Petit passage express à Paris pour se rendre à un concert qui s’annonçait clairement comme immanquable! En effet, la Machine Du Moulin Rouge accueillait en ce mercredi soir quatre groupes qui tournent chacun depuis de nombreuses années ou de nombreux mois dans nos playlists. Conçue par Garmonbozia Inc. cette soirée nous propose donc de retrouver Carnifex, Revocation, Aborted et VEXED pour un moment où différents genre de métal vont cohabiter pour montrer cette belle diversité qui habite les musiques extrêmes. Il fallait cependant être là tôt pour ne rien manquer de ce magnifique line-up!

La soirée commence avec les anglais de VEXED qui jouent ce soir leur premier concert parisien! Le combo anglais mené par Megan Targett débarque donc sur la scène de La Machine pour nous présenter son deuxième album Negative Energy sorti l’an dernier. Le public est déjà bien présent même s’il est encore tôt et que beaucoup n’ont pas pu encore rejoindre la salle. Le groupe ne se démonte pas et nous livre ce mélange de sons électroniques avec un métal moderne d’une énergie imparable. Sur scène la chanteuse n’hésite pas à haranguer la foule tout en nous remerciant entre les titres d’être venus tôt pour les découvrir. Les morceaux comme « Anti Fetish » ou « PTSD » passent sans effort l’épreuve du live et on retrouve rapidement tout ce qui nous avait plus à l’écoute de l’album. Le public parisien commence à remuer et on voit les premiers pits se former timidement en milieu de set. Mais l’accueil est très bon et on sent que le set trouve largement son audience ce soir! C’est après une demi-heure passée à la vitesse de l’éclair que Megan et ses acolytes quittent la scène avec un dernier titre qui nous fera bien headbanger. Le groupe quitte la scène ravi de l’accueil qui lui a été réservé et il ne serait pas étonnant de les retrouver très rapidement en tête d’affiche quelque part dans la capitale!
On poursuit avec les belges d’Aborted qu’on attendait de revoir depuis leur set d’anthologie au Motocultor 2019! Pour commencer au mieux, c’est un pantin sur son tricycle tout droit venu de l’univers de Saw nous plonge dans le monde terrifiant des films d’horreur, puis le groupe s’installe au milieu du décorum aux couleurs de l’album Vault Of Horrors tout juste sorti et c’est parti pour la déferlante de blasts beats! Sven De Caluwé est en très grande forme au chant et nous livre son tout meilleur dès « Retrogore » qui sera accueillis directement par les premiers circle pits de la soirée. La machine Aborted est lancée et rapidement le chanteur demandera au public de venir se lancer depuis la scène, malheureusement certains habitent un peu trop longuement la scène avant de se jeter dans le public. L’énergie horrifique de la musique des belges frappe fort et on se retrouve très vite à se détruire les cervicales au rythmes des lignes de batterie absolument dantesques. Le groupe mettra évidemment en avant son dernier album, et on a grand plaisir à redécouvrir ses morceaux si réussis interprétés uniquement par Sven. Entre les titres les blagues fusent, puis c’est un ballon qui sera lancé par le groupe dans la fosse pour plus de déconnade! Les morceaux plus anciens ne sont évidemment pas oubliés au grand bonheur des fans présents et sur « Threading On Vermillion Deception » on verra clairement le pit s’intensifier. Malheureusement la fin est déjà proche et c’est sur l’excellent « The Saw And The Carnage Done » que les belges quittent la scène très largement applaudi par un public une fois encore conquis par le brutal death dévastateur made in Belgium! On espère là aussi retrouver le groupe très vite dans d’autres villes françaises pour une tournée headline! En tout cas, une chose est certaine, on ne manquera leur prochain passage pour rien au monde!
Partons maintenant aux Etats Unis avec l’arrivée de Revocation sur la scène de la Machine. Leur show à The Black Lab l’an dernier nous avait totalement conquis, on est donc ravi de retrouver le trio sur scène pour cette nouvelle tournée. Dès « Diabolical Majesty » on retrouve tout ce qu’on aime dans le tech death avec des riffs ciselés et des rythmiques de batterie à nous faire perdre la tête. Le public semble là aussi prêt à tout donner et se lance dans un pit qui ne faiblira pas de tout le concert! On se prend en pleine face les morceaux tirés de Netherheaven en se disant qu’ils ont toujours cette force dantesque qui transparait à chaque instant. Dave Davidson en plus d’être un guitariste de grand talent nous enchante avec un chant hurlé surpuissant qui donnent au composition une profondeur supplémentaire. Le trio n’hésite pas à revenir en arrière dans sa discographie avec des morceaux comme « The Outer Ones » ou « Madness Opus » qui seront interprétés accueillis avec un plaisir non dissimulé par les fans du groupe présents ce soir. Pas le temps de se poser puisque les rhythmiques de « Teratogenesis » viennent, une fois encore, mettre nous nos cervicales à rude épreuve. On sent les trois musiciens ravis par l’accueil et le public le leur rend toujours plus en continuant les mosh, les slams et autres joyeusetés. En fin de set un diable arrivera sur scène pour nous proposer une belle partie de air guitar sur sa fourche, comme si son combat avec Dave avait une chance d’être remporté! On arrive déjà en fin de set mais il nous reste quelques minutes de bonheur tech death avec l’excellent « Of Unworldly Origin » qui vient clôturer en beauté une prestation qui n’a fait que confirmer notre amour pour la musique des trois américains. On les laisse repartir en coulisses sous des applaudissements fournis qui ne font que leur rappeler l’amour que la France leur porte. On a hâte de les retrouver au plus vite sur nos scènes!
