Enorme soirée en approche au Trianon en cette fin février! Les anglais de Enter Shikari sont de retour à Paris pour nous présenter leur dernier album en date, A Kiss For The Whole World, dont on vous a parlé ici à sa sortie. Les concerts des quatre anglais sont toujours de beaux moments de partage et d’énergie et on ne pouvait clairement pas manquer ça! Pour les accompagner, c’est Fever 333 et Blackout Problems qui ont été choisis pour réveiller la fosse, chose qui leur sera relativement aisé à la vue des dernières rencontres que l’on a pu avoir avec les deux formations.

Les lumières s’éteignent dans un Trianon déjà bien rempli et les allemands de Blackout Problems rejoignent le devant de la scène et lancent « DNA » que certains dans le public reprennent déjà en chœur. L’énergie de Mario Radetzky se ressent dès les premières secondes du show et ne faiblira pas de toute la performance, avec en plus des interventions dans un français parfait entre chaque titre! Le groupe annonce rapidement nous présenter quelques morceaux de son album Riot prévu pour quelques jours après la date. Les classiques comme « Germany, Germany » sont aussi de sortie et laissent la possibilité au public connaissant la formation allemande de s’époumoner avec eux. La fosse commence à bouger et l’arrivée du chanteur dans les gradins pour profiter de la proximité avec le public ne fera renforcer l’impression qu’on assiste là au meilleur show que le groupe a pu donner par chez nous. Les curieux présents tôt ce soir prennent en pleine tête la détermination du groupe allemand et son envie de montrer qu’ils sont à suivre de très près. Après l’excellent « WHALES » qui laisse présager du très bon pour le nouvel album, c’est sur « Rome » que le groupe nous dit aurevoir et merci. Mais avant ça les musiciens donneront tout une dernière fois et notre ami Mario ira reprendre un dernier bain de foule mais cette fois-ci au milieu de la fosse. C’est sur l’annonce de leur concert en tête d’affiche en octobre prochain au Supersonic que le groupe quitte la scène et nous donne rendez-vous très vite!
Impossible de passer à côté de la déferlante Blackout Problems! Les allemands mettent tout pour laisser une emprunte indélébile dans les mémoires du public, et vu les retours qu’on a pu entendre autour de nous ça a fonctionné pleinement! Depuis 2018 le groupe a conquis nos coeurs et ça n’est pas prêt de changer après cette prestation d’anthologie!
De longues années sans voir Fever 333 sur scène n’a fait que faire monter un peu plus notre excitation de les retrouver ce soir! C’est avec le mythique « Burn It » que Jason Aalon Butler et sa bande lancent les hostilités. Le pit se réveille d’un coup et c’est parti pour une grosse demi-heure de circle pits et autres pogos en tout genres. La puissance de la musique du combo californien est difficilement égalable et les messages véhiculés toujours aussi importants. Jason évoquera le tragique destin nos frères et sœurs palestinien.ne.s ainsi que la place des femmes et des personnes racisées dans les scènes musicales en passant en même temps en vibrant hommage à « Our Queen » April Kae la nouvelle bassiste de la formation. Le public évidemment très réceptif applaudit ces interventions comme il se doit et donne toujours plus d’énergie dans le pit. April et Jason se lanceront sur « Made In America » dans un concours de glissades sur scène mouillée. Tout au long du set Brandon Davis à la guitare, April à la basse et Thomas Pridgen à la batterie nous livrent leur tout meilleur, pendant que Jason vient rendre visite au balcon en grimpant directement depuis la scène. Le pit n’attendait que ça et avance en direction du musicien pour le rattraper après un saut qui restera dans les annales de la salle. C’est après une dernière décharge d’énergie musicale et politique en diable que le groupe nous quitte en annonçant un retour imminent en tête d’affiche sous des applaudissements toujours aussi chaleureux.
Un concert de Fever 333 est toujours un évènement et les retrouver un véritable plaisir. On sent que le nouveau line-up fonctionne à merveille et on est toujours ravis de pouvoir partager les valeurs fortes du groupe via des morceaux toujours plus entraînants à chaque fois. Une boule d’énergie musicale et politique qu’on ne se lasse pas de voir!
Les lumières s’éteignent dans la salle et Rou Reynolds arrive seul sur scène avec une maison en bord de falaise affichée sur l’écran géant en fond de scène. Tout le monde le sait, c’est « System… » qui commencera le set. Et c’est avec cette petite merveille a cappella que le concert est lancé! Les musiciens rejoignent vite la scène pour la seconde partie du morceau « …Meltdown » que toute la salle reprend en chœur tout en se lançant un pit déchainé. Les quatre anglais sont en grande forme, et même si la salle ne permet pas d’avoir le droit à la scénographie complète, on sait que le groupe de St Albans nous réverse de belles surprises. Après ce début en fanfare, il est temps de partir vivre ailleurs, et pourquoi pas sous la mer avec un « Giant Pacific Octopus »? Ce titre du dernier album est déjà connu par tout le monde et nous montre qu’une fois encore la formation est totalement en accord avec son temps, puisque le morceau évoque la thématique de l’amour et du genre avec brio.
