Ce mercredi 5 juin, direction Tourcoing pour un concert placé sur l’inclusivité au sein du Grand Mix. Au programme, les américains Mannequin Pussy et leur tout nouvel album en poche, ainsi que les britanniques de CLT DRP en ouverture de cette belle soirée.

On voit arriver le trio Punk Noise CLT DRP de Brighton avec une belle attente au vu de la qualité du dernier album sorti Nothing clever just feelings. C’est toujours avec surprise qu’on voit arriver seulement trois personnes avec l’absence de basse mais un guitariste qui un budget pedalboard illimité pour nous fournir un mur de son sur la terrasse du Grand Mix. Malgré l’omniprésence de la guitare et la forte diversité de son, c’est un groupe qui réussit à faire la part belle au chant et à la prestance scénique de la chanteuse très communicative pour cette première en France.  La formation mêle les sons noise avec un guitariste qui se transforme en DJ avec son pedalboard et une chanteuse qui vient mettre une énorme énergie n’hésitant pas à aller au contact de la foule qui a su être réceptif à cette première partie. 

Mannequin Pussy prennent la suite de la soirée. Clou du spectacle avec la formation américaine qui s’étonne d’avoir autant d’homme dans la salle (habitué à avoir un public féminin en Amérique) , croyant être dans un état progressiste mais qui élit a 30% un parti fachiste.  Venant défendre leur dernier album I Got Heaven, la formation punk nous fera passer par toutes les sensations. De la douceur voir aux paroles intimistes sur la manière de ressentir le monde aux cris révolutionnaires contre la religion , le racisme et pour le féminisme. On soulignera l’effort du groupe de laisser chanter la seule personne racisée du groupe sur la chanson parlant des maltraitances policières sur les personnes noires aux Etats Unis qu’on peut élargir au monde. On remarquera aussi que le concert semble être coupé en deux actes, le premier plutôt calme qui passe dans un deuxième acte plus punk et rageur suite au discours de Marisa sur le fait de libérer sa colère via le cri. Le public a ensuite enchaîné les pogos jusqu’à la fin du set, faisant pour cette première à Tourcoing un très bon souvenir pour le groupe. On se souviendra du passage de Mannequin Pussy à Tourcoing au vu du plaisir que le public et le groupe a pu prendre mais aussi le plaisir d’avoir des représentations queer qui fonctionne aussi bien que ces deux groupes.

Un grand merci à Vincent pour l’accréditation, au Grand Mix pour l’organisation de la soirée. Un grand merci de la part des cyclistes qui peuvent récupérer le casier gratuitement étant un des nouveaux points forts de la salle pour favoriser les déplacements verts.

This Wednesday, June 5th, we’re off to Tourcoing for an inclusive concert at the Grand Mix. On the program: American band Mannequin Pussy and their brand-new album, as well as British band CLT DRP to open the evening.

Punk Noise trio CLT DRP from Brighton arrive with high expectations, given the quality of their latest album Nothing clever just feelings. It’s always a surprise to see only three people arrive, with no bass but a guitarist with an unlimited pedalboard budget to provide us with a wall of sound on the terrace of Le Grand Mix. Despite the omnipresence of the guitar and the strong diversity of sound, this is a band that manages to give pride of place to the vocals and the stage presence of the singer, who is very communicative for this French premiere. The band mixes noise sounds with a guitarist who transforms himself into a DJ with his pedalboard, and a singer who puts on a huge amount of energy, not hesitating to make contact with the crowd, who were receptive to this opening act.

Mannequin Pussy take over the evening. The highlight of the show is the American band, who are astonished to have so many men in the room (accustomed to having a female audience in America), believing themselves to be in a progressive state, but which elects a fascist party with 30%. Coming to defend their latest album I Got Heaven, the punk outfit will take us through all the sensations. From gentle, intimate lyrics about how we feel about the world, to revolutionary cries against religion, racism and feminism. Of particular note is the band’s effort to let the only racialized member of the group sing on the song about police mistreatment of black people in the USA, which can be extended to the rest of the world. It’s also worth noting that the concert seems to be split into two acts, the first rather calm, which transitions into a more punkish, raging second act following Marisa’s speech about releasing one’s anger through shouting. The audience went on to pogo and pogo- until the end of the set, making this Tourcoing premiere a great memory for the band. Mannequin Pussy‘s visit to Tourcoing will be remembered not only for the pleasure it gave the audience and the band, but also for the pleasure of having queer performances that work as well as these two bands.
