Retour à Saint-Ouen et à la Communale après une bonne nuit de sommeil pour cette deuxième journée du Post In Paris 2024! Arrivés un peu en avance nous avons le temps de profiter des stands ouverts en ce dimanche après midi pour nous préparer au mieux pour cette nouvelle série de concerts. Au programme de cette nouvelle journée: Baleine, Darius, Karaba F.C., Apart, 20 Seconds Falling Man, A Burial At Sea et Lite.

Baleine (Place Des Fêtes)

Pour commencer de la meilleure des manières, nous nous rendons à la place des fêtes découvrir Baleine, qui nous ont été largement conseillés par nos amis de The Baptized, qui ont joué avec eux à Paris il y a quelques jours. On comprend en quelques secondes pourquoi le trio leur a autant tapé dans l’oeil! Leur post rock tinté de sonorités bossa nous fait remuer en quelques secondes. Les rythmes chaloupés nous emportent et on se prend très rapidement au jeu. Les trois musiciens sont en grande forment et nous montrent qu’ils en ont déjà bien sous le pied. On sourit avec eux, on danse avec eux et on profite de ce post rock si entrainant. Le public est largement massé devant la scène et à la vue des visages, on voit que la sauce prend totalement. On adore découvrir de nouvelles formations et on a clairement mis notre première claque de la journée avec ce premier set. Les quarante minutes passent beaucoup trop vite à notre goût mais on sait que le trio a clairement encore de belles heures devant lui vu l’accueil qui lui a été réservé. On espère donc revoir Baleine très vite, et on l’espère en région lilloise en compagnie du groupe nommé plus haut pour une soirée de danse post rock endiablée.

Darius (Extra Ball)

Direction la grande salle pour le concert tant attendu par beaucoup des suisses de Darius. Leur nouvel album Murmuration dans la poche c’est parti pour une belle dose de post hardcore noisy à souhait. Le set commence très fort avec le récent « Ail Huile », on notera d’ailleurs que le groupe n’a rien perdu de son humour avec des titres de morceaux toujours improbables. Les musiciens nous livrent une prestation dantesque qui nous fait nous demander pourquoi on ne les a pas vu plus tôt. Chaque titre donne l’occasion au public de remuer toujours un peu plus et « Norbert » sera clairement le point d’orgue de ce set avec ses envolées de guitares et ses rythmiques à réveiller même les plus endormis. Le groupe enchaîne et ne laisse personne indifférent dans la salle, il faut dire que « Waste » ou « Dust Ball » sont de véritables tubes en puissance. C’est avec l’excellent « Apache Assault » qui le groupe termine un set qui restera clairement dans les annales du festival tant il fut mémorable. On ressort de l’Extra Bal en se disant qu’on ne manquera plus les prochains passages de Darius, et on vous promet qu’on reparlera d’eux très très rapidement.

Direction le club pour une nouvelle découverte avec Karaba F.C. Les parisiens commencent très fort avec S.O.S et là c’est la claque instantanée! Nous revoilà plongés dans les meilleures heures du post hardcore avec une touche d’indie qui vient nous en mettre plein la vue. C’est simple certains titres nous rappellent l’excellence des débuts de My Chemical Romance, et en particulier des titres comme « Demolition Lovers », autant dire que c’est un véritable compliment et que l’on sait déjà que l’on a devant nous un futur groupe majeur de la scène française. La puissance de titres comme « After Party » ou « Neighbours » nous laisse pantois d’admiration et confirme notre coup de cœur pour la formation parisienne. Les musiciens donnent quasi tous de la voix, ce qui renforce cette puissance qu’à le groupe sur chacun des titres. Notre envie de découvrir le groupe jouant en même temps qu’eux nous rattrape et nous manqueront les derniers titres du set. Mais soyons clair, Karaba F.C. est clairement le groupe qui nous a le plus impressionné sur cette deuxième journée et on sait qu’on ne manquera pas une occasion de les revoir sur scène.