Ca y’est il est temps d’accueillir le rouleau compresseur Carnifex sur scène! Leur back drop géant est posé et Scott Lewis et sa bande débarquent au son de « Dark Days » qui met d’entrée tout le monde d’accord! Le deathcore du groupe américain n’a plus rien à prouver depuis de longues années mais on reste à chaque fois surpris par cette capacité à tout retourner en quelques secondes. L’énergie du pit est toujours plus forte et on voit les têtes bouger de plus en plus fort. Aux guitares Cory Arford et Neal Tiemann nous livrent des riffs dévastateurs qui seront accompagnés de rythmiques à vous briser les os servies par Fred Calderon (basse) et Shawn Cameron (batterie) tout deux en très grande forme! Les morceaux de Necromanteum sont évidemment de la partie, mais le groupe n’oublie pas ses classiques comme « Pray For Peace » ou « Hell Chose Me ». On se prend la déferlante deathcore en pleine face et on en demandait clairement pas tant. L’énergie se ressent comme un véritable parpaing en pleine face et chaque titre joué met nos corps toujours plus à rude épreuve. Il faut dire qu’on est déjà au quatrième et dernier set de la soirée! Mais le public ne compte pas se reposer et donne tout sur « Infinite Night Terror » avant que la formation américaine nous balance le génial « Dark Heart Ceremony ». La sueur est maîtresses dans le pit et le public est prêt à donner toute l’énergie qui lui reste pour faire de cette fin de soirée un véritable instant gravé dans la mémoire des musiciens. Ces derniers nous livrent d’ailleurs le bien nommé « Hatred & Slaughter » avant de terminer avec « Slit Wrist Saviour » qui sera accueilli avec les derniers gros pits de cette belle soirée. Le groupe quitte la scène visiblement ravis en nous ayant laissé totalement sur les rotules, mais ravis d’avoir repris une belle dose de deathcore comme les américains savent si bien les administrer!
On quitte la Machine du Moulin Rouge ravis par cette soirée qui a montré la diversité des musiques extrêmes avec des groupes qu’on adore voir et revoir! Chacun d’entre eux a été maître de son art et nous a livré un set qu’on oubliera pas de si tôt. Ce plateau s’annonçait immanquable, il l’a été de bout en bout! On se donne rendez-vous vite pour de nouvelles excursions parisiennes qu’on sait déjà tout aussi prenantes.

A quick trip to Paris for a concert that was clearly a must-see! On this Wednesday evening, the Machine Du Moulin Rouge played host to four bands who have been on our playlists for years or months. Conceived by Garmonbozia Inc., the evening brought together Carnifex, Revocation, Aborted and VEXED for an evening where different genres of metal came together to showcase the diversity that lies at the heart of extreme music. But you’ll need to be there early to make sure you don’t miss out on this magnificent line-up!

The evening kicks off with England’s VEXED, playing their first Paris gig tonight! The English combo, led by Megan Targett, take to the stage at La Machine to present their second album, Negative Energy, released last year. The audience is already in full force, even though it’s still early and many of them haven’t been able to get to the venue yet. The band don’t let up, delivering a blend of electronic sounds and modern metal with unstoppable energy. On stage, the singer doesn’t hesitate to harangue the crowd, thanking us between songs for coming early to discover them. Tracks like ‘Anti Fetish’ and ‘PTSD’ effortlessly stand up to the test of live performance, and we quickly rediscover everything we loved about the album. The Parisian crowd began to stir and the first pits formed timidly in the middle of the set. But the reception was very good, and it was clear that the set had found its audience tonight! After half an hour gone by at lightning speed, Megan and her bandmates left the stage with a final track that had us all headbanging. The band left the stage delighted with the reception they’d received, and it would be no surprise to see them headlining somewhere in the capital very soon!
