Le groupe belge Billions Of Comrades revient avec un nouvel album, huit ans après Rondate. TROTOP, qui sortira via Rockerill Records le 12 avril prochain et dont quelques extraits sont déjà parus, nous offre sept titres taillés pour la scène, mais pas seulement!

La dance punk du quartet nous embarque instantanément avec “TETONS”, à la fois rythmée et destructurée. Billions Of Comrades nous invite d’entrée de jeu dans sa transe, alliant dance, et voix très post punk avec un chant répétitif et entêtant qui nous accroche d’emblée. Evidemment, au vu des structures des morceaux, on ne peut qu’avoir une pensée pour leurs compatriotes de La Jungle. Avec “OUR HOURS”, on ralentit un peu le rythme, mais pas l’allégresse que nous procure chacun des titres de cet opus. On sent chez eux des influences multiples, piochant également dans le rap et le hip hop. “UNITÀ” présente un mix très important, la rendant extrêmement dansante, et donnant envie de laisser s’exprimer les corps dans une forme d’archaïsme particulièrement libérateur. Chaque titre apporte une émotion, un mouvement différent, tout en gardant une cohérence tout au long de cet album. Ainsi avec “BOOMGANG” on entre dans quelque chose de beaucoup plus sensuel notamment dans le début du titre, avec des passages plus mélodiques et une voix amenée au premier plan. “1480” est quant à elle entièrement instrumentale, rentrant dans une musicalité presque expérimentale. Les thèmes abordés dans les titres ne sont pas simplement festifs. Le groupe délivre notamment des messages de soutien face aux violences policières, d’amour face à l’homophobie… En bref, face aux injustices de ce monde et aux luttes importantes qui doivent encore être menées, le groupe apporte sa pierre à l’édifice, tout en amenant un optimisme déterminé et qui fait du bien. On termine par “CABRA” qui ferait onduler le corps de n’importe qui tant les rythmes sont prenants, s’entremêlant avec les instruments et la voix dans un ensemble joyeux. 

TROTOP est un album qui tient toutes ses promesses. Avec une pochette à la fois très psychédélique, colorée et feel good, les sons nous amènent dans un univers acidulé et hypnotique. On a hâte de voir ce que ces titres donneront sur scène, avec l’énergie des quatres musiciens. Et cela tombe bien, on retrouve Billions Of Comrades le 13 avril au Festival Arc-En-Musique, et il se peut qu’on vous raconte tout cela très bientôt…

Belgian band Billions Of Comrades are back with a new album, eight years after Rondate. TROTOP, which will be released via Rockerill Records on April 12th, and from which a few extracts have already been released, offers us seven tracks designed for the stage, but not only!

The quartet’s dance punk takes us on an instant ride with ‘TETONS’, which is both rhythmic and unstructured. From the outset, Billions Of Comrades invite us into their trance, combining dance and post-punk vocals with a repetitive, heady chant that hooks us right from the start. Obviously, given the structure of the tracks, we can’t help but think of their compatriots La Jungle. With ‘OUR HOURS’, the pace slows down a little, but not as much as each of the tracks on this opus. You can hear the band’s many influences, including rap and hip hop. « UNITÀ » has a great mix, making it extremely danceable, and giving you the urge to let your body express itself in a particularly liberating form of archaism. Each track brings a different emotion, a different movement, while maintaining a coherence throughout the album. BOOMGANG » is a much more sensual track, particularly at the beginning, with more melodic passages and vocals brought to the fore. « 1480 » is entirely instrumental, with an almost experimental musicality. The themes of the songs are not simply festive. The group delivers messages of support in the face of police violence, of love in the face of homophobia… In short, in the face of the injustices of this world and the important struggles that still need to be waged, the group makes its contribution, while bringing a determined optimism that feels good. We finish with « CABRA », which would make anyone’s body undulate with its catchy rhythms, intertwining with the instruments and vocals in a joyous whole.

TROTOP is an album that lives up to all its promises. With a psychedelic, colourful and feel-good cover, the sounds take us into a tangy, hypnotic world. We can’t wait to see what these tracks will sound like live, with the energy of the four musicians. And just in time, Billions Of Comrades will be playing at the Festival Arc-En-Musique on 13 April, and we may be telling you all about it very soon…
