Quoi de mieux que de clôturer une tournée par un retour à la maison ? Il semble que Vautours et Big Death Amego n’aient pas d’autre réponse à nous proposer. Pour bien terminer la semaine, et donc leur tournée, ce dimanche 18 février nous avons rejoint les deux groupes lillois dans la cave du Centre Culturel Libertaire. Pour l’occasion de cette soirée organisée par le label Merci Satan!, un troisième groupe, Exil, s’est joint aux festivités.

Le public s’amasse timidement devant la petite scène qui accueille Exil pour ouvrir la soirée. Le groupe lillois de post-black réchauffe doucement la foule en alternant des moments plus doux avec des passages énergiques. Le mélange entre post-rock et black se trouve être très équilibré, en plus d’être très agréable à écouter. On retrouve aussi dans la musique du quatuor des influences venues du folklore du Kazakhstan. Une bien belle découverte. 

Pour la suite de la soirée, c’est au tour de Vautours. Sur les 3 dernières années le groupe nous a partagé une trilogie d’EP et sont présents pour nous les faire (re)découvrir. Le quatuor de Noise Hardcore ne manque certainement pas d’énergie en cette fin de tournée, le retour à la maison devant cette petite cave remplie y est probablement pour quelque chose. La scène est petite et peine à maintenir cette énergie mais elle est loin de limiter les musiciens. Rémy (chant) est le premier à se rendre au milieu du public pour continuer le show avec encore plus de proximité, il est ensuite rejoint par Mathieu et sa guitare. Leur énergie et bonne humeur contamine le petit monde présent car il ne leur aura pas fallu longtemps avant que l’assemblée ne se lance dans de beaux moshpits. Une petite guerre bon enfant lors des discours se déroule ce soir entre Vautours et Big Death Amego et pourtant on y sent l’amitié et le bonheur de cette tournée partagée ! La preuve en est qu’Hugues n’hésite pas à sauter sur scène pour accompagner Rémy sur un des morceaux.

Pour clôturer cette soirée lilloise, c’est Big Death Amego qui mènera le rythme des pogos. Maintenant que tout le monde s’est échauffé, il n’y a des fois plus que les murs pour rattraper le public. La scène contient difficilement les cinq membres du groupe et on voit bien que les guitaristes et le bassiste auraient apprécié pouvoir se déplacer et sauter un peu plus. Mais Hugues n’hésite pas à leur laisser sa place en allant screamer au milieu des gens. Le quintet a clairement de l’énergie à revendre et celle-ci n’en semble que renforcée par la présence du public, mais aussi des ami.es parmi celui-ci. Parmi les moments de paroles de remerciements et de souvenirs sur cette tournée on apprend l’existence d’une bataille de merch, malheureusement Big Death Amego s’avoue vaincu, pour cette fois-ci. Big Death Amego a déjà eu l’occasion de présenter son nouvel EP Die Or Follow Me lors de quelques concerts sur Lille fin 2023. Ils sont fin prêts à attaquer 2024 ! 

Exil, Vautours et Big Death Amego nous ont renversé d’une vague énergique pleine de musique et de scream pour un dimanche soir; c’est plus qu’agréable de terminer une semaine de cette manière ! On a hâte de découvrir ce que les groupes nous réserve pour 2024, mais nous aurons très certainement l’occasion de les recroiser par ici !

What better way to end a tour than with a homecoming? It seems that Vautours and Big Death Amego have no other answer for us. To round off the week, and their tour, we joined the two Lille bands in the cellar of the Centre Culturel Libertaire on Sunday February 18th. A third band, Exil, joined the festivities for this evening organised by the Merci Satan! label.

The crowd shyly gathers in front of the small stage that welcomes Exil to open the evening. The Lille-based post-black band gently warm up the crowd, alternating softer moments with energetic passages. The mix of post-rock and black is well-balanced and a pleasure to listen to. The quartet’s music also includes influences from Kazakh folklore. A really nice discovery!

Following up, it’s Vautours‘ turn. Over the last 3 years, the band have shared a trilogy of EPs with us, and they’re here to let us (re)discover them. The Noise Hardcore quartet are certainly not short of energy as their tour draws to a close, and coming home to a packed cellar probably has something to do with it. The stage is small and struggles to maintain this energy, but it’s far from limiting the musicians. Rémy (vocals) is the first to go into the middle of the audience to continue the show with even more proximity, he is then joined by Mathieu and his guitar. Their energy and good humour infected the small crowd present, and it didn’t take long before the whole assembly was launching into some fine moshpits. Vautours and Big Death Amego got into a bit of a good-natured tug-of-war during the speeches, but you could feel the friendship and happiness of this shared tour! The proof is that Hugues doesn’t hesitate to jump on stage to accompany Rémy on one of the tracks.

To round off the evening in Lille, Big Death Amego will be leading the pogos. Now that everyone’s warmed up, the only thing left to catch up with the crowd are the walls. The stage hardly holds the five members of the band and it’s clear that the guitarists and bassist would have appreciated being able to move around and jump around a bit more. But Hugues doesn’t hesitate to make room for them by screaming in the middle of the crowd. The quintet clearly have energy to spare, and this is only reinforced by the presence of the audience and their friends. Amongst the words of thanks and memories of this tour, we learn of the existence of a merch battle, but unfortunately Big Death Amego admit defeat this time. Big Death Amego have already had the opportunity to present their new EP Die Or Follow Me at a few gigs in Lille at the end of 2023. Now they’re ready to take on 2024!

Exil, Vautours and Big Death Amego brought us down with an energetic wave of music and scream for a Sunday night; it’s more than nice to end a week this way! We can’t wait to find out what the bands have in store for us in 2024, but we’ll certainly be seeing them around here again!