We continue with the Belgians from Aborted, who we’ve been waiting to see since their anthology set at Motocultor 2019! To get things off to the best possible start, a puppet on a tricycle straight out of the world of Saw plunges us into the terrifying world of horror films, before the band take their place in the middle of the stage set in the colours of their just-released album, Vault Of Horrors, and off we go with a barrage of blasts and beats! Sven De Caluwé is in top form on vocals and delivers his very best from « Retrogore », which is greeted by the first circle pits of the evening. The Aborted machine is up and running, and the singer quickly asks the audience to jump in from the stage – unfortunately, some of them take up the stage a little too long before throwing themselves into the audience. The horrific energy of the Belgians’ music hits hard and you soon find yourself shattering your neck to the rhythm of the absolutely Dantesque drum lines. The band will obviously be showcasing their latest album, and it’s a great pleasure to rediscover these highly successful tracks performed solely by Sven. Between songs, the jokes fly, then it’s a balloon that will be thrown by the band in the pit for more fun! The older songs were obviously not forgotten, much to the delight of the fans present, and on « Threading On Vermillion Deception » the pit clearly got louder. Unfortunately, the end is already nigh and it’s on the excellent « The Saw And The Carnage Done » that the Belgians leave the stage, widely applauded by an audience once again won over by the devastating brutal death made in Belgium! We hope to see the band in other French towns very soon for a headline tour! One thing’s for sure, though: we wouldn’t miss their next appearance for the world!
We’re off to the States now, with Revocation taking to the stage at La Machine. Their show at The Black Lab last year totally won us over, so we’re delighted to have the trio back on stage for this new tour. From ‘Diabolical Majesty’ onwards, we find everything we love about tech death, with chiselled riffs and drum rhythms to make us lose our heads. The crowd, too, seemed ready to give it their all and launched into a pit that didn’t let up for the whole concert! The band’s songs from Netherheaven hit you right in the face, and you can’t help but think that they still have that Dantesque strength that shines through at every moment. As well as being a hugely talented guitarist, Dave Davidson enchants us with his super-powered screamed vocals, which give the compositions added depth. The trio don’t hesitate to go back in time in their discography with tracks like « The Outer Ones » or « Madness Opus », which will be interpreted with undisguised pleasure by the band’s fans present this evening. There’s no time to sit back as the rhythmics of « Teratogenesis » once again put our necks to the test. The three musicians were delighted with the welcome they received, and the crowd kept up the mosh, slams and other merriment. At the end of the set, a devil arrived on stage to offer us a fine bit of air guitar on his pitchfork, as if his battle with Dave had any chance of being won! We’re already coming to the end of the set, but we’ve still got a few minutes of tech death bliss left with the excellent « Of Unworldly Origin », which brings a fitting end to a performance that has only confirmed our love for the music of these three Americans. We let them go backstage to rapturous applause, a reminder of the love France has for them. We can’t wait to see them back on stage!
It’s time to welcome the Carnifex steamroller to the stage! Their giant back drop has been laid down and Scott Lewis and his band arrive to the sound of « Dark Days », which immediately puts everyone on the same wavelength! The American band’s deathcore has been unproven for many years now, but their ability to turn everything on its head in a matter of seconds never ceases to amaze. The energy in the pit just keeps getting stronger and stronger, and you can see the heads bobbing up and down. On guitars, Cory Arford and Neal Tiemann deliver devastating riffs, accompanied by bone-shattering rhythms from Fred Calderon (bass) and Shawn Cameron (drums), both on top form! Necromanteum songs are obviously on the bill, but the band haven’t forgotten their classics like ‘Pray For Peace’ and ‘Hell Chose Me’. The deathcore surge hits you in the face, and you really couldn’t ask for more. The energy feels like a cinder block to the face, and every track they play puts our bodies to the test more and more. It’s already the fourth and final set of the evening! But the crowd had no intention of resting and gave it their all on « Infinite Night Terror » before the American band threw down the brilliant « Dark Heart Ceremony ». The sweat is palpable in the pit and the crowd are ready to give it all they’ve got to make the end of the evening a moment engraved in the musicians’ memories. The band went on to deliver the aptly-named « Hatred & Slaughter » before finishing with « Slit Wrist Saviour », which was greeted with the last big pits of the evening. The band left the stage visibly delighted, having left us totally on edge, but delighted to have had another good dose of the kind of deathcore the Americans know so well how to deliver!
We left the Machine du Moulin Rouge delighted by this evening, which showed the diversity of extreme music with bands we love to see again and again! Each of them were masters of their craft and delivered a set we won’t soon forget. This was going to be an unmissable set, and it was, from start to finish! We’ll be seeing you soon for new Parisian excursions that we already know will be just as exciting.
