11 albums, ça se fête ! Mardi 27 février, Mohamed Dali Présente : nous ont donné rendez-vous à la malterie pour fêter la release party du 11ème album de Drive With A Dead Girl. Une belle soirée de cold noise rock tout droit venu de Lille, avec en ouverture Aidan Baker, venant lui de Berlin. Cette belle soirée froide a rassemblé pas mal de fan du groupe, et quelques petits curieux comme nous.

Seul sur scène, Aidan Baker va envelopper la salle de son rock ambient avec douceur. Un problème de micro en début de set ne le déstabilisera pas. Grace à ses pédales loop, l’artiste vient déposer un univers lent, mais puissant émotionnellement. Guitare accrochée au torse, archer dans les mains, les notes sont longues et viennent tapisser chaque recoin de notre âme pour un moment suspendu. Entre post-rock et shoegaze, Aidan se veut chef d’orchestre solo dans une ambiance intimiste. Le public commence à s’asseoir en bord de scène et nous voilà dans une ambiance de salle de répétition. Mais en fin de set le guitariste de Drive With A Dead Girl le rejoint sur scène pour un petit duo enthousiasmant.
Pas le temps de faire un pause, Drive With A Dead Girl vont profiter de l’atmosphère installé par Aidan pour commencer leur set directement. Le quatuor Lillois sont là pour nous présenter leur 11ème album, How It Begins, tout juste sorti le jour même. Sophie à la batterie est dans une forme olympique et vient nous fracasser ses fûts. Il ne faudra attendre que quelques secondes pour que Matthieu se mettent à bouger dans tous les sens. Alex au chant est plus discrète, mais sa voix vient nous réchauffer le coeur. C’est sur un duo avec Séverine de A C C I D E N T E que l’on va apprécier le plus tout le côté atmosphérique du groupe. La moitié de la salle est assise au sol à se laisser transporter pendant que l’autre écoute attentivement. Le set passe à une vitesse folle, et même si à titre personnel j’ai du mal à me plonger pleinement dans leur musique, les Lillois font ici des heureux à l’écoute des nombreux applaudissements.
Cette soirée Mohamed Dali était parfaite pour commencer la semaine en douceur. Drive With A Dead Girl continuent leur parcours musical tout doucement, sans aucune prétention et savent trouver dans le public Lillois des spectateurs fidèles.
Celebrating 10 albums! On Tuesday 27 February, Mohamed Dali Présente: met us at La Malterie to celebrate the release party for Drive With A Dead Girl’s 10th album. It was a great evening of cold noise rock straight from Lille, with Aidan Baker from Berlin opening. It was a chilled-out evening that brought together a lot of the band’s fans, as well as a few curious onlookers like us.

Alone on stage, Aidan Baker gently envelops the audience in his ambient rock. A microphone problem at the start of his set didn’t faze him. Thanks to his loop pedals, the artist lays down a slow but emotionally powerful universe. With his guitar clutched to his chest and his archer in his hands, the notes are long, lining every nook and cranny of our souls for a suspended moment. Somewhere between post-rock and shoegaze, Aidan takes on the role of solo conductor in an intimate setting. The audience starts to sit on the edge of the stage, and we’re in for a rehearsal room atmosphere. But at the end of the set, the guitarist from Drive With A Dead Girl joins him on stage for a rousing little duet.
No time for a break, Drive With A Dead Girl take advantage of the atmosphere created by Aidan to start their set straight away. The quartet from Lille are here to present their 10th album, How It Begins, released on the same day. Sophie on drums is in top form and comes to smash her drums. It’s only a matter of seconds before Matthieu starts moving in all directions. Alex on vocals is more discreet, but her voice warms our hearts. It’s on a duet with Séverine from A C C I D E N T E that we appreciate the band’s atmospheric side the most. Half the room is sitting on the floor, letting themselves be transported, while the other half listens attentively. The set went by at breakneck speed, and even though I personally find it hard to fully immerse myself in their music, the band from Lille were a hit with the applause.
This Mohamed Dali evening was the perfect way to start the week. Drive With A Dead Girl continue their unpretentious musical journey, finding a loyal following in Lille.
