Direction la pologne avec Shadohm, projet muscial de Paul Jaroszewicz (Pavulon), que l’on connait dans Batushka, entouré de nombreux autres membres de Vader, Decapitated, Hore, ou encore Antigama et Obscure Sphinx. Intitulé Through Darkness Towards Enlightenment, cet album offre une bonne dose de noirceur avec du black métal, une énergie à la métalcore, et une lourdeur très doom.

C’est sur un scream puissant que Shadohm nous embarquent dans leur univers sombre. Adrian « Klama » Meissner et Rafał « Tarlachan » Łyszczarz se partagent les parties chantées avec une alternance scream/clair en refrain, typique du metalcore. Et pourtant, c’est de la double pédale que l’on entend. Ce mélange de style marche à la perfection et nous voilà plonger dans ce monde froid et sombre. Pas question de retrouver la lumière avant la fin de cet EP. « blurred » nous fait voir flou dans cet enfer criant. Le calme est apporté avec « fair-weather friend », sa guitare acoustique et ses enregistrements vocaux si mélancolique. Ce répit n’est que très court, Klama revient avec ses growls pour nous en mettre plein la vue. On comprends pourquoi le groupe ne cesse de citer Lorna Shore dans ses influences.
Il est clair que Shadohm sont loin d’être amateur, et le jeu de batterie de Paweł « Pavulon » Jaroszewicz sur « Ripped Apart » sera une belle démonstration du talent des musiciens. C’est dans un esprit quasiment religieux, très spirituel que cet EP se clôture sur « Towards Enlightenment ». Le doom vient prendre sa place subtilement avant de se mélanger avec une grosse influence prog. Cela en fait le morceau le plus abouti et le plus impressionnant.
Shadohm ont réussi à se retrouver et composer un EP intéressant, qui n’attends qu’à être joué en live devant un public pouvant rassembler de nombreux spectateurs d’horizons différents. Est-ce là une preuve de réussite que de savoir tirer le meilleur de beaucoup de genre musicaux ?

Entitled Through Darkness Towards Enlightenment, this album offers a good dose of darkness with black metal, metalcore energy and doom heaviness.
Shadohm take us into their dark world with a powerful scream. Adrian « Klama » Meissner and Rafał « Tarlachan » Łyszczarz share the singing parts with an alternating scream/clear chorus, typical of metalcore. And yet, it’s double pedal you’re hearing. This mix of styles works perfectly, and we’re plunged into this cold, dark world. There’s no question of finding the light before the end of this EP. « Blurred » gives us a blurred view of this screaming hell. Calm is restored with « fair-weather friend », its acoustic guitar and melancholy vocal recordings. This respite is short-lived, however, as Klama returns with his growls to blow us away. It’s easy to see why the band keep citing Lorna Shore as one of their influences.
It’s clear that Shadohm are far from amateurs, and Paweł ‘Pavulon’ Jaroszewicz‘s drumming on ‘Ripped Apart’ is a fine demonstration of the musicians’ talent. It’s in an almost religious, very spiritual spirit that this EP closes with ‘Towards Enlightenment’. The doom subtly takes its place before blending with a heavy prog influence. This makes it the most accomplished and impressive track.
Shadohm have managed to get together and compose an interesting EP, which is just waiting to be played live in front of an audience of people from different backgrounds. Is knowing how to get the best out of many musical genres proof of success?
