Retour à l’Aéronef pour une nouvelle date en partenariat avec Liveeurope pour y découvrir Drahla venus tout droit d’Angleterre et Sacrificial Chanting Mood venus des Pays-Bas dans le cadre de la saison mettant en avant la scène néerlandaise, qui a déjà révélé de très belles surprises depuis septembre dernier! Nous voilà prêts pour une nouvelle soirée placée sous le signe du post punk et du rock indé.

On commence donc avec Sacrificial Chanting Mood, groupe mené par Alicia Breton Ferrer et Doortje Hiddema aka Euroboy, deux noms bien connus sur la scène indé néerlandaise. Accompagnées de leurs musiciennes et musiciens les deux artistes nous proposent un rock habité tinté de post punk qui va nous cueillir en quelques instants. « Memento Mori » et « Warm Hands » sont des titres envoutants qui nous font découvrir l’univers des néerlandais.e.s. Impossible de rester de marbre devant un set aussi réussi! En effet les guitares et le duo basse/batterie font des merveilles et nous emportent totalement. « Bright » termine de nous convaincre et nous donne envie de foncer écouter le premier EP sorti en 2022 au plus vite! Le public écoute avec attention et semble être également totalement happé par la musique des néerlandais.e.s, et ça n’est pas « Sick » qui nous fera mentir tant les applaudissements sont fournis. Le groupe nous annonce la fin du set mais nous propose la mal nommée « Underwhelming Landscapes », car il n’y a clairement rien de décevant dans la musique proposée par cette formation à clairement suivre de près. On entendra même quelques « one more song » preuve s’il en est que Sacrificial Chanting Mood ont conquis le public lillois.

On enchaine rapidement avec les anglais de Drahla prêts à nous présenter leur post punk minimaliste et leur album angeltape sorti en avril dernier. Dès « Under The Glass » on comprend vite pour quoi le groupe s’est déjà fait une solide réputation sur la scène britannique, pourtant pleine de groupes de qualité dans ce genre musical. Les guitares résonnent et Luciel Brown nous emporte avec sa voix chaude sur le titre « Form Of Luxury ». Le public commence a bien remuer au son de ce post punk aux teintes gothiques en diable. On découvre là un nouveau nom majeur du genre qui sait tirer son épingle du jeu avec un son qui lui est propre. Ce qui nous rend un peu triste c’est que le saxophone si présent sur l’album est absent sur scène, diminuant un tout petit peu l’impact des morceaux. La salle reste néanmoins conquise par ce qui déroule devant ses yeux et n’hésite pas à le faire savoir entre les titres. Le groupe déroule en nous présentant quasi intégralement son nouvel album ainsi que quelques autres titres d’une discographie déjà bien fournie. « Second Rhythm » et « Default Parody » feront clairement l’unanimité ce soir et laisseront aux musicen.ne.s l’occasion de nous montrer une fois de plus tout leur talent. On approche déjà de la fin de soirée mais il reste quelques titres dont le très bon « React/Revolt » qui donnera l’occasion au public de remuer une fois de plus. Drahla nous quittent sur « Invisible Sex » après une prestation qui les encre comme une des formations étonnantes de cette scène post punk anglaise qui ne cesse de livrer des groupes de grande qualité. On reste un peu sur notre faim avec le manque de saxophone mais on leur pardonne aisément vu la qualité de la prestation de ce soir. On vous encourage vivement à aller découvrir leurs albums et à aller les voir en live dès que possible! On quitte l’Aéronef conquis par cette nouvelle très belle soirée de découvertes musicales.

Back at L’Aéronef for another date in partnership with Liveurope to discover Drahla from England and Sacrificial Chanting Mood from the Netherlands as part of the season highlighting the Dutch scene, which has already revealed some great surprises since last September! We’re ready for another evening of post-punk and indie rock.

So we begin with Sacrificial Chanting Mood, a band led by Alicia Breton Ferrer and Doortje Hiddema aka Euroboy, two well-known names on the Dutch indie scene. Accompanied by their musicians, the two artists offer us an inhabited rock tinged with post-punk that will grab us in a matter of moments. ‘Memento Mori’ and ‘Warm Hands’ are bewitching tracks that introduce us to the world of the Dutch. It’s impossible to remain indifferent to such a successful set! The guitars and the bass/drums duo worked wonders and swept us off our feet. ‘Bright’ finishes off the set and makes us want to go and listen to their first EP, released in 2022, as soon as possible! The audience listens attentively and seems to be totally taken in by the Dutch band’s music, and ‘Sick’ doesn’t prove us wrong with the applause. The band announce the end of their set, but offer us the misnamed ‘Underwhelming Landscapes’, because there’s clearly nothing disappointing about the music offered by this band, who are clearly worth keeping an eye on. We even hear a few ‘one more songs’, proof if any were needed that Sacrificial Chanting Mood have won over the Lille crowd.

Next up are the English band Drahla, ready to present their minimalist post-punk and their angeltape album released last April. From ‘Under The Glass’ onwards, it’s clear why the band have already established a solid reputation on the British scene, which is full of quality bands in this musical genre. The guitars blare and Luciel Brown sweeps us away with his warm voice on ‘Form Of Luxury’. The crowd starts to shake to the sound of this gothic-tinged post-punk. We’ve discovered a major new name in the genre who knows how to get the best out of the game with a sound all their own. What makes us a little sad is that the saxophone, so present on the album, is absent on stage, diminishing the impact of the tracks. Nevertheless, the crowd remained enthralled by what was unfolding in front of their eyes and didn’t hesitate to let it be known between songs. The band went on to perform almost their entire new album, as well as a few other tracks from their already extensive discography. ‘Second Rhythm’ and ‘Default Parody’ will clearly be the unanimous favourites this evening, giving the musicians the chance to show off their talent once again. We’re already nearing the end of the evening, but there are still a few tracks left, including the very good ‘React/Revolt’, which will give the audience a chance to shake things up once again. Drahla left us on ‘Invisible Sex’ after a performance that established them as one of the most astonishing bands on the English post-punk scene, which never ceases to deliver top quality bands. We’re still a little disappointed by the lack of saxophone, but we can easily forgive them given the quality of tonight’s performance. We urge you to check out their albums and see them live as soon as possible! We’ll be leaving L’Aéronef delighted with another fine evening of musical discoveries.