 

20 Seconds Falling Man (Extra Ball)

La sortie de l’album Resilience nous ayant clairement enthousiasmé il y a quelques semaines, nous avions hâte de pouvoir enfin voir 20 Seconds Falling Man sur scène. C’est aujourd’hui chose faite et le groupe commence sur les chapeaux de roue avec « In The Gloom ». Arnaud est en très grande forme et vit chaque titre avec toute son âme. Ses cris puissants nous touchent encore plus que sur album et on est déjà conquis par la performance du groupe nantais. Grégory et Pierre-Denis livrent des parties de guitares magistrales tout du long qui nous transportent loin et sont, là aussi, un vecteur d’émotions fortes. Le morceau titre du dernier album est clairement magistral et laisse Maxime à la basse et Alain à la batterie une occasion de plus de nous montrer que leur duo sait faire de véritables merveilles côté rythmiques. Le public applaudit largement le groupe, qui décide de nous surprendre une reprise très réussie de « A Forest » de The Cure. Le set se termine sur l’enchaînement surpuissant de « Shadow Of The Past », qui confirme son statut de titre phare du dernier album, et « Crossroads » qui vient donner aux musiciens une dernière occasion de nous en mettre plein la vue. C’est conforté dans notre amour pour la formation nantaise que nous quittons l’Extra Bal pour une petite pause frugale.

Retour dans la salle pour y retrouver les irlandais de A Burial At Sea, que nous avons vu il y a tout juste quelques jours dans la petite salle Chez Oscaar à Marly. Ce soir, la scène est beaucoup plus grande ce qui laissera plus de place aux musiciens pour se mouvoir et nous proposer leur post rock majestueux. Quelques mois après la sortie de Close To Home, on a les morceaux bien en tête et cette ouverture sur « T.G.G.O.A » nous mettra directement dans l’ambiance. Le groupe enchaine entre nouveautés et titres plus ancien au grand plaisir des fans. Le groupe nous remercie d’ailleurs d’être présents si nombreux pour ce qui est clairement leur plus gros set en région parisienne. Les morceaux sont d’une pureté folle et font virevolter nos émotions à chaque instant. La présence de la trompette est un magnifique ajout à un post rock déjà si puissant et évocateur. On ne voit pas le temps passer tant chaque morceau est un véritable voyage musical. « masterfred » ou « Nice From Afar, Far From Nice » terminent de mettre tout le monde d’accord et cimentent les irlandais comme un des noms majeurs de la scène post rock actuelle. Le show se termine en apothéose avec « Tropic Of Cancer » où les musiciens mêlent leur voix à capella pour un final qui nous tirera quelques larmes. Les musiciens quittent la scène très largement applaudis et on imagine aisément que leur prochaine tournée européenne trouvera un large public français près à venir les soutenir tant le set de ce soir fut mémorable!

Il est déjà l’heure de clôturer cette nouvelle édition du Post In Paris, et c’est les japonais de Lite qui s’y collent! Leur musique nous est totalement inconnue, mais quelques secondes après le début de leur set on sait là aussi qu’on a à faire à un véritable coup de cœur. Jun Izawa nous subjugue totalement avec son jeu de bass ultra jazzy qui colle parfaitement au math rock proposé par la formation. C’est technique et dansant à la fois et ça en laisse plus d’un pantois, c’est ce qu’on retient au bout de seulement deux ou trois titres. Akinori Yamamoto est un batteur de grand talent et son jeu nous incite clairement à remuer. Nobuyuki Takeda et Kozo Kusumoto livrent des parties de guitares imparables qui sonnent comme de véritables pépites du genre dès les premières secondes. Kozo officie également aux claviers pour des sonorités plus électroniques très réussies qui complètent un son parfaitement maîtrisé. Impossible de ne pas être conquis par cette formation étonnante dont on ira clairement étudier la discographie de près. On quitte la salle surpris et bouche bée devant tant de talent et on se dit que Lite était le choix parfait pour terminer le festival de la plus belle des manières.