La surprise de taille vient de la place toujours plus importante que prend Chris Batten au chant, et on ne boude clairement pas notre plaisir tant sa voix se mêle parfaitement à celle de Rou. Un électrocardiogramme sur l’écran nous annonce l’arrivée du tube « Anaesthetist » qui aura comme de coutume le droit à son outro drum & bass jouée live. Le groupe alterne entre les instruments, entre guitares, basses, claviers, pad électroniques, tout y passe pour une musique toujours plus vivante. De notre côté on chantera à tue tête « Torn Apart » titre qui figure toujours parmi nos préférés du groupe. Entre les morceaux Rou et Rob Rolfe s’essaient au français avec des résultats inégaux, mais une vraie envie de nous parler dans notre langue. En parlant de Rolfy, petit surnom de Rob, il est dans une forme olympique ce soir et nous donne le meilleur derrière ses fûts.
Le mélange sonore proposé par Enter Shikari ne cesse de nous ravir et ça n’est pas « Jail Break » ou « Sssnakepit » qui nous feront changer d’avis. D’ailleurs sur ces deux titres le chanteur nous montre une fois encore l’incroyable danseur qu’il est avec des pas toujours aussi uniques en leur genre. Ce dernier se retrouvera seul sur scène par la suite pour des versions semi acoustiques de titres normalement taillés pour le pit comme « Juggernauts »! C’est sur » Gap In The Fence » que le reste de la formation le rejoint avant l’excellent « The Sights » toujours repris par toute la salle.
Après un switch mémorable entre récent et anciens morceaux nous repartons au début pour un trio « Enter Shikari », « Mothership » et « Solidarity » qui laisseront aux fans l’occasion de retrouver leurs titres favoris qui en plus n’ont pas pris une ride! Pendant ce moment de nostalgie empli d’énergie, c’est au tour de Rory Clewlow de bouger dans tout les sens tout en continuant de nous livrer ses meilleures parties de guitare! Le public n’est toujours pas prêts à rester aussi immobile qu’une statue, et « satellites ** » ne nous incite pas à le faire plus! On remarque d’ailleurs que les mouvements de bras improbables de Rou sont connus de tous et nous font vivre encore un très beau moment de partage. C’est sur l’excellent « The Dreamer’s Hotel » que le groupe annonce que la fin approche! Mais l’écran nous annonce que si nous crions « Fuck Yes » nous repartons pour une dizaine de minutes supplémentaires.
Evidemment le groupe revient sur scène pour le titre symbole d’une génération : « Sorry You’re Not A Winner » qui donnera une dernière occasion au public de tout donner ! Dernière petite surprise nous aurons le droit à la version retravaillée par le groupe Pendulum, véritable vent de fraicheur sur un titre que l’on connait tous sur le bout des doigts. Puis c’est sur « A Kiss For The Whole World » que le groupe nous dit un dernier aurevoir sur un titre toujours aussi positif!
Encore une fois Enter Shikari nous ont proposé un show parfait mêlent toutes les périodes de la formation anglaise, au grand bonheur de tout le public. Ce groupe nous suit depuis de longues années et arrive toujours à nous impressionner avec de belles surprises et des versions inédites de titres de légende. Clairement une soirée qu’on ne va pas oublier de si tôt. On espère retrouver les quatre anglais sur nos terres lilloises très bientôt!

A huge evening is in store at the Trianon at the end of February! The English band Enter Shikari are back in Paris to present their latest album, A Kiss For The Whole World, which we told you about here when it was released. Concerts by these four Englishmen are always great moments of sharing and energy, and we clearly couldn’t miss it! To accompany them, Fever 333 and Blackout Problems have been chosen to wake up the pit, a relatively easy task given our recent encounters with the two bands.

The lights went down in an already packed Trianon and the Germans from Blackout Problems took centre stage, launching into « DNA », which some of the audience were already singing along to. You could feel Mario Radetzky‘s energy from the very first seconds of the show, and it didn’t let up for the whole performance, with the added bonus of him speaking perfect French between each track! The band quickly announced that they would be playing a few tracks from their new album, Riot, due out a few days after the show. Classics such as ‘Germany, Germany’ were also on show, giving fans familiar with the German band a chance to get into the groove with them. The pit started to move and the singer’s arrival in the stands to take advantage of the proximity with the audience only reinforced the impression that this was the best show the band had ever put on in our country. The onlookers who turned up early this evening were overwhelmed by the German band’s determination and their desire to show that they are a band to watch. After the excellent ‘WHALES’, which augurs well for the new album, it’s on ‘Rome’ that the band say goodbye and thank you. But before that, the musicians gave it their all one last time, and our friend Mario took one last dip in the crowd, this time in the middle of the pit. With the announcement of their headline show at the Supersonic in October, the band leave the stage and look forward to seeing you there!
