredible atmosphere with their ska punk and energy, and take us away for one of the hottest shows around! So we couldn’t see ourselves missing the party! On 18 February 2024, they’ll be joined by locals Carlo’s Not Dead, just to add a little extra zing to the evening!

We begin this rainy Sunday evening wearing floral jackets, propeller caps and multicoloured crested wigs. Carlos‘s smile is plastered across the back of the stage and Carlo’s not dead is ready to give us all that happy energy. The band quickly got into the swing of things, with the audience happily singing along to the choruses of ‘Tirelipimpon’ and ‘Big Bisou’, which they all know by heart, all revisited with a punk twist. The musicians were also infectiously jovial, spontaneously chatting to the audience. We’re all thrown back into childhood, to a time when we didn’t necessarily understand all the gravelly aspects of Carlos‘ lyrics, without losing our punk identity. In terms of set design, the band have fine-tuned their show in their own image, with props and costumes that have been worked on without taking themselves too seriously. Tickets are thrown at us, we sing « Les Indiens » with a hat pierced by an arrow… The whole thing takes place in a good-natured, slightly light-hearted but happy atmosphere. Even so, we’re well aware that some of the messages conveyed wouldn’t go down so well in today’s world, and we can only rejoice at some of the advances society has made. Carlo’s not Dead also present some of their own compositions. We’ll let you guess the subject of ‘Du Carlos un point c’est tout’ or ‘Carlos était un punk’. « Le Drapeau » (The Flag) takes us away from Carlos for a while, telling us a story about a festival and the theft of the band’s flag. The musicians give their all, showing us some convincing acting, particularly on « Dis pourquoi papa? The audience then got into a masterful chenille , spinning in circles like a carnival circle pit for the duration of ‘Kikouyou’. We finished the set with a smile on our faces, pleasantly surprised by the band’s efficiency and quality, without any head-scratching or pretentiousness. Just what we needed to warm up the early evening!
The change of set gave a good chunk of the audience time to get to the merch stand, which was well-stocked for both bands. Los Fastidios, who are now familiar faces at Brat, take to the stage, in front of an audience ready to welcome them as they should. And the dancing starts from the very first notes. The group’s driving ska always has a liberating, almost magical effect. Shoulders are shaking, bodies are moving joyfully in all directions… After a few songs that had got the room really fired up, Elisa Dixan joins the stage and takes the microphone to continue the set in double voice with Enrico. The band’s messages are serious, demanding and critical of society. Animal Liberation » is a jumble of animal rights, while « Fight the system, not the people » and « Beverley » are critical of war and humanism, as well as feminism. The girls and women in the audience are invited to share the stage with Elisa for a few minutes, with Enrico himself stepping back from the track to focus on the message. Anti-fascism remains their spearhead, with their flagship track « Antifa Hooligans » being chanted by the entire audience. Enrico‘s excellent French meant that the whole audience could clearly hear the band’s messages. The concert comes to a close with ‘Take a Stand’. But we know the band and we suspect they’ve still got it. And indeed, the band played at least as many songs again, bringing the concert to a full hour and a half. The time just flew by, with the impression of being part of a party, bearing values we hold dear, like the celebration of coming together under the same banner of anti-fascism. Before leaving, Los Fastidios paid tribute to a ska legend with a cover of The Selecter‘s ‘Three Minutes Hero’. A final version of ‘Antifa Hooligan’ will have us dancing and sweating before we leave the band… who promise to be back at the Brat Cave!
Los Fastidios is a celebration of all the struggles we hold dear to our hearts, embracing good humour and joy without ever abandoning their progressive, anti-racist values, and advocating respect for all. They gave us another little bubble of happiness this evening. The dances throughout the evening were heart-warming, and we left feeling light and happy. I hear they’re back in Tournai in August… See you there!