C’est ravis par une affiche des plus éclectiques que nous quittons le Post In Paris 2024. Une fois encore l’équipe s’est démenée, dans un nouveau lieu très bien choisi, pour nous proposer une sélection de groupes qui montrent que la scène post sous toutes ses formes regorge de pépites à découvrir. On ne peut que vous conseiller de suivre les futures éditions du festival et les autres programmation post de salles comme le Supersonic à Paris qui mettent en avant de nombreux groupes qui méritent d’être connus bien plus largement. On salue cette édition une fois encore parfaite en tout point qui nous laisse avec l’envie forte de revenir une fois de plus l’an prochain.

Back to Saint-Ouen and La Communale after a good night’s sleep for the second day of Post In Paris 2024! Arriving a little early, we had time to make the most of the stalls that were open on this Sunday afternoon to prepare ourselves as well as possible for this new series of concerts. On the programme for this new day: Baleine, Darius, Karaba F.C., Apart, 20 Seconds Falling Man, A Burial At Sea and Lite.

Baleine (Place Des Fêtes)

To kick things off in the best possible way, we’re off to the Place des Fêtes to discover Baleine, who came highly recommended by our friends from The Baptized, who played with them in Paris a few days ago. It’s easy to see why the trio caught their eye so quickly! Their bossa-tinged post-rock gets you moving in seconds. The swaying rhythms take us away and we quickly get into the swing of things. The three musicians are in top form, showing us that they’ve already got it down pat. We smile with them, we dance with them and we enjoy this post rock so catchy. The audience is massed in front of the stage and from the looks on their faces, it’s clear that they’ve really got the hang of it. We love discovering new bands and this first set was clearly our first slap in the face of the day. The forty minutes went by far too quickly for our liking, but we knew that the trio clearly still had some great hours ahead of them, given the reception they received. So we’re hoping to see Baleine again very soon, and hopefully in the Lille region with the aforementioned band for an evening of frenzied post-rock dancing.

Darius (Extra Ball)

It’s off to the main venue for the long-awaited concert by Switzerland’s Darius. With their new album Murmuration in the bag, it’s off to a great dose of noisy post-hardcore. The set got off to a great start with the recently-released ‘Ail Huile’, and it’s worth noting that the band have lost none of their sense of humour with their ever-improbable song titles. The musicians deliver a Dantesque performance that makes us wonder why we hadn’t seen them before. Each track gave the audience an opportunity to shake things up a bit more, and ‘Norbert’ was clearly the highlight of the set, with its soaring guitars and rhythms that would wake up even the sleepiest of listeners. The band went on from strength to strength, leaving no one in the room indifferent, and it has to be said that ‘Waste’ and ‘Dust Ball’ are real potential hits. The band ended their memorable set with the excellent ‘Apache Assault’, which will clearly go down in the annals of the festival. As we leave the Extra Bal, we can’t wait to see Darius again, and we promise we’ll be talking about them again very soon.

Karaba F.C. (Club)

Head to the club for a new discovery with Karaba F.C. The Parisians get things off to a flying start with « S.O.S », and there’s an instant slap in the face! We’re plunged back into the heyday of post-hardcore, with a touch of indie thrown in for good measure. It’s easy to see how some of the tracks here remind us of the excellence of My Chemical Romance’s early days, particularly tracks like ‘Demolition Lovers’, which is a real compliment and means we already know we’re looking at a future major French band. The power of tracks like ‘After Party’ and ‘Neighbours’ leaves us breathless with admiration and confirms our love affair with this Parisian band. Almost all the musicians give their all, reinforcing the band’s power on every track. Our desire to discover the band playing at the same time as them catches up with us and we will miss the last tracks of the set. But let’s be clear, Karaba F.C. are clearly the band who impressed us the most on this second day, and we know we won’t miss a chance to see them live again.