It’s impossible to miss Blackout Problems! The Germans do everything they can to leave an indelible mark on the audience’s memories, and given the feedback we’ve heard from all around us, it’s worked! Since 2018, the band have conquered our hearts, and that’s not about to change after this anthological performance!
After many years without seeing Fever 333 live on stage, we were all the more excited to see them again tonight! Jason Aalon Butler and his band kick things off with the legendary « Burn It ». The pit suddenly wakes up and it’s off to a big half-hour of circle pits and pogos of all kinds. The power of the Californian band’s music is hard to match, and the messages they convey are as important as ever. Jason evokes the tragic fate of our Palestinian brothers and sisters, as well as the place of women and racialised people in the music scene, while paying tribute to « Our Queen » April Kae, the band’s new bassist. The audience, obviously very receptive, applauded these speeches as they should and gave the pit even more energy. On « Made In America », April and Jason launched into a sliding contest on a wet stage. Throughout the set Brandon Davis on guitar, April on bass and Thomas Pridgen on drums played their best, while Jason paid a visit to the balcony by climbing straight up from the stage. The pit had been waiting for this and moved towards the musician to catch him after a jump that will go down in the venue’s history. It was after a final burst of musical and political energy that the band left us, announcing their imminent return as headliners to a warm round of applause.
A Fever 333 concert is always an event, and seeing them again is a real pleasure. The new line-up is working like a charm, and we’re always delighted to be able to share the band’s strong values through songs that are always more catchy. A ball of musical and political energy we can’t get enough of!
The lights go down in the room and Rou Reynolds arrives alone on stage with a house on the edge of a cliff displayed on the giant screen at the back of the stage. As everyone knows, it’s ‘System…’ that kicks off the set. And it’s with this little a cappella gem that the concert kicks off! The musicians quickly took to the stage for the second part of the song « …Meltdown », which the whole room sang along to, as they launched into a raging pit. The four Englishmen are in top form, and even if the venue doesn’t allow them to use the full stage set, we know that the band from St Albans will be full of surprises. After this fanfare start, it’s time to go and live somewhere else, and why not under the sea with ‘Giant Pacific Octopus’? This track from the latest album is already familiar to everyone, and shows us that once again the band is totally in tune with the times, as the song evokes the themes of love and gender with brio.
The big surprise is the increasingly important role played by Chris Batten on vocals, added to his bass duties, and we’re clearly not going to sulk at the way his voice blends so perfectly with Rou‘s. An electrocardiogram on the screen announces the arrival of the hit ‘Anaesthetist’, which as usual gets its drum & bass outro played live. The band alternates between instruments, guitars, bass, keyboards, electronic pads, and everything in between to make their music even more lively. As for us, we’ll be singing our hearts out to « Torn Apart », a track that’s always been one of our favourites from the band. Between songs, Rou and Rob Rolfe try their hand at French, with uneven results but a real desire to speak to us in our own language. Speaking of Rolfy, Rob‘s nickname, he’s in top form this evening and gives us his best behind the drums.
Enter Shikari’s mix of sounds never ceases to delight, and « Jail Break » and « Sssnakepit » won’t change our minds. In fact, on these two tracks the singer once again shows us what an incredible dancer he is, with steps as unique as ever. The singer then took to the stage alone to perform semi-acoustic versions of songs normally made for the pit, such as ‘Juggernauts’! He was joined by the rest of the band on ‘Gap In The Fence’, before the excellent ‘The Sights’, which the whole room was still singing along to.
After a memorable switch between new and old songs, we’re back at the beginning for a trio of « Enter Shikari », « Mothership » and « Solidarity », which will give fans the chance to rediscover their favourite tracks, which haven’t aged a bit! During this energetic moment of nostalgia, it was Rory Clewlow‘s turn to move in all directions while continuing to deliver his best guitar parts! The audience is still not ready to stand still like a statue, and ‘satellites **’ doesn’t encourage us to do so any more! It’s worth noting that Rou‘s improbable arm movements are well known to everyone, making for another great moment of sharing. It’s on the excellent ‘The Dreamer’s Hotel’ that the band announce that the end is nigh! But the screen tells us that if we shout « Fuck Yes » we’ll go back for another ten minutes or so.
Of course, the band returns to the stage for the song that has come to symbolise a generation: « Sorry You’re Not A Winner », giving the audience one last chance to give it their all! The last little surprise is the reworked version by Pendulum, a breath of fresh air on a song we all know inside out. Then it’s on ‘A Kiss For The Whole World x’ that the band bids us a final farewell on a track as positive as ever!
Once again, Enter Shikari put on a perfect show, blending all the periods of the English band to the delight of the entire audience. The band have been with us for many years now, and always manage to impress us with great surprises and unreleased versions of legendary songs. Clearly an evening we won’t soon forget. We hope to see the English foursome back in Lille very soon!
