Sept titres, ça semble court, et ça l’est. Pourtant Wallack nous transporte très facilement dans son univers se composant autour des styles rock, grunge, et indus. On ressent toutes ces influences dès le départ avec l’introduction “The World You Fear”, un titre qui permet d’entrer dans ce que le groupe a construit avec une montée en puissance dans le morceau. Le groupe de Poitiers avait déjà donné un avant-goût de l’EP avec deux singles “More A Shade Than A Man” et “Cold Blood” qui suivent l’introduction. Les deux titres présentent un rythme plus énergique que le premier et représentent tout aussi bien les influences du groupe. Dans “Coldblood” on voit apparaître une ouverture plus synthwave avant de tourner plus vers du rock, voire même metal, indus qui nous rappelle Nine Inch Nails. Une fois que Cyprien Tillet ajoute sa voix au morceau, on pense aussi un peu à Depeche Mode! Une fois que “Lux Altera” arrive, on retourne vers un morceau plus rock qui est aussi plus lent et plus calme mais qui nous entraîne toujours dans la suite de cet EP. “To The End” est une interlude qui débute avec des sons très faibles et lents, on pourrait très bien imaginer ce titre accompagner un film de suspense et science-fiction presque cyberpunk. Une très belle ouverture pour l’enchaînement avec le titre éponyme qui nous secoue d’un coup en nous replongeant dans l’univers rock indus. Puis “The Score” vient clore LOVELESS avec un rythme un peu plus calme, accompagné cette fois de piano. La voix semble avoir plus d’ampleur que dans les titres précédents même lorsque le morceau monte en puissance. Finalement, la fermeture se fera sur quelques notes de piano. 

Wallack nous offre avec LOVELESS un EP qui est très équilibré et qui promet aussi une belle énergie en live. La voix de Cyprien se fond parfaitement dans l’univers créé à l’aide du synthé, de la guitare, de la basse et de la batterie, même si parfois on aimerait qu’elle soit un peu plus mise en avant. Au travers de LOVELESS, le groupe nous fait part de son univers assez sombre mais nous y entraîne sans problème!

Seven tracks seems short, and it is. However, Wallack easily transports us into their universe, composed of rock, grunge, and industrial styles. We feel all these influences right from the start with the introduction « The World You Fear, » a track that allows us to enter what the band has built with a crescendo in the song. The band from Poitiers had already given a preview of the EP with two singles, « More A Shade Than A Man » and « Cold Blood, » which follow the introduction. These two tracks present a more energetic rhythm than the first and equally represent the band’s influences. In « Cold Blood, » we see a more synthwave opening before shifting towards industrial rock, sometimes even feeling more like metal, it can make us think of Nine Inch Nails. Once Cyprien Tillet adds his voice to the track, we also think a bit of Depeche Mode! When « Lux Altera » arrives, we move towards a more rock track that is slower and calmer but still draws us into the rest of this EP. « To The End » is an interlude that starts with very soft and slow sounds; one could easily imagine this track accompanying a suspenseful science fiction, or even cyberpunk, film. A very nice opening for the transition to the title track, which suddenly shakes us up, plunging us back into the industrial rock universe. Then « The Score » closes LOVELESS with a somewhat calmer rhythm, this time accompanied by piano. The voice seems to have a stronger presence than in the previous tracks, even when the song builds in intensity. Finally, the closure will end on a few piano notes.

With LOVELESS, Wallack offers us an EP that is very balanced and also promises great energy live. Cyprien‘s voice blends perfectly into the universe created with the help of synth, guitar, bass, and drums, even though sometimes we wish it were a bit more prominent. Through LOVELESS, the band shares their rather dark universe with us, but they draw us in effortlessly!