Apart (Place Des Fêtes)

A few days after previewing the clip for ‘Frayed’ on Sounding Shivers, it’s finally time to see Apart live on stage! Vianney Dupont instantly draws us into the band’s emo rock universe. Touching lyrics and gripping tracks, with the first heads bobbing in the village square. With their new album Through The Cracks in hand, the trio (in quartet this evening) seem to revel in each of their tracks. Their rock is unashamedly raw, full of emotion and sound. All in all, a very good time with the band from Le Havre!

20 Seconds Falling Man (Extra Ball)

Having been so excited by the release of their Resilience album a few weeks ago, we couldn’t wait to finally see 20 Seconds Falling Man live on stage. And so it is, with the band kicking off their set with ‘In The Gloom’. Arnaud is in top form and lives each track with all his soul. His powerful cries touch us even more than on the album, and we’re already won over by the performance of this band from Nantes. Grégory and Pierre-Denis deliver masterful guitar parts throughout, transporting us far and wide and, here too, conveying strong emotions. The title track from their latest album is clearly a masterpiece, giving Maxime on bass and Alain on drums another opportunity to show us that their duo can work real wonders on the rhythm front. The audience gave the band a big round of applause, and they decided to surprise us with a very successful cover of The Cure’s ‘A Forest’. The set ends with a powerful sequence of ‘Shadow Of The Past’, which confirms its status as one of the highlights of the latest album, and ‘Crossroads’, which gives the musicians one last chance to show us off. Our love for the band from Nantes is confirmed as we leave the Extra Bal for a little frugal break.

A Burial At Sea (Extra Ball)

Back to the venue to meet Irish band A Burial At Sea, who we saw just a few days ago in the small venue Chez Oscaar in Marly. Tonight, the stage is much bigger, giving the musicians more room to move around and offer us their majestic post rock. A few months after the release of Close To Home, we’ve got the songs well and truly in our heads, and opening with ‘T.G.G.O.A’ will get us straight into the mood. The band follow up with a mix of new and old tracks, much to the delight of their fans. The band thank us for coming in such numbers for what is clearly their biggest set in the Paris region. The songs are as pure as they come, making our emotions twirl at every moment. The presence of the trumpet is a magnificent addition to an already powerful and evocative post-rock sound. Each track is like a musical journey, and you can’t see the time go by. ‘Masterfred’ and ‘Nice From Afar, Far From Nice’ put everyone in agreement, cementing the Irish band as one of the major names on the current post rock scene. The show comes to an apotheosis with ‘Tropic Of Cancer’, where the musicians combine their voices a cappella for a finale that brings a few tears to the eyes. The musicians left the stage to rapturous applause, and it’s easy to imagine that their forthcoming European tour will find a large French audience ready to come and support them, such was the memorable nature of tonight’s set!

Lite (Extra Ball)

It’s already time to bring this latest edition of Post In Paris to a close, and it’s the Japanese band Lite! Their music is totally unknown to us, but within seconds of the start of their set we knew we were in for a real treat. Jun Izawa totally captivates us with his ultra-jazzy bass playing, which fits in perfectly with the band’s math rock sound. It’s technical and danceable at the same time, and it leaves you breathless – that’s what you remember after just two or three tracks. Akinori Yamamoto is a hugely talented drummer and his playing is a clear incentive to get moving. Nobuyuki Takeda and Kozo Kusumoto deliver unstoppable guitar parts that sound like nuggets of the genre from the very first seconds. Kozo also officiates on keyboards, adding some very successful electronic sounds to round off a perfectly mastered sound. It’s impossible not to be won over by this astonishing band, whose discography we’ll definitely be studying closely. We left the venue surprised and speechless in the face of so much talent, and we thought Lite were the perfect choice to end the festival in the best possible way.

We’re leaving Post In Paris 2024 delighted by the eclectic line-up. Once again, the team pulled out all the stops, in a new, very well-chosen venue, to offer us a selection of bands that show that the post scene in all its forms is full of nuggets worth discovering. We’d urge you to keep an eye on future editions of the festival, as well as other post music venues such as the Supersonic in Paris, which showcase a host of bands that deserve to be much more widely known. Once again, this year’s festival was perfect in every way, leaving us with a strong desire to come back again next year.
